Sheepies rescued because of this forum

I was interested in knowing how many out there have rescued dogs thanks to hearing about them on the forum.
I have Stacy to thank for Rags. Of course Ron too because this is his forum. But Stacy is the one that posted about Rags needing a home.
Thank you so much for Stacy for posting all the info about dogs needing homes and especially for helping us find our Rags :D
So here I go....
1 Sheepie rescued thanks to OES.org
Respond to this topic here on forum.oes.org
I've rescued 2 dogs by learning about them on the forum. Buddy, who we saved from being PTS and ended up with James's mom, and just recently, Bear.

Ironically, neither of them were actually sheepdogs! Buddy looks to be a Wheaten/Sheepdog mix and Bear wound up being a purebred Komondor. A rescue is a rescue though, right?
Definitely...a rescue is a rescue! :D
On a separate note, James says that he votes that the whole rescuing section be shut down on the forum because he doesn't want me getting any more ideas.
We were contacted about rescuing Lucky via the forum. So count him as 1 for the forum.
I found out about Dixie through this forum. Even though she is a foster, she is much better off than where she was!

Does she count?
Of course Dixie counts!
Interesting - my husband also would like the rescue section shut down. I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with the way I constantly look check it for any OES's that may fit in with our crew.

Jennifer, Baxter, Cassiopia and Sharkey
I had been planning on buying a puppy but then I learned about Chumley from Uncle Pete's posting and I was inspired to get her from all the success stories on this forum but mostly by Marianne's experience with Panda.
Awesome... that is 6 so far 8)
Haven't seen Colleen in a while but I think she learned about Murphy here. . .
Val,
I thought you heard about Maggie, too, through this forum. Or am I mistaken?
Okay, I didn't hear about Belle directly through this forum, but it was because of the forum that I adopted her, so she counts.

Bentley came to me in a round about way through the forum, so he counts too!
Does it count if you rescued and fostered for a while. If so I rescued Belle, but she has a new mom now. I wish I still had her!!

I was hoping she would act up, and I could have her back. But she's been a wonderful dog at her new home. Darn it....
10 including Murphy!
Lisa if Belle was rescued because of the forum... She counts!
Bosley's mom wrote:

I found Maggie because I was temporarily obsessed with browsing petfinder after I got Chumley. Then I posted her story here to see if I was completely bonkers. The support here encouraged me to get her, so maybe indirectly she counts . . .
I found Emily (MopLover) and Ian to foster Mopsy and Prissy directly from the forum.

I found Lisa (Hannah) to foster Belle in SC directly from the forum...

And several others from the forum have volunteered to do home checks -- fostering, transport and homechecks are all very valuable parts of rescue...

I need a new foster home or better yet, a permanent home for "Little Gretchen" ... Her foster dad is getting his house tented for termites, a kitchen remodel and going on a trip to Egypt.. so she needs to move on through no fault of her own. She isa very good girl. Any willing forum members?... it would be great if you could let her out during the day to potty or have a doggie door and not too many steps...

Marie
Ocala, FL
I found bogey from here. Big hugs to Beaureguard's Mom for posting him!
Well, Quincey doesn't count in the strict sense, because I found out about him directly from his foster mom, before I found the forum. But all your advice and input and encouragement and all the things I learned about the breed from browsing the forum played a BIG part in our ultimate decision to adopt him. So maybe you can add Quincey to the list with an asterisk!
This forum is where i found out about Bubba so count him in too.
Cher
Since I posted about Lucky - Sam we got because of the forum as well.

So count him too.
not this forum but found OES rescue and Kasidie now now Cinde. We fostered our BABY Fergie with a bad heart, ( you all know my babby Fergie) and now hope to have a pup soon. We also rescues Flannigan at 8 weeks old now almost 10 yrs. what a joy they all have been....

BUT I MISS FERGIE SO MUCH
she really got into my heart.
I can't believe I missed this thread..... The Lady that contacted me about having a OES that was with Babies she thought read my post about rescue and contacted me.. That turned into getting Gilly { Momma to 10 living Babies }, Linday, Julie, Miller, Joe and the 2 Older Babies that were in such Bad Shape we had to End Their Misery. So that is 17 More Saved becsue of This Forum. Now all the Babies except Little Emily { who will stay here} and Gwennie who I haven't decided on her Furever home yet. Gilly just got spayed. Miller just got neutered. Lindy and Julie are ready to go to New FUrever Homes. Joe has already been adopted....So I will be looking for FUrever home for them this week. Oh! I forgot I just got Rupert in from Little Rock. His Parents heard about us from the forum also. So that makes 18 Babies rescued and Saved and because of This Wonderful Forum. Good Work Guys.......The number just jumped!!!!!!!!!!! Sheepie Hugs, Kaye
that Kaye took in and he is a MIRACLE to our family! This forum opened the opportunity to us to bring him into our home- THANK YOU!!!!!
Although I originally posted Maggie on this Forum for the breeder who was trying to find a home for her, I ended up rescuing her. Her temporary foster home - a "friend" of the original owner - had her tied up 24/7.
Hi,

Been really busy so haven't had a chance to log on much the last couple weeks, but had to pipe up..Panda was rescued thanks to this forum.
Valerie thanks for you comments and I bet your experiences with Chumley girl inspired others to help save another. Just passing it forward!

Marianne :D
Copper our Sheepie Mix was rescued because I learned of Petfinder through the forum.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
I first heard about Fozzy on the forum. I put in an application with NEOESR and Grannie Annie contacted me. A trip up to PA to the DiPasquales, and the Fozzleman was ours.

We have had him for almost a year. He and Ben are inseparable, and every day they make me laugh.
I found this site at about the same time I found the MN OES Rescue - and Bart had a listing on this forum too. SoI guess I can claim Bart as a success story.
OOOO! Ingrid contacted me about Cody and now he is with his furever home. so count one for him. i had mailed her about wanting to help and she called not even a week later. Cody was so fun and i miss him. but i am happy he is happy :D
I would not have made the decision to rescue my sheepie without advice from this forum...count 1 more happy sheepie
Add Marcus to the list thanks to Wynette and Ingrid. Hopefully we can add the duke of earl to the list. He is safe and sound with us right now, but after a shave, shots and a neuter, he will be looking for a furever home. Keep us in your best wishes. Thank you Ingrid, Shug, Marie and the ones I missed or do not know about.
Well count Daisy, my new rescue in, thanks to Ingrid and the forum Daisy is with Ridley and I :D
I have Daphne thanks to this forum and Marie w/Dixie OES Rescue. I would be absolutely clueless w/o this forum!!! I am sure that I would still be looking for my first sheepie if I had not joined.
Beth
I rescued Berkeley because of this forum. I didn't know that Petfinder existed until someone posted about a deaf oes puppy at the MN rescue. I love her to death and now want another one!
Don't forget Murphy that I rescued and gave to Elton.
Wow such wonderful stories, would love to add one more to the count. Am looking to rescue a OES. Anyone know of one looking for a furever home?
Welcome.
Maybe try New England OES rescue they are up north. I am sure some of our Canadian friends could help you more!! Good Luck in your search. I saw your other post :D

I sent you an email......First and foremost, are you sure that an OES is the right dog for you???

Read up lots!!
We can now add Duke to the list. :go:  :high5: :excited: :cheer: . All we have left to do is get him there!
Sadie can be added though not on this forum but because of this forum! The quanity and quality of information is amazing, as is everyone's love for their Sheepie. Sadie is the love of my life (next to my husband, of course) and I don't know what we did those years without her. Sadie was rescued one year ago and has just turned two. We have an assortment of other rescues, but Sadie is definitely Top Dog!

Thanks to everyone for all your posts!
:yay: Yep we can add Duke to the list and also add to the list his soon to be big sister Maggie! As soon as Duke is here we will be able to say BOTH of our OES' are rescue dogs. Yahoo! Rescue is wonderful for both the dogs and the adoptive dog families!
On a whim I went to the pound in Ft Walton Beach, Florida to find a puppy to adopt and we found Rodney, the most handsome OES puppy. He was there with his entire family, Mom, Dad, the GF, and seven pups. They were confiscated for reasons unknown to us. My daughter talked to the Mom, and told her that we would take good care of her son, and it nearly broke my heart. We adopted him on the spot, and then started researching OES's. Not the typical way, but we have been utterly happy nonetheless! We have found him to be the most high maintenance grooming dog we have ever known or heard of, as well as the most gentle creature to our cat, and our Basset. All around, he is what makes us laugh and be happy. I found this site and posted in a different forum the story of his family, and about their confiscation. When I went to the pound to get his stitches removed from his snip-snip a week later, I tried to elicit more details about his confiscation and let slip that I had found this site and had posted a message about more OES's that they had there. They reacted with disdain, and even remarked "Oh, so YOU'RE the ONE!" Apparently due to the post I put online here at OES.org, all of his family was immedaitely snatched up, some from as far away as Baton Rouge, and Ocala. Hours of driving to get the worlds most high maintenance dogs, even here in the hot and humid South! Bless the OES pages!

Amazing! They weren't happy to have them all adopted? I hope they all found happy homes. Thanks for sharing your story. I hadn't even thought about the ripple effects to people that don't necessarily post or join. . .

I would love to see more pictures of your beautiful pup. :)
London is the pup that went to baton rouge. Glad to hear rodney is doing great!
Let's add Sadie to the list. Her previous owners posted here and I picked her up and fostered her. Her new owners (members here and owner of Winifred now at the bridge) saw her here and on the OES Rescue page and decided that since she kept popping up that they had to have her. She will be close enough to have sheepie play dates with Puddy. That is something we have never had the opportunity to do.

:clappurple: :go:  :cheer:

:clappurple: :cheer: :yay:
I would like to add Otis to the list. If he would not have been posted on the forum I would never had found him. He is worth every mile I traveled for him. (2277 miles round trip) What a sweetheart. Image
And here I thought 1700 miles round trip to get Sam was bad.
We have our Marley because of this forum. She is doing well and is happy as a lark. She has an acre of fenced in country land to play in with her dog pal. I hope everyone appreciates how wonderful this site is, Loretta
Unless I was scrolling too fast, you can add 4 more to the list. My Bubba, Annie, Tillie and Katie all found new homes because of OES.org!!!

I was directed to neoesr - Grannie Annie (placement director) by some of you. She then headed up the adoption process for each of them.

Annie now lives in Michigan, while Tillie and Katie (mom and daughter), are living in Illinois "together"!!! Last I heard the girls were all fine.
(Would love to hear more, Hint Hint)

Unfortunately, Bubba's new family had only a short time to get to know, and love him. He joined my Shadow and crossed the Bridge way too soon.

They are all HOME because of this site and those of you that offered your assistance in their (our) time of need. THANK YOU OES.org!!!

Pam
Does anyone have a tally of the current number of rescues facilitated by this forum?
Hi Fritzi,

That's one reason I wanted to leave the question out there. I have no hard numbers, no tally. As you can see there have been TONS, and MANY MANY more referrals to lots of rescue programs. I've not bothered to keep score of it or to keep track of it, just thrilled when we're able to put it all together.

Our first suggestion is nearly always to refer to rescue. If someone doesn't want to go that way (and some don't) then we help the best we can, offer the best advice we can, try to find qualified people or just act in an advisory capacity. Whatever we can do.
Add Lucy to the list. I technically saw her first on Petfinder but there was a thread on the site (Molly & Joey in IN). I credit the forum because if the shelter would have released her into rescue I wouldn't have felt the need to drive to Indiana (with a toddler no less) to meet her!! We fell in love :hearts: and the rest is history!! :D
There's no way really to count these.... but keep in mind that you have likely saved dogs that already had homes by encouraging owners to stick with it and by giving them great advice on ways to tackle problem behavior. Some people may not even post, they might just come here looking for information, and by reading previous posts and success stories, they may have felt inspired to keep trying rather than to give up and surrender their dog to a shelter.
Please add Pita to the list.

She was rescued as a puppy from Kaye Fletcher's secondchanceoes in TX.
She is the greatest dog and we laugh EVERYDAY because of her
Our favorite clowndog..
Lacy, a member-to-member placement.
:P

We have rescued two sheepies- Harry and Jewels. We have gotten so attached to them and we know they are in a much better place now. We also have another sheepie, his name is Cozmo.
Well...I got a pm from a breeder on OES.org asking if I could take Bella. She has been with us ever since...still a rescue, right?
Please add Kuzco to the list...
You are a total Rockstar Ron!!!
Since RDF hasnt posted I thought I would let everyone know that I have found a great home for my Sheepie through this forum. Lacy was rehomed with the perfect family last August and is doing great! Although me and Robert miss her so much. He still asks where she is on occassion and if he sees a commercial with a sheepie in it he calls that puppy Lacy. We are now looking at moving to a place where we can adopt and hopefully foster other sheepies in need when our lease is up.
Well, you can add us to the list! We are so happy to share with all of you that we are adopting Mini Moose from Dixie OES Rescue. As many of you may be aware, he's currently fostered with Stew in GA and has his own blog thanks to a great foster dad! http://deafmoose.blogspot.com

Mini Moose will be our 5th OES, 4th as a rescue and our 2nd deaf OES. He will become a little brother to 2 cats, 1 OES - Ralph and 3 upright children. We can't wait to get this little guy home.

If all the stars align, we will pick him up this weekend.

:yay: :hearts: :cheer:

Kristi & Family
Thanks to the forum and Nancy and Grace, Leo is here. His bowl says the dog and the housekeeper live her. And since I never had cats I was so thrilled when they greeted me each time I came home. Just like a dog. My daughter corrected that concept immediately by telling me that they were just happy the waitress was home.
Sorry that is my humor for the day
Kay
I found Cooper through the forum. Not exactly a "rescue", we got Cooper directly from his previous owner who had developed serious allergies to dogs....
Let's add Jo-Jo and Shaggy. Both listed as a link to Petfinder on OES.org. Plato, was a contact from an all breed rescue, but he will find his furever home with a member of OES.org in August. (thanks Dorothy) :D
Plato is coming to live with me on Friday. Michelle is bringing him to Phoenix finally. I am so excited. I have already bought his food and have the house all ready. MY FIRST SHEEPIE !!!!!
Glad I can finally put my rescue on here. I'll have pictures soon.
Dorothy Rego.
Please add Jasper Joe to the list.
We have Wrigley because of this forum. OH, and yes we looooooooooovvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeee him :D
Well, I see it's been a while since someone added to this. I count Rudy in this list of course. It was a suggestion from a poster here that got me in touch with Florida OES rescue, and that brought us to Rudy. So thanks so much.

Also, we came kinda sorta close to being able to help Albert (also suggested on this board) and while it didn't work out I still feel a connection to him and am glad we could at least serve as his "back up."

So, I thought I'd add our crazy goofball Rudy to this list.
I forgot to add Rudie!

Learned about him from a post by Chicagoland OES rescue, and saved him with the help of Nita and Nancy of Midwest OES rescue. Couldn't imagine life without him (ok I could.. and while it would be a lot less eventful it wouldn't be nearly as full)
Add Philo to the list.
Bella came to me as a result of this website. She was never even listed on any site but because of you guys I learned about the rescue group and contacted Madeline. Just searching about OES brought me to this sight and it has been great... all the info and making contacts for other rescues. It is really inspiring....keep up the good work :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:
I realized today (egads I'm slow) that Gilligan should be added officially to this list.

Because of this forum, he was sprung while awaiting euthanasia at a shelter. You guys came to the rescue and provided funds for his medical care and he's now safe and sound with me and the rest of the furballs.
Mine is only 1/2 OES (dad) mom was a Golden Retriever, she was rescued from a rescue that was for bully dogs. She is all shades of grey and black and was born without a tail. Mickey is now 11 months old and you would be hard pressed to see anything of mom in her except for web feet. If we can get through adolescence she will be a great dog. Thanks to all here, you have helped us get through the last 8months. I love this forum.
Lillie was rescued today because Jaci took the time to look for an OES in need and post her on this forum. Lillie will live her remaining years warm, happy, and well loved. :clappurple:
Certainly "Axel" gets added to the list...............and COUNTS :yay:

YOU can read the whole story under DOGS IN TROUBLE
but he was a complete rescue because of this forum.............(To protect Sheepies)
Looks like I never added mine to this...

From this forum: I rescued and kept both Lacy and Chap, rescued Leo who went to my friend Margo, and Max and another female who went on to foster homes in TX.
:bulb: :bulb:

Gee, guess I better add Bunny in too
I would like to add my most wonderful Summit to the list. Thanks to Jaci cross-posting from the Denver Craigslist. I never would have found him if not for that and now I can't imagine life without him. I also call him Mr. Perfect!!!!! :hearts:
There was another rescue, not necessarily from this site, but a case where some of the people involved where here......

Sir Winslow, was a 3 1/2 yr. old that had a good home till the baby came along. and after her birth, just 10 month later someone said "THE dog has to go".....
For 10 days Winslow was with me and a permanent home was found in Columbus, Ohio for him...........................

All reports have him happy, healthy, groomed and playing with his playmates in that forever home............

Another happy beginning.............. :wag: .................. :tea: I'll drink to that !
Bero is with us also because of this forum :clappurple:
We're picking up our first foster this weekend. If it wasn't for this forum we would have never gotten the idea so the forum gets the credit.
Yeah! congrats and thanks for being part of fostering!
Mats rescued us from Gentle Giants and then I joined the forum here.

Mats came to us at age 2, clipped down to nubbins.
He became a Furry Friends Pet Therapy Assistant with 100+ visits to schools, care facilities, youth group homes, and college campuses over 3 years.
All of the kids at the neighborhood park know him and give him hugs and pets.

If my wife, Jean, finds out I'm looking at this forum, I'm likely to have my internet connection severed. But maybe I can bump the adopted count by one someday.

Jean, Larry, and Mats Babb
