Met the locksmith today-I locked myself out of the house!!!!

Just had to WHINE A LITTLE (something I'm very good at!!!!!!!!!!!!)......... arrived home from work today to find I had locked myself out of the house. Doug is in Toronto on business and I had left my house keys on the counter. I went around to all the doors and windows but couldn't find a way in. Tasker must have thought I was nuts, he met me at every door and every wind and I could almost read his mind saying WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally called a locksmith who arrived 45 minutes later and opened my door with his tools of the trade in under 30 seconds!!!!!!!!!!! THAT doesn't say much for my security!!!!!!!!!!! I then paid the bill, $69.48 (guess that is less than replacing a broken window would have been) and he gave me his card FOR NEXT TIME

That really sucks Ginny.
I have gotten locked out of my Mom's car...while borrowing it...
Also my house quite a few times. Helps to keep a spare key. Especially if you don't have someone who lives close that you can trust witha key.
For years I kept a lock box with an extra key for the house outside.
I can't even tell you how many times I had to use it
Now we have a fake rock....lol
Even if someone got ahold of the key the would still have to get through the alarm. I would like to get another lock box.
We've talked about a "hidden key" since we moved in......guess now it's time to DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL welcome to the club of lock outs

I have a secret place out side now for the keys and one for my car too, also bought my daughters the thingie for out side for their homes for keys.
There kids were always forgetting keys or loseing them.
Oh Ginny!

Yup same goes for me...always getting locked out. Yikes hefty to break into your own house and Murphy's Law prevailed of course that Doug was out of town.

Hugs to you
Marianne
We just don't bother to lock our house doors.....or the car doors for that matter....Never did.... 8O
My husband used to lock himself out frequently  Our neighbors now have a key, and Benny installed a numbered keypad outside that uses a code to open the overhead garage door. Of course I can't remember the code

Billy installed one for us too. But it seems to eat the batteries. We replace them VERY often. It is good to have. The other night I got locked out and was able to come in through the garage. So it is a life saver.

Same here. Except for a few weeks following the drunk plumber episode, when I put dead bolts on all the doors. But after a few weeks I was back to leaving the doors unlocked. I used to leave the keys in the door all the time--so I figure there's not much of a difference :)
i'm glad you finally got in!!!

when i first moved here (AK), i got locked out and when the locksmith let me in... I too thought "well, i sure feel secure" when he explained to me how easy it is to get in our house due to the kind of lock we have.
If you know how, a credit card works on a lot of locks, but I miss the old days when the police would come and unlock your car for you.
You must not have a dead bolt. You would have needed the key to lock it. That's a drag, sorry that happened to you. And I know you needed that $69.00 for the Sheepie Auction. :D

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!
Last fall we went away for the week-end, and our daughter came home from school to care for Drezzie. We have the kind of door knob where you can lock it from the inside but still are able to open the door to go out. Of course, once outside, the door is locked.

Well, she went out about midnight to get a school book from her car, never thinking about the door locking behind her. 8O We do have a key hidden but she claims it didn't work. So she called my FIL (at midnight, and he's 83 yrs old!!) (and luckily she had her cell phone in her pocket!) to see if he had a key (even though he lives 15 miles away). 8O 8O He didn't, and told her to go to the back door and break the window on the door! Thermal, double-paned safety window! 8O 8O 8O Has grid supports on both sides that makes the window look like 9 square sections. He told her to take a brick and break the window. 8O :? 8O :? Took her a few tries, but she did shatter it. Then she had to punch out enough of the bottom square so she could get her arm in to open the door. Geesh!!

The whole window shattered but stayed in place because of the grids. When we got home and Dale took the inside grid off, the whole thing just crashed down into about a million pieces. Luckily, when she got inside, she swept up all that had fallen and blockaded the dining room off so Drez wouldn't accidentally walk in any pieces she might have missed.

We have 2 back doors. Sarah tried the hidden key on the wrong door! So now we have 2 keys hidden, one for each door. So much for the relaxing week-end getaway! Just glad neither Sarah nor Drez were hurt.

EEEEK!!!!!!!!!! Makes you wonder why we even bother to LOCK doors. It appears that anyone can learn to pick a lock in seconds and the only ones it keeps out are the HOMEOWNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
uh oh...chris....thats bad....lol, that would be something that I would do though......

and ginny at least you didnt have your legs sticking out of the window like marianne did..... 8O
That's an expensive spare key, huh Ginny?

I can't even remember how many times I've locked myself out. I've had to call locksmiths for my car soooo many times. ***heeheehee*** for awhile I dated one*** came in handy :D
Makes me wonder if you can get "Onstar" for your house!!!!!!!!!!!
Been there. Except I lost the keys to the front gate. I considered climbing the fence but at my age and weight, not a prospect. Even went and bought a ladder, but couldn't screw up the courage. Called the locksmith. Dogs wondering what I was doing too.
Susan, that's hilarious! You actually went and bought a ladder to climb the fence?? So creative!!
Susan .. did you take the ladder back?
Nope, still have the ladder. Nice in between size between step ladder and big honkers.
