Molly is a thief

Molly is my 1 year old, female OES. She is sweet and well behaved except for jumping on visitors and for the fact that she is a thief. Molly takes anything and everthing from any flat surface of the house: books off the bookcase, cell phones and glasses off night tables, forks and spoons off the dinner table, banana peels from the kitchen sink, etc. I cannot seem to stop her from doing this. She mostly steals my things, not my husband's. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

What does she do with the loot once she takes it?
My sister got into a bad habit with one of her dogs. In order to get it away she would give a treat. Now she steals things and won't let go till you trade for a treat.
Sorry I don't have any suggestions but I have to laugh! I can just picture this oes running around with the loot!
Dancer does that too, I just have to keep everything out of her reach. LOL
Stella does that too. Remote controls, glasses, everything. Whenever I see her making a quick get-a-way, like- trot out the door, I know she has something she shouldn't.
Louie does this, too. I just keep things up and away from easy reach. But for him stealing stuff is a way to get my attention. So I just ignore him and whatever he has and go over to his toy box and look like I'm having tons of fun. Eventually he drops what he has to come get one of his toys and then I just pick up whatever he stole. He now brings his toys over to get my attention to play and steals fewer of my things. Still takes my socks, though. :D
Once I realize Molly has stolen something, I tell her to give it to me and she does, after I say, "thank you". I just replaced my cell phone that had the insides coming out from chewing, she stole my mother's rosary beads and ate her shoes. It just seems to be things that belong to women. If she wasn't so cute I'd have to really be angry. I really wish I had had my gold wedding band of 30 years insured!!!
Aww

Only thing I can suggest is dont chase her it turns into a game, and try to ignore the fact shes taken it, but, more importantly play games with her toys so she knows she can play with them, hide them behind you so its not the act of looking shes not allowed, but not to take your things.. if while doing it she goes for something not hers, say "no" firmly and call her back.

Most of the time it is the small child thing, the more you react the more it will happen.. even if it is really annoying

We lost about 100ks worth of software cd/dvd's when Charlie ate a cd case of nice shiney things.....
Maybe she's part ferret. Have you found her stash?
We used to trade the dogs for things they had stolen. If they had the remote we would hold out one of their toys so that they'd drop the stolen article and take their toy. We were thinking that this was teaching them to only play with their own toys.
Oh no! Now they bring one of their toys over and put it in the place of whatever they've stolen. If you leave the remote on the couch, you'll come back to find them chewing on it but right in it's original place there'll be a ball or a stuffed animal. Someone tell them that this process does not work in reverse!!

And people say they aren't smart!
Mandy that's hilarious.
Jasper does this too, but he steals everyone's things. He has a pile in our bedroom. If the kids are missing a toy, shoe, etc.., we all know to go look in Jasper's pile and it's usually there. On the upside, he helps keep the living room tidier, because if it's in the floor, it's going to end up in his pile.
Gail, I think you owe Jasper an allowance for helping to "pick up" the living room. That is more than my grown kids do.

LOL Maxmm, I would love to see your sheepies in action. That is classic.
Sorry shouldn't laugh really - but they are total thieves !!

Everthing in my house is kept away or pushed back - I have learn't the hard way. :P
Farley is very fond of checking out the dirty clothes bin. He will steal a sock from the bin and then try to skulk away. I'll call him but he won't make eye contact. He'll just sort of freeze in his tracks and not look at me. All the while - the sock is hanging out of his mouth. He doesn't fight to give it up and I don't give him a treat - but he is awefully cute when he does this. It's like he can't control himself. He must have that smelly sock to suck on for just a little while  !

This is just like Louie! He just loves those socks-he'll even try to take them while I'm putting them on my feet :?
o MY GOSH... I THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY REALLY I THOUGHT " I KNOW I PUT THE REMOTE HERE OR I KNOW I PUT A TOWEL IN THE BATHROOM. AFTER READING THIS I WENT ON A HUNT IN MY HOUSE. OLIVE HAS A STASH UNDER MY BED, SHE IS STILL SMALL ENOUGH TO GET UNDER THERE AND I FOUND A MASSIVE PILE OF THE MISSING ITEMS. THE FUNNY PART IS SHE KINDA LOOKED AT ME AND BARKED AND SPUN IN CIRCLES. SHE SAW IT AS A GAME AND IT WAS LIKE TAG MOM YOU ARE IT. LUCKILY NOTHING WAS CHEWED UP. I WATCH HER PRETTY CLOSELY. I CAN'T EVEN FIGURE WHEN SHE HAD TIME TO GET THE STUFF UNDER THERE. SNEEKY LITTLE RASCLE. ANYWAY NOW I WILL BE EVEN MORE CAREFULL SHE EVEN HAD A SPOON AND I JUST HAVE TO LAURG AT THAT, BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW HOW SHE GOT IT.
