how long from water to potty?

Hey all!

I'm trying to get Pip into some sort of bathroom schedule. He is AWESOME with poo- only EVER goes outside. But the potty is spotty at best (I'm such a ham) We're trying really hard to watch for his signals, but we're having 3-5 accidents a day still. I thought I could limit his water intake to scheduled times- it's not hot at all here right now, so I don't really have to worry about him overheating or dehydrating. Does anybody know how long it takes from when they ingest water, to when they have to releive themselves? Keep in mind he's 9 weeks right now, so no sphincter control yet

Kar...I would just keep taking him out in 20-30 min intervals....its hard at first, but if you do that and praise him every time he goes potty, he will get the idea of it....what about paper training....close to the back door?
Only 3 to 5? Heck, you're doing great! Lol. We had about the same with Clyde too. After a few weeks, we learned to watch him like a hawk and as soon as he looked like he was even smelling the floor, I scooped him up, took him to the back door said, outside! That cut down on the accidents immensely.
Agreed - 3-5 a day is still doing great! Take him out about 20 minutes after he has water and anytime you see the "sign". :D
Bosley peed every 20 minutes until he was 4 months old. It was awful. What we did it was to get him to pee on cue. When he went out, we said "go pee" and when he peed he got a great, little treat like chicken or a hot dog. Something really special. Then inside for playtime for 20 minutes, then back out for pee.

I know it was soooo time-consuimng, but at least we could empty him out and know when we were good for almost a half-hour. And of cource he became real good at the "fake-out pee" where he would sqat for a few seconds, nothing would come out and them he would come over for his treat. I kept sending him back for those few little drops.

When you cannot watch him put him in his crate. Period.
Phew! Here I thought I was doing something wrong!!! He is SO GOOD with #2, I was sure we had a problem! Looks like it is just typical baby puppy behavior combined with my penchant for worrying. You guys are great! I'll just keep on doing what we're doing- I think I'm gonna add treats to praise for potties too. We'll see how it goes!
You're doing a great job :)
Puppies pee basically all the time...lol... at least it seems that way.
you can try paper training,it will be very convenient to clean his poop and potty when you teached him. The puppy cannot control his potty times until six months later. and will pee many times one day. so, if he cannot pee at a settled place, then....., haha, it will be very horrible.
and my haeghe learned pee at fixed place by paper training at his 11 weeks age. so i needn't close him at dog house and can let him free all my room. but you should be very patient at the first 3-6 days.
Good luck
