The big test - wish us luck!

Mom's coming over tomorrow for a big turkey dinner. I got a fresh turkey for Christmas, but we decided we wanted Sauerbraten instead so the bird's been in the freezer till I had the time to cook it.

This will be Bentley's first experience with a) guests in the house for more than a few minutes, b) major cooking involving meat and bread products and c) eating at the table.

He has been such a good kid for a few months now and my work hours are finally back to something resembling normal so we're going to give it a try.

Please split your good wishes amongst the following fears:

1) Bentley will grab the entire turkey and walk off with it
2) Mom won't remember that the toilet paper is now kept under the sink
3) Bentley will do his Tigger imitation and scare Mom to death when she walks in the door
4) Bentley will discover that stuffing is BREAD
5) Bentley will bark loudly the entire time Mom's here
6) Kayli & Bentley will fight over who gets the wishbone

lol lol Good Luck....

Bentley.... You gonna be a good Boy for yr mom.. :D
Your mom hasn't met Bentley yet?? 8O

It will be interesting to see how he reacts. Get the buzzer ready and keep it nearby!

Hopefully he'll surprise you and be an angel. But there's no guarantee when there's all that delicious food around! At big holiday meals at our house, Drez just circles the table behind everyone's chairs until we tell her to lay down. And as soon as one person pushes back their chair, even if it's just to fetch something, she's up and panting as if to say - is it my turn yet???

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Chris
Chris, Mom's met Bentley when she's come to pick me up for the antique markets back in the fall. When he was at his "best".

She called me a week before Christmas and asked if Bentley was fit for civilized society yet and then said she would have Christmas at HER house. 8O

Kayli always lies down at someone's feet. She never begs, she just looks hopeful. At holiday meals she always gets a plate of her own after everyone has eaten. (We bet on what she will eat first. This year it was the veggies.) She knows this and I'm still not sure what to do about that this time.

I've avoided giving Bentley any people food 'cause he would then decide all people food was his. I know how his mind works.

Lately, the only fights between Kayli & Bentley are either food related or because Bentley stepped on Kayli and she wants to teach him a lesson. Either way, they're short - maybe 5-15 seconds and then they glare at each other and lay down.
Good Luck! Here's to a calm, civilized meal!
Best of luck Jil...Bently, Im sure will make you proud...youve worked long and hard with him! :D
Good luck Jil!
Good Luck Jil,
We are keeping fingers, toes and paws crossed for you.
BE GOOD BENTLEY is being repeated over and over...lol
Good luck, but I think Bentley stealing the turkey could win you 10K on America's Funniest Videos.
I second that... might wanna have a video camero on hand! Best of luck Jil, and Bentley... BE GOOD!
Whoa, good luck! I'd offer to take him to make it easier but I already made plans with my sister and I'll get the business if I break them.
Good luck :)

You don't give the dogs the wishbone do you? Those can be very dangerous....
No, no wishbones for the dogs, I was just being silly.
Hiya Jil,

Now I'm thinking you'll still be a happy person if Bentley doesn't do at least 4 of the 6!! I'm crossing my fingers, eyes, legs in hopes all goes well!!

Hoping good things for you and Bentley and Kayli too! Do you have someplace to put him for quiet time if it gets overwhelming? Your avatar photo is adorable. He is deceptively charming looking.

Best of luck!

Good Luck, hopefully it will go off without a hitch. Hope the stuffing doesn't have onions. Just in case he realizes it's bread. :D
