WHY DOES MY OES BARK AT ME WHEN I SIT TO WATCH T.V ?

HI ALL. I NEED SOME HELP PLEASE.
I DON'T GET TO SIT AND WATCH T.V VERY MUCH, BUT WHEN I DO BROOKLYN (MY OES) WILL STAND IN FRONT OF ME AND BARK FOR AS LONG AS IT TAKES FOR ME TO GET UP AND LEAVE DUE TO A HEADACH!
I HAVE IGNORED HER,YELLED IN A FIRM VOICE "NO", EVEN SPOKE NICELY TO HER AND TRIED TO GET HER TO STOP. BUT NO LUCK.
MY HUSBAND THINKS IT IS BECAUSE IT IS HER SPOT! MY HUSBAND IS A BIG FOOTBALL FAN(STEELERS),AND DURING THE NFL SEASON HE WOULD SIT ON THE COUCH WITH HER AND THEY WOULD WATCH ALL THE GAMES TOGETHER.
NOW THAT THE SEASON IS OVER I WILL SIT DOWN A WATCH SOME TV ON THE COUCH.
COULD HE BE RIGHT? DOES SHE NOT WANT ME TO TAKE HER SPOT?
I WILL SAY SHE IS DADDYS LITTLE GIRL. HE SPOILS HER.
PLEASE HELP. I DON'T WANT TO PUT HER IN HER KENNEL JUST SO I CAN SIT AND WATCH SOME T.V.
THANKS.....................

lol. 'Cause that's what OES do!

Have you tried petting her? Barney will head butt me continuously while I watch tv unless I am touching him...
If you invite her to sit on the couch with you, does she still bark at you?
Bosley and Dixie BOTH climb up on laps to block the TV. Then it is a josling competetion to see who can shove who off. Sometimes the human loses
Could you get her to sit with you on the couch the way your husband does? That way she could watch tv with you the way she watches football with your husband. Maybe use a treat to entice this new behavior until it becomes routine for her?

 That is too funny! You have asked my very question...........Benjamin does the same thing to me, although he is my pup through and through.

I haven't the slightest idea why they do this but, I have found that if I ignore him (do not look at him) he will stop but , if I look at him he will continue!

I think it is kinda funny but my Hubby tends to get annoyed! :P So, if Hubby gets annoyed, I'll look at Ben!
I would get her her own TV. Preferably flat screen.

Or maybe she is a Jerome Bettis fan and sad he retired. If that is the case she can get her "Bus" fix on NBC's NFL broadcasts in the Fall. He will be one of the studio hosts.
Great plan, El Gato! :D

I should do that for myself. I can barely see the TV with two wigglebums in my lap.
LOL El Gato!
Is she getting enough exercise? If this is an ongoing problem, it could be that she's trying to get your attention because she's bored. A tired dog is a quiet dog. I take mine to doggy day care on Wednesdays just to ensure that they will be silent during Lost!
Maybe you and she have different tastes in programming :) If she's a sports fan the NCAA tournament starts this week....

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE FAST REPLIES.
CAN YOU TELL THIS IS MY FIRST OES?

I HAVE HAD GREAT DANES ALL MY LIFE. TOTALLY DEFERENT BREED.

I LOVE THIS BREED, JUST NEED SOME HELP FIGURING THEM OUT.
THIS HAS TO BE THE FUNNIEST DOG I HAVE EVER HAD.
I WOULD NOT TRADE HER FOR THE WORLD!

I WILL TRY ALL THE SUGGESTIONS I HAVE NOT TRIED YET (EXCEPT FOR THE BIGGER T.V.... THIS ONE IS ALREADY 61 INCHES....LOL )

I WILL GET HER SOME EXTRA EXERCISE ALSO BEFORE WE SIT DOWN TO WATCH T.V.

I THANK EVERY ONE FOR THE FEED BACK ,BUT MOST OF ALL I AM SO GLAD TO KNOW I AM NOT ALONE,AND THAT THIS IS NORMAL FOR THESE NUTTY DOGS...........LOL[/quote][/b]
You are not alone and your hunch (or your husband's) was probably right on the mark. MO has her own chair and when friends drop by, Bob sits in MO's chair. She stands on the foot stool and barks at him then crawls onto his lap to lick him to death. He thinks it is because she "loves" him. She probably does now, originally it was he took her chair!

So scoot over, pat the couch and invite her on up. Under no circumstances give in and get on the floor! That way the dog has taken control over you.........not a good idea.
THANKS SheepieBoss......

I WILL NOT GIVE IN.

I WILL TRY TONIGHT TO SHARE MY SEAT WITH HER.I LOVE TO WATCH AMERICAN IDOL SO THIS IS MY TIME TO SIT IN FRONT OF THE T.V .

SHE IS SO FUNNY SHE WATCHES THE SINGERS SHE SEAMS TO LIKE ,BUT THE ONES SHE DON'T LIKE SHE WALKS AWAY AND STOPS WATCHING.

BUT MAYBE IT IS THE HUSBANDS NAME SINCE MY HUSBAND IS NAMED BOB ALSO! :D ...LOL

THANKS AGAIN.... :D :D :D
If she sits beside you and is annoying during your show just take out the brush and start to use it. She quickly find something else to do
NO WAY will taking out the brush get Daisy off the couch. She comes running when I open up the drawer I keep it in (she will chew on the handle if I leave it out) and plop herself down whereever I am. But it is one way to keep her quiet while I try to watch TV, just keep brushing or petting
Bosley's mom...I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT....GREAT IDEA..
BROOKLYN HATES TO BE BRUSHED.....SHE WILL RUN TO THE NEXT TOWN!

WE WATCHED TV LAST NITE AND IT DID GO BETTER. I DID NOT GIVE IN AND HAD HER COME SIT NEXT TO "ME" . I KEPT PETTING HER AND TELLING HER SHE WAS A GOOD GIRL.

THE FUNNY THING WAS SHE JUMPED UP AND GOT IN FRONT OF MY HUSBAND AND STARTED TO BARK AT HIM.

IT DID NOT LAST LONG MY HUSBAND PICKED HER UP AND CUDDLED HER IN HIS ARMS LIKE SHE WAS A BABY...(A LITTLE SPOILED)...

WELL THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE :D ...................... BANDAA
