ge we got fergie a normal size for a pup. it worked fine
They make one for large puppies that Clyde still plays with on occasion. It's kind of a marble blue color and it's a bit softer than the big Kong. Clyde never had any patience for putting treats in it though so it became more of a fancy ball to play fetch with!
I bought Harry a large red Kong. He also didn't like the treats in there but I put Peanut Butter in once and a while and he likes that. Sometimes he also uses it as a funky ball. Harry was six months when we brought him home though so he is a "big" puppy
I've bought kongs for various foster dogs and my own dogs over the years and I have not met a single one yet that actually wanted to chew on it.
Does anyone have a dog who really uses the kong as it is meant to be used?
Harry has chewed on it a little. But being a sheepie puppy he has, shall we say, a short attention span so chewing one object for any length of time isn't appealing. Unless of course it is something he is not supposed to be chewing.

I have the exact opposite experience. Every dog I've had and have recommended a kong too........LOVEEEEEEE IT!!! Yuki has pretty much had our maltese's kong (the smallest one) the first year. We JUST switched to her own. Well.. she hasn't received it yet. The Easter Bunny has it hidden in her Easter basket downstairs!

Yuki goes to town on it whenever we have peanut butter or cheese whiz (however you spell it) in it. She will spend an hour on one if the peanut butter is frozen. We even tear up little doggie treats and throw them in there.
The wigglebums both LOVE :hearts: their kongs!! They will play with them until all the treat (whatever is stuffed in there) is gone.
How are the meant to be used?

Barney LOVES his. It is a fairly new thing for him...but the first time he knew there were treats in there...he was in heaven. Even when there aren't treats in there he likes to carry it around (wishful thinking, maybe?) and he likes to pick it up and then drop it
I bought Pip the medium sized puppy(blue colored) kong- he loves it when I put cheese in there for him! Today we're trying a combo of cheese, peanut butter, kibbles and ice. We'll see how that goes :D
