Ribbons and Bows

So I'm planning to let Blue's hair grow and tie it up with a little ribbon. She's three and a half months old now and I was wondering how anyone else did this? Do you wait until the hair is long enough and start tying it up or do you start training it back from an early age so the dog gets used to it? I don't want it to annoy her when she's older by just springing it on her.

Another thing- should I just tie it back with one of my snag-free ponytail ties or should I get a little blue (naturally) bow for her? Don't want the neighbourhood dogs to make fun of her!

a couple months ago i started putting hair ties and clips in walters hair and he really didnt have a problem with it. i think he was thankful that he could finally see straight. the only problem was that with all the play and rough housing he kept coming untied and unclipped. so after about a week of that i gave up and gave him the cutest little bangs (if you dont go too short bangs can be really cute and they can keep the shaggy look)

i used snag free hair ties and they didnt hurt him or anything but they slipped out pretty easily, maybe if you tie a bow over the hair tie they wont come out as easily? for me the clips worked the best, they stayed in longer and he didnt seem to mind them at all.

i say go for it and if she starts pawing at it then try to gradually introduce it. and take pictures!
I am not sure if Goody hair supplies are available in your locale, but they make a LATEX elastic for braiding. The are smaller and do not slip or cut the children's/dogs hair, and they hold better than the usual ones. Here they come in black, clear, or a clear/blue spotted one. We use the clear ones, they are cheaper for some reason?

I use them in Abbi's hair when it gets long and I cannot trim and in my girls hair all the time. As long as they don't "tangle" up outside hair in them, they slip off when you pull on them or you can just cut them out easily. I put the ribbon or bows in with the plastic bands, because we find the ribbons fall out more than the bands do ...
Don't do it tight and the dog will never know it is there, unless the ribbon is too long or noticable.
They are called elastics, we have used the mini Ouchless type, as well as the Latex clear ones. Supposedly you can view them at http://www.LookinGoody.com, just do an advanced search for latex elastics or just elastics. I am sure they are marketted everywhere under some brand name or another.
