Who has the best fast-food french fries?

I used to LOVE McDonald's fries, but now they seem too thin and they're almost never mealy, and are either tough or.... well, they're just not the same.

I never thought that Burger King fires were as good as McDonald's, and then they came out with their "stealth fires" which have a special coating designed to increase their holding time and retain their heat a little longer. They were a little bit better, but still not very good.

I am enjoying Wendy's fires now. They are much thicker, more like an independent restaurant would serve. So they aren't bad.

But the best "fries" I've had lately is when Joan brought home some "potato wedges" from KFC. They have a nice french-fry outer and a nice soft and hot inside. Yum.

What do the rest of you think?

If you want me to add another chain to the poll, let me know BEFORE you vote.

I cannot stand KFC chicken, but I do like their fries and coleslaw. LOL
I do like those KFC wedge fries... we call them JoJos up here in MN (although KFC doesn't)... But then I prefer a fry with more substance, and I never eat at MCDonalds or Burger King... Culvers fries aren't bad either for a more typical fast food fry.
Ron, I'm surprised you've heard of In n Out...Those I think are the best on this list...
BUT Jack in the Box fries beat all of these. And, they are crispy enough to withstand dipping into the milkshake...
I love in and out double double with cheese but I think their fries are horrible....too natural.....and not cooked long enough...I go for mcdonalds or whatabuger...
My FAVORITE fries come frome Wings Stop. I hate their wings, but their fries are OUT OF THIS WORLD ...and go well with their special ranch sauce.

But, our of the common fast foods, I'd have to say Wendy's ...for the same reasons as Ron. I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEE McDonald's fries, but I can only handle so much salt. I hate all other fast food fries. They're either soggy, dry, could use some salt, or not crispy ENOUGH for me. I'd like Chick-Fil-a fries if they weren't always soggy to me.
You can order the fries without salt at McDonald's.
the salt is the best part....finger lickin'...just like a salt lick......
wedges just aren't fries. I love McDonalds and haven't noticed a drop off in quality. Every once in a while, you get a bad set but mostly they are as good as I remember. I like BK fries allright.
I love Burger King & Hardees (owned by Carl Jr's). The guys that own Hardees & Carl Jr's are my husband's great-uncles. I guess I should vote them just for family reasons. :)
I voted for In-N-Out.
I grew up on McDonald's, but I love the freshly sliced In-N-Out fries.
My Uncle from NJ was shocked when he saw them putting the fresh potatoes through the slicing machine as they were ordered.
Darcy & Steph have you ever had In-N-Out's Animal Fries?
Now that is some good stuff....it's on their secret menu.
Darcy all you have to do is add a little salt to the fries and they are perfect!!

As for Fast Food french fires, I am not too familiar with that Ron.
Sorry, I HAD to point that out and be a wise guy :D
Elissa what are Animal fries at In n Out???never heard of them...but I do like the double double protein style :D
Here we don't have some of those choices on the list.

My pet peeve with McDonalds, cold as soon as you get them...I only like them fresh.

Wendy's, too bland.

KFC is my fav on the list, if I could have them in gravy, plain not so much.

Currently our local skating rink makes a good dish of fries.

Oh, I forgot about the Arby's curly fries - those are my favs! lol We ate there last night, and it reminded me of how much I love them.

Darcy,
They are to die for. We had never heard of them until we moved to the desert and our neighbor told us about them.
They are an order of fries topped with grilled onions, cheese and Thousand Island Dressing. They are sooooo Yummy!!!
oohhhh I have to try those.....so much for low carbs...
Arbys curly fries with cheesee are good, but I like home made ones

MINE lol
hmmmm, the spicy curly fries.....They are good, but aren't they kind of in the same category as wedges and tater tots? I mean they're potatoes, they're fried, but they're not exactly french fry shaped.

Oh the debate will rage on for years...
My faves are not on the list. Steak 'N Shake. Might be just a Midwest chain. They are shoestring fries--really thin, hot, greezy and salty. A perfect side with a double cheeseburger and eggnog/chocolate shake (available only at Christmas). YUM!
I have recently banned eating out, but McDonald's fries (ask for them fresh) with salt and a ice cream.....my oldest son tought me to dunk the fries in the cream...ummmmmmmmm!!!
McDonald's all the way, for fast food fries.
But when we feel like dining out it has to be New York fries.
Ralley's! Oh

or a place called Garfeilds ( they have waffle fries covered in cheese)

Mmm...Garfields waffle fries are yummy!
We like Chik-Fil-A's waffle fries....
ARBY'S curly fries - hands down!
Chic-filet has the best fries.
The last 3 times Joan has brought Wendy's fries home have been TERRIBLE. The fries were totally cold and hard once, they were undercooked but warm a second time, and the third time they were rubbery. They also seem to be thinner all of a sudden. Very sad.

Looks like it will be KFC potato wedge or nothing for me going forward.

I could live on the double-double meal for life!!!!

Fries are cut right there in each shop, so they are as fresh as you can get. You need to go to know the secret menu and order your fries "well done". Or "animal style" if you like them with their secret sauce, onions and cheese on top.

Though I can't blame anyone for choosing McDonalds fries. Best on a late Saturday morning post Friday evening festivities.

Yes! New York Fries! By far the best. Funnily enough, the chain is only in Canada, Korea and U.A.E. :?

I don't really like fries....but, the fresh made ones on the NJ boardwalk are GREAT!!

WHAT!!! You don't like FRIES! They're one of my desert island foods...
Not really isn't that weird? Too bad I like most everything else :D
My husband went to Mcdonald's daily for dinner before he met me, but he hates fries.

I agree that boardwalk fries are hands-down the BEST! ...that's why I said I like WingStop fries so much. ...that's what thy remind me of. ...at least the one they had where i went to school
I've tried all the fast food fries and McDonald's consistently produces the best tastiest fries. :clappurple:
If I go to Arby's I will order the potato cakes over their fries, those cakes have been around forever.
None, frugals has the best fries. Its something you can only get if you live in my area.

Absolutely the best!!! BK would be my next.
Love Steak N Shake fries too! Krystal comes in a close second!
Debating the best fries is a thread that we could all support popping up every so often :excited: Time to make a fry run...where will I go :lmt:
Maccys fries rule!!
KFC are too dry have no salt, and burger king are too thick.. we dont have the others listed on that list
I have to have a arge big mac meal with extra fries, and a banana milkshake to top it all off! :D Haventbeen to maccys since a month ago! Gotta get mom to take me to the drive thru!!! :wag:
