Coprophagy - when Sheepie kisses become a problem!

Some time ago Marianne posted a link to the Humane Society. Out of curiosity I visited the link and scanned the behavior topics. Low and behold a suggestion for curing a dog from eating its stool (Coprophagy). Barney gets plenty to eat, but I think he has a hollow leg. Since I welcome his kisses I was rather concerned about ways to stop the habit. Sure Cayenne pepper will do it if you're there right a way to apply it. Clean up has the same urgency problem. The Humane Society's suggestion: MSG (monosodium glutimate) which happens to be the sole ingredient in "ACCENT". I bought some and sprinkled about 1/8 tsp. on Barney's and Maggie's dog food. The next morning. Barney sniffed and walked away. Since then he has lost all interest.

It works for us. If you have the problem, try it. (PS. The Humane Society recommends you talk to your vet before using it.)

Interesting.... I thought too much msg was bad though?
You can actually buy a product called FORBID. The vets recommend it so its not like its something totally off the shelf. It used to be sold to vets only but now you can get it over the counter. I have used it before and it works great. Just sprinkle a bit on the food in the morning and slowly build up the amount you give them. It is supposed to give the stool an odd smell and taste and it is medically sound.
I looked up the ingredients for FORBID - wheat gluten and MSG - Accent is probably less expensive.
Oh sheesh I misread the post the first time George and I thought you were sprinkling the poop so the dogs wouldn't eat it..and not the food. (Makes mental note to get more rest).
