Motormart, can you give some more information?
in the front room at home the niece was stroking my 6 yr old sheepie i was not there lilly spun neck around and bit my 8yr old niece on the chin causing no damage she is a very fussy (wants to be stroked). she has snapped my father in law 6 months ago causing no damage i was not there so wife does not want her to bite the kids or anyoneelse so she wants to give her to a rescue place for sheepie dogs
That's a shame. I'm glad no one was hurt. It is hard to know what is causing it since you weren't there to witness either event. Is it possible she has an ear infection or some other injury that is making her sensitive to touch?

I think it is possible to address the issues but I would think it would require the willing cooperation of both you and your wife. Would she be willing to go to training classes with the dog or is she pretty resolved that she wants to give the dog up? Was the dog yours or did you and your wife choose her together? Did you get her as a puppy?
Do you know if she was biting aggressively or just nipping to say "play" or "pet" me. My Annie does this frequently, but doesn't hurt anyone. What state are you in?
Was anyone with your niece and the dog? Did someone witness it? Maybe your niece accidentally pulled the dog's hair and the dog reacted? Has your niece spent much time with the dog? Sometimes dogs do not like children. To me, it seems a little fast to want to take the dog to a rescue place. Has the dog been acting normally (not sick or hurt)? Or have there been any stressful changes in your house?

My parents' sheepdog is the nicest dog in the world--we can practically do anything to her and she won't react, but every once in a while, if she's in a bad mood, or we've pushed her too far, she'll nip at us (she's 8 and has done this maybe twice to me)
i am in england uk she is trained but has alot of energy so not to a high standard ie in a field off lead she wont come back straight away. the nip was done agressively and growled other people were there and said she was not being poke or anything like that me and the wife had her from a puppy is 6 old for a oesd
well whenever i or anyoneelse has poke her or done things to test her not often she has been ok unless she has a bone my niece sees her regulary
Do you think she's sick? Has she been agressive before? I know you said she nipped at your father, but has there been anything else?

No, 6 isn't old for an OES. There is a broad range of ages, but typically they can live to be 11-14.
I'm not sure, but it sounds like an accident, but if oithers heard growling... well, maybe not.

Believe me, I'm the first guy to say: "The safety of the humans comes first" but just spinning around asking for "more rubs" while the child was leaning could have been an accident.

Either way, I would very closely supervise them for a while. If your wife feels that this was aggressive and definitely not an accident, I'd have the dog checked for illness, and if healthy some tough decisions need to be made.

Good luck, and do keep us posted.
Motormart, if your dog hasn't done this until just recently I would be inclined to take her to your Vet. for an 'overhaul'. She may have a sore spot or even a tooth which may need to come out. It could be any number of reasons. Unfortunately our dogs can't tell us if they are feeling off colour. Personally that is what I would do.
hi motormart where about in the uk are you as there as breed groups that could help access the situation and give you some advise. But first i would agree with what everyone else says and have her looked at by a vet just incase its a medical problem. please keep us posted.
