No ticks or fleas either. Apparently for a mosquito to become infected, the temp must CONSISTENTLY stay at a certain temp (vet can't remember exactly, but it's like 60-something). Well, even when we have hot days, it drops below freezing in the summers, so that never happens. Due to that same reason, a dog can't pass it along either (a dog that comes up to Alaska that has it). They only recommend that a dog stays on heartworm 1-2 months after getting here ...and a month before going back to the lower 48. |

| Well, that is surely something positive!! |
| I don't remember the weather getting below freezing in Anchorage the whole 3 weeks I was there in July and August...? |
| hmmm, well I know when we came up to go house hunting last summer, it definitely did. The high was 57 when we got here. I remember making fun of Mr. J because he said he was going to go running in the morning. Well.. he stepped outside and then came back in. |
| I don't give my dogs heartworm preventative either....
It's mislabeled as such really, it doesn't "prevent" anything, it just kills any they may have once a month. |
| Hmm..maybe my husband should be looking at jobs at the base in Alaska? lol It would be awesome not to worry about ticks, fleas, and heartworms. |
