I realized that Pisco doesn`t have the same hair as Ruffus (another OES around here) Pisco`s is silkier and softer than Ruffus who has thicker and not so silky. And I am wondering if that is normal...or it is because Pisco is still a puppy at 10 month and Ruffus(2 1/2 yrs) is an adult....I also read that the kind of hair Pisco has is not desirable in OES? is that so? |

I am not sure if Pisco has his adult or puppy coat still. There is nothing wrong with a soft coated OES except in the judging ring.
Here are the guidelines that they judge OES's in the show ring: http://www.cruiserdog.com/judgel/ Here is a description exerpt from that about the coat. Coat--Profuse, but not so excessive as to give the impression of the dog being overly fat, and of a good hard texture; not straight, but shaggy and free from curl. Quality and texture of coat to be considered above mere profuseness. Softness or flatness of coat to be considered a fault. The undercoat is a waterproof pile when not removed by grooming or season. |
Hello Vero,
When I read your post it said Pisco was 10 months old so I went over to the Sheepie survey side. I thought it is so neat that my Jack and your Pisco our only a few days apart in birthdays. Jack is April 18, so their only 1 week apart. Jack has the courser hair most of the way up his back and around his shoulder blades where it is still changing is his soft puppy hair. Annabelle only has a small amount of course hair closer to her rump and a lot of soft puppy hair still left. Her hair seems to be going through major changes that Jack's did not go through. I am guessing every sheepie is different. I think they go through another change of coat at 18mos, but I am not really sure. Your Pisco is beautiful. Stormi ![]() |
Stormi....by your description of Jack`s and Annabelle`s coat Pisco is more similar to Jack`s but by your description the difference is that Pisco`s coat is silky almost all except from his hind quarters down including his rump area....
One more ?...does Jack has a full long coat or is he still a bit on the"puppy cut"ยท I ask this because Pisco`s hair changes a lot in colors and textures and it has gotten longer but he still seems on a puppy cut (see my avatar)...I haven`t cut his hair at all except around the face (but that was an accident...was cut without my permition)...just wondering ..... ![]() |
Hello Vero,
I am not sure I can describe Jacks texture of his coat very well.....it seems very coarse and fluffy until it gets to his shawl. Then it gets silky and it lays against his body more. Does that make sense, because it doesn't to me....LOL ![]() |
Hi Stormi,
Yes by your description...Pisco is a lot like Annabelle...he keeps changing his hair all the time...he now has more dark hair on his back, but still very light grey on the rest of him.It has gotten longer as time passes but still not so long as Ruffus. Today I took him to the park and Ruffus was there...they played a lot...but in the end Pisco looked like an used mop ![]() How old were jack and Annabelle when you got them?...I ask this because when I got Pisco at 10 weeks he was very back and white although he was fluffy....by the Pictures I`ve seen of Dougal and Drake they seem fluffier than Pisco was at that age. |
Stormi....
how much does Jack and Annabelle weight? |
Jack at this date weighs 80 lbs. He was over 90, but when we switched his food from Purina one to Iams both for large breed, he lost some weight. Annabelle is 60 lbs and continues getting larger. Jack can play and continue looking very fluffy and all it takes is a good brushing and he looks great again. Annabelle gets wavy hair, but not curly and it seems to stay hung close to her body. We got Jack in June at 7 weeks and Annabelle in August at also 7 weeks. We got Jack potty trained and he was very well mannered and we had heard that another puppy will usually follow what the other dog does. I kept comparing the fur of Jack and Annabelle and she has never caught up with him yet, but here lately it has been getting a lot more fluffy, but it just isn't long yet. I think that it will eventually get there, but I am not certain. I think she will end up having a very light coat color and Jack will be a lot darker, but again this is just me guessing. One other thing that was a big difference between them is Jack's nose was almost all pink when we got him and has very slowly went most of the way black, but there is still a little line on one side of his nose of pink. Annabelle came to us with a completely black nose. Did Pisco have any pink on his nose? I think that Pisco and Annabelle will continue changing their hair for awhile longer. I wonder if that means Jack will change his hair later on when he gets older? They are so beautiful the way they are anyway ![]() ![]() ![]() I would love to hear others give some insight at what age your sheepie changed color/coat. |
I couldn`t get the quote thing to work but.....
"Annabelle get wavy hair, but not curly and it seems to stay hung close to her body" that is Pisco all right but belive it he weight closer to Annabelle`s than Jack`s weight ![]() I am not sure how tall he is but he is taller than Ruffus so I guess he`s ok that way at least. |
