Any suggestions on how to find a lost dog?

My friend in New Jersey had to go to a funeral last weekend and while they were away their dog escaped and they haven't seen him since. I don't think he had any tags on him. Do you have any suggestions as to where I can go online to help her look for him? She is so distraught that I want to at least try...

The only thing I could think of is looking up the number to every vet clinic in her area. Many people bring dogs there. And then the local shelters of course. Sometimes their website is online.
look on petfinder www.petfinder.com they have a lost and found pets section in the classifieds. A lot of people know about it too.
Was he mircochipped? If so, I'd call the company he's registered with and report it there, too.
I would start by putting up flyers around the neighborhood and groceries in our area have a community bulletin board to post things like that.
Call the humane society and animal shelter and give them your information. That way if the dog is found they can contact you right away.
I would also talk to the letter carrier. They are all over the area every day and perhaps could keep an eye out.
Hope their baby makes it home safe and sound.
If there's an emergency vet clinic open on the weekend near you, check there. I took Bailey in on a Sunday once and I was amazed at how many animals were brought in because most vets and many shelters are closed on Sundays.
Those are all good ideas. I had already looked on petfinder and on the websites for the local animal shelters, but I was just trying to think of some other source that I could try from a distance. I'm sure she's doing all the stuff at home like put up fliers, etc. Poor girl, she has a lot of stuff on her plate right now, including getting married in a month, so she definitely did not need this stress right now
:( I just read the Vivi post, a greyhound expert suggests going to schools with flyers since kids always know what's going on. I hope she finds him soon.
My friend found her dog! Someone called them and said they saw him running around by a graveyard...so they drove over and spotted him. They called his name, he came over to the car door, with that look that he knew he did something wrong, licked his dad's face and hopped into the car.
One week gone...no worse for wear, just tired hungry and dirty...
YEAH!!!!
Good stuff on a Monday morning!
Oh!! What a relief!! :D :D

Hurray for happy endings!! :D :D
