When does long coat come in fully?

At 5 months, Saffy's adult coat is growing in and is now about 3 inches. When will it max out?
Thanks,
Aurelie

What do you mean by max out??? I believe it will continue to grow if you let it..........I personally cant handle the hair when it gets beyond 3''...shave time! :D
I meant when will she look like a grown up sheepie with that massive coat of fluffy hair.
Um, I think Panda was close to 9-10 months before you really saw the change from puppy coat to full adult coat...
It kind of creeps up on you. Bosley is 11 months old and his coat is about 9 - 10 inches long. It is out of control, and looks awful. We try to brush him and keep on top of it but the mats just show up overnight!

Now with Dixie we LOVE the shorter coat, so in 4 or 5 weeks Bosley is getting his done. I can't wait. 8O
A showdog might have about 12 inches, I think.
Clyde is almost 18 months and he's over 12 inches and, in some places, longer. Some places are a little shorter too since we had to remove some matts when he was younger. Some day we'll clip him down and even him out but, honestly, at that length, you can't even tell!
NO WAY! (He says like an excited Valley Girl) 8O Clyde has more than 12 inches of hair? 8O

That would be awesome! But I saw the December pics, and he doesn't look like 10 inches there! Maybe I need to have my eyes examined!

How are you measuring?
Sky has 8 or 9 inches of coat in most areas, and she was shaved down in June I think.
I think Carl's dog Punk had super super long coat but I don't remember how long exactly.
O.K. I am totaly confused.
By nine months Mojo's longest fur was about 9-10 inches. Then in December at 11 months, he started losing the fur around his shoulders. Over the last few months it is progressing up his head and down his back and body. The new shorter fur that is coming in is different in texture. Not as soft as the puppy fur.
I assumed this was "blowing his puppy coat" and the adult coat coming in. Does this sound normal or is something wrong?
He looks really funny being half poofy and half not. The new coming in looks healthy and so does the skin.

Hey, are you callin' me a liar? Lol. No, like I said, the length varies thanks to some matt trimming and coat blowing but down his back, high on his sides and his chest, he's 12 inches long. I measured with a sewing tape since I don't have an official Old Engish Sheepdog length detector. ;) Seriously though, is there another technique that's used or a different way I should measure?

Like Angel said, he's recently blown parts of his coat so, lower on his sides, he's a bit shorter there too. And I shave his belly because he pees all over himself! 8O Just playing with his fur yesterday I found a crazy long piece on his chest that measured 14 inches from root to tip! I just trimmed 3 inches off the top of his head and, from root to tip there, his hair is still 10 inches long. The hair on his head grows crazy fast.

Ultimately, though, he doesn't look super poofy either because I strip all his undercoat out. His coat lies a lot closer to his body. I was surprised when I measured him that he was that long because it didn't seem that long to me either!
Wow.

That's all I can say!

You are right Ron!!!
Harry has 42cm. long that is about 16,8 inches and his coat is to long
Yep brie is the same as Harry big chop before the end of April when we start showing again. Too much coat at the moment.
As I recall from someplace in this vast forum it was stated that they loose coats several times in the first couple of years before they final coat comes in. Maybe someone can find this - I suspect it may have been in one of Carl's posts.
Ok, I've been lured into this thread! (Like that took a whole lot eh!)

Since Willowsprite mentioned that she remembered that my late but still beloved Punk :hearts: had super super long hair I figured I'd post this shot of him in his "full glory" at about 4 years of age.

Punk's hair is even longer than Martin's whose photos last year seemed to have impressed a few people :high5: . Punk was never shown so he was never clipped and shaped for show. Thus his hair got to grow to it's natural maximum length - sort of! I had to trim him in places to keep his hair from dragging on the ground, the hair from his elbows reached the ground so that got trimmed, his "overalls" reached the ground so they got trimmed as well as did his hocks and stifle (knee) hair so it wouldn't drag on the ground and it was at the point that his chest hair was barely an inch off the ground so that was the next trimming "candidate". And yes I did trim his sideburns and beard to keep the dribble and food mess to a minimum - I had to, mom hated him having any smell in his beard!

So how long was his hair? Well his ears were feathered to well over 12", areas of his chest reached a length of 15" and some areas of his shoulders, hips and back hair got up to 18" long. At these lengths it seemed like brush strokes never ended  They just went on and on until my arm was almost fully extended - and a tuxedo salesman once said I had arms like a gorilla  .

Anyway, just a little brag about a very special son and his coat.

Thanks and Cheers

Carl
Great picture of Punk! It looks like he has puddles of hair around him!
What a beautiful coat! Punk was a very handsome dog, Carl. Thanks for posting this picture. I've never seen an OES with hair this long.
Wow, Carl. Wow.
Wow is right...Punk is beautiful....
If you hadn't trimmed the face, I'd really have to wonder if there was really a dog in there somewhere!
Wow! Well, I certainly got the answer to my question complete with a beautiful photo and I thank each of you for responding.

Aurelie
Wow Punk is just gorgeous...the hair looks so silky too. I can't seem to get Remy back by her rear to grow nicely. It just looks matted even tho it isn't.
