yeast infection in ear

Sarah has a really bad yeast infection in her ear, the vet says that it may be a sign of allergies. She's on a medicine called Tri-Otic Ointment and has to go back in a week. I just want my regular puppy back, she won't even eat carrots! If anyone has any information about this it would be super helpful.
Thanks in advance

Hi- make sure to keep the hair in her ear canal plucked, this will help you keep the number of ear infections way down. as for food allergies, I'm not sure, did you ask your vet if there was a way to check for what she might be allergic to? Many dogs are allergic to the filler ingrediants in cheaper dog foods (like wheat allergies for instance).
My brie suffers from yeast infections in the ears too, we have not worked out yet weather it is from pollens or food. This was discussed in another thread so have a read through it, as it might help you. The posting that Jackjc did is very interesting as it takes you to a link for a home made ear cleaning remedy to help control the yeast infection. I am going to try that too as the drops she is on is very expensive and she breaks out in the ears on a regular basis, maybe due to hormones or allergies.

Hope she gets better soon!
That blue power ear treatment recipe looks like it would work great, but it does say the gentian violet will stain clothing, hair etc.... so how would you prevent it from making a mess of the dogs coat?
Willowsprite,

I posted under the thread "ear gook ". I have never had a problem with the solution staining the coat. I use a syringe to administer it into the ear. Anything that runs out of the ear comes right off with soap and water. I usually clean my dogs ears every two weeks with the solution right before I give them a bath. I have never had a stain problem on Fred's coat and he is a white headed OES.
Good advice Jack - thanks!

I've had good results too in regards to feeding my dogs natural yogurt, a bit over their food helps prevent yeast infections. If you can try to allow air to circulate in the ears...meaning whenever possible if they are laying down..flip the ear up. Yeast accumulates in moist conditions and dogs with floppy ears unlike upright ears are prone to more yeast infections.

Best wishes to you
