Horrible Neighbors

I like to think I'm a good neighbor. I make sure Louie doesn't bark incessantly and I pick up after him outside, I don't play music really loud, etc. When I first moved in the neighbors were great. Then in the past month things have been getting bad with one of our neighbors. (I think she has a new boyfriend) But they are always outside playing loud rap music. She even lets him park behind the townhouse in the grass (something I don't understand-there are plenty of parking spaces). Then, Friday, I went outside to water my plants and found where they had slit my porch screen to run an extension cord to my outlet outside. What kind of a person does that? I am so angry. Stealing power and also Louie loves to go out there and now he can't because he can easily fit through the hole.

Where I live-they are not so quick when it comes to fixing the porch screens. But the good news is I have a grandmother who can get anyone to do anything :D .

Goodness, this has not been my weekend.

Thank you for listening to my rant. Stay tuned for the next installment on The Chaos that is Jamie's Life

I hate crappy neighbors! There's one house across the street from us that is filled with people you never see...we only hear them. We hear them rev their motorcycle engines and their loud rave music parties on Sat nights. I've called the cops twice but I don't think they know who's calling on them :D
Geez, What crappy neighbors!
I had such a bad experience with neighbors in NY.
They actually thought it was ok to park in my driveway 8O
I sympathize with you...
I cannot believe they cut your screen and were using your power 8O
Did you call anyone about this??

Yes, all that is being taken care of. I just needed to rant about it. I can't understand why they thought it was ok. I can't wrap my mind around that.
I don't get it.... Some people are really messed up.
I would be so furious
Hi,

Yikes I'm even mad at the neighbors you described Isabella. Grrrr (now I sound like the dogs) I'd be peeved if neighbors did that to me. You said the problem was fixed but I just thought I'd mention I would have taken a photo for evidence, should they keep doing stuff and you'd have a record of things they've done. Hopefully, it will be the last time they do something like that. Still can't believe their mindset they thought it was OKAY?

(takes a couple of deep breaths and calms down)

Marianne :?
Maybe make it a reclosable hole in the screen, unless you want to go through this again, and let them take their nickel's worth of electricity when you want; then you can always turn off that breaker or unscrew the fuse when you'd rather not be so generous. Perhaps that breaker controls only the outlets out there, if so, that would be really lucky, you could leave it off all the time and fix your screen. :D
A slit in your screen is a security issue, I would call the POLICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stealing power is STEALING, and against the law!!!!! I wouldn't let it go so lightly
People like that just have no respect for anyone else and also sound like they are bullies and believe themselves to be above the law - the best thing you can do with people like that is politely confront them, they never exepect it - you might be pleasantly surprised.

Hope it all works out OK

And don't forget trespassing!! Call the cops or if your are renting tell your landlord and have them call the cops. The loud music is a big violation and even has supreme court law to back that up. I'd call the cops everytime they do something even moderately annoying. Then the officers get so annoyed with those people that it'll stop nice and quickly.
I definitely wouldn't let Louie unattended even on the porch around those people. I've heard way too many bad stories where neighbors go after each other's pets.
That's outrageous!! I cannot imagine how they thought it would be "okay" to help themselves to your power.
Jamie...that is horrible! We had a neighbor that stole water...so when we moved into this house, B put a removable spigot head....Id call the police too..stealing is stealing!
Wow! 8O I can't believe the nerve of some people!! What must have been going on in their heads to make them even remotely think that that would be an okay thing to do?? Geesh!
Wow, how could they even think that was okay? I'd be furious too.
Since you're in a townhouse, do you have an association or management company? I would let me know whats going on with these neighbors.

That really sucks!
They knew it wasn't okay. Unless you're completely mentally disabled and without the ability to tell right from wrong, anyone knows that that isn't right. Even worse is that they did it simply because they felt like it and gave no thought to consequences, which I think is a major problem with society as a whole these days.

It infuriates me when people have so little respect for others that they only put their wants first with no care whatsoever as to what they're doing to satisfy those wants. It's way beyond inconsiderate. Inconsiderate is not saying thank you to someone who held the door for you or waving to someone who let you in traffic. Destruction of property and stealing electricity are crimes! That's a huge difference.

I hope those morons are prosecuted, Jamie. Getting arrested might help them understand what happens when you do something that you know is wrong.
Ummm, she has to live next door to these people.

She needs to weigh the importance of defendnig her rights to the last inch and/or exacting revenge versus the need to live peacefully next to her neighbors, and not fear reprisals and/or physical confrontation.

This is a decision that only she can make. Personally, I vote for making peace. A non confrontational mention that "somebody" may have accidentally damaged her screen while using her electric outlet and seeing where that conversation goes might be a better first step than having them dragged down to the police station.

Just my 2 cents worth.
It must be our area that has crazy neighbors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, yeah, they stole from you, electricity doesn't come cheap! Get'um Jamie!!!!!!!!
I had a neighbor that actually shot one of my aussies several years ago. I weighed the the options and chose to leave things alone, rather than prosecute. My reasoning? I still had two other dogs that were in a fence within just a few yards of the common property line. I had already lost one animal to them, and chose to take no chance with the other two. People who would do things like this, don't always think about the consequences, they just do. I am not saying I did the right thing, but I did what I felt would best protect me and my family.
Maybe there could be a way that the landlord could have 'discovered' the electricity thing. Like he was out doing routine maintenance and noticed the hole and then the tube leading to the electricity, or something like that, leaving Jamie out of it...
I did take pictures of the screen. I didn't go to the police but I did go to the Manager of my complex. They are being evicted because I am apparently not the first to have a problem with them. So in 7 days I should have no more problems.

(If Louie is out there then that means I'm in the living room so he is never left totally unattended)

You know it's funny I was more upset about the screen and Louie having the porch cut off to him than I was about the power :D.

Btw, the screen got fixed today! (Grandma gets stuff done!!)

GO GRANDMA!!!!

I agree to a certain extent Ron but if I remember correctly Jamie is living with her Grandmother.....don't remember if there is a "male" presence in the house. I would be concerned with her "safety and security" from a neighbor who would SLIT HER SCREEN to steal electricity. Call me silly but I'm not sure that is the sort of person I'd want to give a second chance to. And if they are the sourt of people who are being evicted I'd be sleeping with one eye open!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't live with my grandmother. (You might think that because she got the screen fixed asap but that's just because I'm not pushy and would have just said "Yeah, fix it when you can" :D ) Right now I'm on my own but my mother will be back with me at some point. And unless you count Louie there is no male presence. :D

The manager of the complex wrote told them that a maintenance man found the screen and cord not me. And I think the eviction has mostly to do with the noise and how messy (trash everywhere, etc.) they leave the outside of their place. It was just the screen slitting was the last straw.
Ah well, I'm at that age where I can't remember ANYTHING!!! (someone here lives with there Grandmother heheheheh  ) BUT STILL, Single woman security, GOTTA WORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stay safe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
