new puppy advice

Help! Have been offered a 4 month OES male, fell in love with him but am not sure about his care needs.... I have a 12 yr old cat, husband, no kids and we both work 8-5 M-F. Is he too young to crate, or is that ok? We are very nurturing pet parents and have the energy to exercise but I am worried about leaving him alone during the day... I might be able to get someone to come mid-day to check on him, would that help...... any advice either way is greatly appreciated!

Hi!

I am not an "expert" but a recent puppy owner and I think I can answer you. 4 months of age is not to young to be crated but crating a dog of that age from 8-5 is a problem. They physically don't have the bladder control to hold it for that long. someone coming in mid-day to let the dog out would help but I would try to see if you could get someone two times while you are working for at least a month. As the dog gets older, they will be able to hold it and it won't be a problem. And remember, after having the dog crated all day, they are going to be full of energy and need some quality time from you. A nice walk, a run in a fenced area etc. Good luck on your decision.
