Panda the "No way am I going out there" guard dog.

Well, at 4 am this morning, I awaken to pounding....open my eyes, pounding? Pounding???? Brian is at work, so I feel safe with the alarm set and Panda the guard dog sleeping by my side....I jump out of bed, throw my robe on...and go to peer out the kitchen window...crap, forgot my glasses...race back to the bedroom, put the glasses on, and race back to the kitchen....the noise is coming from the alley on the side of our house...wiggle butt is nudging me so I let her out into the yard...she ran the legnth of the fence once, barked once, and peed...then she hears the noise again and instead of running past me (im standing in the open doorway) she races between my legs, gets hung up in my robe and hitails it back to the bedroom...I call 911, I hear yelling and a car take off...the cops are of course a day late and a dollar short...just missed them...I meet them in the alley and there is nothing...weird...I dont have any idea what they were doing....I just have tire skid marks on part of the alley and part of my driveway??!!! I had a hard time falling back asleep, but Panda did not....I have found my second pet peeve...Brian when he snores and now Panda when she does........

Here's what I've found with Bailey: he's a great watch dog when he's awake. But he'll never be a guard dog!

Darcy, you made my heart stop. Next time, please call the cops before you turn off the alarm and open the door. Did your motion lights go on? I would have thought that would scare people off.
How scary! Yes, next time please call the cops first!
The motion lights went off when they drove away...but not before...they were not close enought to the garage at that point, just on the other side of the fence by my side kitchen door....I know, I know...I didnt follow anything that I should have....curiosity won out over survival instincts...I just kept thinking that they were chopping up a body parts and throwing them in the trash cans......over active imagination...and too many horror movies.......
8O SCARY!!!!! Glad you're ok!!!!

At least Panda barked once

Looks like I'll have to rely on the neighbors Akita to scare away the bad guys

I agree with that!!!!!!!
Yup! If I thought someone was chopping up body parts and throwing them in trash cans, I'd be outside by myself in a heartbeat! Yup Yup!
Glad it was nothing... sort of.
Hey I didnt say I was too smart at 4 am.....and if it makes any of us feel any better, once I thought about it, I did lock and reset the alarm..then call the police 8O
SCARY!
But at least Panda knew it was safer inside!
At least you know you can rely on Panda next time too! ;)

Unfortunately all you have to do is watch the news to see stories like this, no horror movies needed. I'm glad you're safe and that the police showed up eventually! Note to Brian: more motion lights...
Sue from the Checker auto parts next door just gave me a paper....about what you should do in an event...

1. elbow is the strongest point on your body, if you are close enough, use it

2. if a robber asks for your wallet..do NOT hand it to them...throw it from you...the robber will more than lilkely go after it...run like mad in the other direction.

3. if you are ever thrown in a trunk of a car, kick out the back tail light and stick your arm out of the hole and wave like crazy..the driver wont see you but others will

4. if someone is in the car with you...do NOT drive off....instead gun the engine and speed into anything..your air bag will save you..as soon as the car crashes bail out and run

5. if you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger side. most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans.

6. if the predator has a gun and you are not under his control...RUN...the preditor will only hit you( a running target) 4 in 100 times and even then it most likely will not be a vital organ...run in a zig zag pattern

7. as women, we are always trying to be sympathetic...STOP...it may get you raped or killed...look at ted bundy...good looking, well educated, who always played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women.....he walked with a cane or a limp and asked for help...

This one scares me...not quite the same but close enough to hit its target.

8. a woman heard a baby crying on her front porch, she called the police because it was late and just weird...the police told her NOT to open the door...the police told her that they think a serial killer was using a tape recording of a baby's cry to lure women outside...there have been several calls by woman who have reported hearing a baby crying outside their door late at night when they are home alone.....

Okay ...I am freaked out enough now, I had forgotten about home invasions......I am back on alert....
Glad you're okay, Darcy! I'm thinking next time you should listen to Panda and stay inside!!

I know it's hard to think straight at times like that, though. The first time my house was robbed, when I came home and found it completely tossed upside down, did I stay out and go to a phone to call the police? Nooooo...I went throughly searching through the house to see what, if anything, was left. Never even crossed my mind that they might still be there...armed & dangerous... :x
)A couple of years ago, while at work, I got a phone call from the police to come home immediately.

A guy rang the doorbell of my neighbor across the street. She was at home (works nights). She thought his reason for ringing the doorbell was strange, so she watched him. He walked over to our house, rang the bell and walked around back. She called the police.
In just the few minutes it took the police to arrive, he had broken into the house (the kids forgot to set the alarm  ), had time to check the upstairs bedrooms (pulling out the hockey jerseys of my sons), emptied all of my daughter's dresser drawers onto the floor and grabbed my prescripton drugs out of our bathroom (allergies must have been horrible). He was tackled to the floor in our bedroom. They emptied his pockets on our bed - my meds, some gold coins of my husbands, a twenty and credit card that had just arrived. The twenty turned out to be his - he didn't think we would own up to it, but we did. The guy ended up in jail. We sent flowers to our neighbor.

Both Ben and Bailey were crated as this was not long after his second surg3eery for eating the nonedible. They were my first concern when I arrived home. I will never know if the guy even knew they were there (he was high and didn't come down for 3 dsays). But both dogs have been more vocal when they hear a strange noise.
Darcy- I am so glad you are OK! How scary for you. Put a post it next to your bed - Pounding sound= call police! That way you won't even have to think
Scary thing Darcy, glad everything stayed safe. One never knows if it's teenage pranksters...spray painting up things, or as you said body dumping??? 8O

Those are good points you listed too, I have more from watching tv, Oprah and CSI...

1. If you are abducted and taken away somewhere...don't panic, but try and leave as many hairs, or something that leaves proof you were there...spit, blood, hair, nails, marks etc...so forensics can prosecute.

2. Try and pay attention to where you are, so you call for help, and get out of there.

3. Make them feel something, get personal...ask questions, tell them about kids,...less likely to kill you...I think??
EEK!! How scarey! Maybe you need to get a guard dog to protect you and Panda
Glad to hear that you are safe and Panda didn't loose any beauty sleep!
I'm glad you're safe!!! I agree with calling the police first next time, and I also liked the guard dog suggestion for you and Panda!!
would another sheepie do the trick???? 8O
Panda boy says he would have protected Panda girl and you Darcy.

He did his imitation of the Tansmanian Devil when my son yelled at him for going in his room and stealing his McDonalds food a few days ago.

Marianne and the boys
Wow Darcy, scary!

I agree with others, if it ever happens again, cops first, curiosity later!
I'm not even gonna bother with the cliche about the cat....

Seriously, I'm glad you're ok.
Woooo definately call police first. 8O

I had quite a few years ago a knock at the front door, yep home alone!!
Well first time ever my peppa went charging to the door before me and before I got to the door to open it she started growling. Amazed me as she has never done that before in all the 12 years that I had her at that time. We have a security door, so opened the main door and pep amazed me again, curled the lips up, showed her teeth and growled the whole time. The bloke at the door said something, I don't know what he said,I just stood there stunned at pep. Just told him to go away, he asked if the dog would bite!! I said yes she will probably rip you to pieces if I open the door, then slammed the main door shut.

I think she for the first time in her life sensed something not quite right, she sat at the front door for the rest of the afternoon, guarding it. 8O

I do believe if anything was bad for you darcy, panda would of been there to defend you as I believe they have a great 6th sense and are protective of the ones that they love. That incident still amazes me and it only ever happened that one time 8O

I think that sounds like a FINE IDEA
Oh my goodness, Darcy! I'm so glad you and Panda are okay!!
I'm so glad you are OK. Panda's too funny. She just probably wanted you to close the door so you'd be safe.

You're going to laugh but, if I hear a noise the LAST thing I would do is let my dogs outside. I wouldn't want anyone to harm them. Also, when they hear something they sound so loud and vicious that anyone on the outside would think they are a pack of snarling vicious dogs. HAHA. I do know that they would protect me for sure. But I'd probably give my life for theirs without a thought.
Well, that was kinda my thought...panda has such a big girl bark, I thought that she might scare them away....I would also do anything to protect my dog, but I just thought her big woof woof would do the trick...who knew that she would lose her voice in a real situation...lol
Was away from the forum for the week-end, so am just catching up to thisl

Wow, Darcy, how scary! SO glad you and Panda are okay, but NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!!! What did Brian do when you told him?

Chris
he yelled at me
Did you ever find out who it was? It was probably some drunk guy.

Many years ago my sister was not discerning about who she dated and a similiar experience happened to me. Some guy was banging on our front door and screaming something. My sis & dad were away so I called the police. Seemed like it took forever for them to get here, but it was like a minute in real time, and it turned out it was a ex boyfriend of my sister's that was completely tanked.
No never figured it out.....I dont think I want to....Just dont want it to happen again!
