Westminster Kennel Club dog show 2006

I can't believe nobody's talking about it yet but tomorrow starts the Westminster Kennel Club dog show.
OES are on Tuesday the 14th, they show at 2:30 in the afternoon. That means that for those of us who aren't going the breed judging will be available online at 4:30.

Here's a link to the info about the online status and you can check the meno bar on the left for more info.

The 2005 breed judging video is still available online if you're really bored!

Love westminster, can you put up the link, Pleeeease!! How many OES entered?
I am SO excited about Westminster!!! I can't wait to see who wins our breeds group, and then herding group, and then best in show!
I did a search on my tv listings last night, and it IS listed for tonight 9-11pm, but I have a feeling that listing will change later as Canada never lets me watch dog shows unless it is re run about a year later when they have nothing else to put on
For the AKC/Eukanuba show it showed on my listings but when I went to watch it it wasn't on. This time I'm not getting my hopes up too high. LOL
I wish we got to see more of the breed judging, you know, all of it would be nice. Last year the website had wonderful video so I hope they do that again.
Sorry, I did forget the link.
Here is the link for last year's breed judging:

Yay! Coco got best of breed for Norfolk Terriers! Not to jinx ourselves but it's looking pretty good that we'll be getting on of his grandsons in May.

Thanks for the links YAY :D

We had a news clip on the dogs arriving at the Hotel they stay in WOW talk about 5 star service, from pooch salons, to poochie gyms, restaurant special food for them to even a dog fortune telling service, mmmm wonder if they can predict a winner
I'm SOOO excited for tonight - I've had this on my calander for ages!! I always keep my hubby propped awake with pillows while I pour over every breed that is entered!

http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/20 ... ngshe.html
Now you can see who will be competing tomorrow and figure out who you want to root for. Looks to be a bit of a smaller entry than last year.
I get Discovery Channel, but not in HD :(
I've been watching some of the breed judging on the site, but they don't have a whole lot posted yet. Most of the breeds I love to watch are tomorrow. :)
Some very cute pups today. I walk through The Garden on my way to the office. A GEORGOUS weimeraner (sp?) Taking a break outside with it's owner. Another one was being wheeled around in his crate and was not too happy about it. TONS of doggies wandering around in the snow - they looked hapy, their owners did not!
Josh -I'm so jealous of you being there! :D
Mandy,

Did you get a premium list or a catalog? Some impressive entries, Marnie Harris always has nice dogs as does Barkshire and Jere Marder of course.
I have no tv so I can't watch
Just got what's on the website. Looks like Jere's got both Dezi and Bette entered. Ron's fav, CH Familytree's It's My Day is also on there. One Barkshire dog and Marnie Harris' Masquerade Moneyline is entered. (He's very nice!)

About another hour and the video will be up!

M (I didn't feel like signing in!)
Maybe next year we'll be rooting for Mandy and Toby!

Congrats to them all! :clappurple:
Hooray! Puppy has a bugaboo dog for a grandparent!! Congrats to all the winners!!!
:clappurple: Congrats to them all!
I'm camping out on that website waiting for the video!
Congratulation's to Smokin. He is a wonderful specimen of this breed.
A Group 1 at the Garden is one heck of an accomplishment.

Knowing what Mr. Reynold's has said to me of his likes, I think he really had a hard time there as he does like OES. And a number of other judges have told me this is one of the nicest OES in their openion.

Ditto - he looked wonderful!
That headpiece is amazing!!!!
He is a stunning dog!! What an accomplishment!!
What a great show! We stayed up late to watch the second broadcast. Tough job those judges have, so many beautiful dogs and so hard to compare. Congrats to Smokin' and his handler for keeping him so perfectly fluffy!
Yeh, Top Seven. The dog that won is ugly!!! Those dogs make me laugh. Look at the fox sports website pics of the dog show. The sheepie is so cute, I love the hair do!!
CNNSI has pictures posted of the Westminster on their site:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multim ... clude.html

2 OES in the gallery of 9 pics.
Bob the sheepdog is so cute! I'll have to try that hairdo with barns
That is a cute pic of Bob! :D

Is that Jennifer McClintock the designer?
Tammy, the designer is Jessica McClintock--but I thought the same thing!
Jessica McClintock is the designer, maybe it's a family member? We could all have new dresses if we play our cards right!

And I just realized that Holly said maybe next year for us. Suuuurrrrreee. I'd be thrilled to pieces if he finished in the next year! But thanks! :go:
I just watched the video, they were really beeeutiful dogs. Mandy , PLEASE promise if you make it to the BIG TIME you will wear something ATTRACTIVE. I have never seen so many BUTT UGLY outfits on women as I do at that show. Do they dress that way INTENTIONALLY so as not to distract from the dog?????????? The men always look nice but the women always look like frumps, WHY IS THAT??????
Ginny, that's funnt that you said that. This year I was actually thinking that the women looked better than usual, that it looked like some were at least trying to look decent. But so many of them still looked horrible. I understand the bad shoes since you need to be able to run your dog, but there are so many dress choices that they should be able to find something!

Oh yeah...you're right of course! Maybe she could design dresses for those fashion challenged handlers. :D
Since there is no way, or practically no way, to look good in a dress with ugly shoes why don't they stick with pant suits or slacks and nice tops????? There were a couple that did look nice but not very many!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There was one women who handled a couple dogs that I saw who wore a salmon colored suit and looked quite sharp, now I can't remember if she was showing a malt or an OES cause I just watched both videos.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Sounds like a plan to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Regarding outfits - When showing, the rule is to try and wear a color that contrasts from the coat color of the dog. 90% of my wardrobe is black. I have a hard time justifying spending money on colors I won't normally wear so I just pick up outfits at Walmart & Target. So I assume that is part of the problem. I can't wait for Frank to turn all gray so I can start wearing black again!

-VerveUp
I don't think the buying clothes at Walmart or Target is the problem. I mean, you are allowed to see the clothes before you buy them, right? To me, it appears that the handlers spend 100% of their time focused on the dog and how it looks and acts and do not care how they look...
Hello....there are nice shoes out there that you can run in...Id still prefer heels, but, I do understand some having to wear flats....I just cringe at the shoes..... 8O
There are no problems whit running a dog in the ring with heals…… :P

I usually use a black jeans and a nice top when I’m showing in the summer, but in the winter I’m in jeans, wool sweater, flees jacket and winter shoes 8O the show’s are usually in a could not preheated place.
But what beautiful dogs at the show…. I’m longing so for a show but I have to have my puppy first

Darcy I think you ought to get out there and tell those women how to dress    I'm certainly no fashion consultant (I wear sneaker ans kakis everyday!!!!!!!!!!) But I think that would be just up you ally!!!
oooh a second career...fashion consultant at dog shows...move over Stacy on "what not to wear"...here I come....
Do it, also teach thtese women that frumpy is not in.
only if you'll help...you do own Prada, ya know :D
Okay. I'll do the purses and you can do the shoes.
Why not have the ladies wear a tuxedo, just like the guys?
Good Idea Ron, I just bought myslef a really nice cream colored Tuxedo type suit for new years. (PS, Don't wear it when Paul is around cuz you end up wearing his drinks)
The lady in the lime colored suit's name is Maggi. She handles for Jere and also handles Maltese. She just happens to be Toby's second mom too. Super nice and a great handler.

So what does everybody think of my outfits? Definitely check the shoes. Deb's breeder was making fun of my boots. (I know, I know she was kidding! ) These are the only pics of me handling so only one outfit to speak of but, do I need different outfit? Is there a makeover show for dog handlers? Can we write to Oprah?

Here is me in my lovely $20 Walmart Outfit. I must say though that the shoes are actually kind of cool, purchased at Benjamin Lovell's and have zippers on the side, even though they look so frumpy with my outfit. 8O

Thankfully Mandy wasn't at the Wildwood show where THE JUDGE actually pulled off a "Machine Washable" tag off of my brand new Walmart outfit I had bought just for that show. I should have told her it was a new fashion statement.
at least they aren't Keds?
Did anyone listen to the female commentator at Westminster? I think she was doing her best at being the female "Fred Willard" from the Best in Show movie with her silly comments. When the Hound Dogs came out she was saying things like "Now I can really say Ain't Nothing but a Hound Dog..."
That's bad, Deb!!! Maybe it's the same judge I had up in Bloomsburg. The jacket I was wearing matched the skirt she was wearing. It looked like we split a suit, she was thrilled to pieces about it.
Did y'all hear that one of the dogs "escaped" while leaving one of the airports? A whippet disappeared around Noon. Still missing. No one is sure where or how it escaped.
  This is the Norwegian habit for women seen from the ringside by Arnfinn! :go:

The text says: "Show-girls on the roade"
LOL

Did he make the woman's face resemble a pug or something on purpose or is that a coincidence? Either way, very good! :)
Gosh, I had class last night and I really missed something!!!! FIRST, YA'LL look great!! MANDY I love the boots. Verve the outfit has class, I'm in hysterics over the machine wash tag!!!!!!!! Tove I LOVE THE PICTURE, you really do need to post the link to your husband's site!!!!!!!!!

I like the idea of tuxedos!!!!!!
I like the ideas of tuxedos, too, because then everyone pretty much looks the same and can really concentrate on the dogs. That said, however, the women need to be told that there are ladies' tuxedos. I'm sure many of them would just go rent men's suits...

Mandy, I like your outfit! I don't know if it would work for a fancy show like Westminster...it seemed like people were more dressed up. But I LOVE the gauchos and boots! (and colors).

And Deb, I like that you wore color--it makes a nice change from all the beige that the handlers always seem to wear.
Who's the hunky handler walking Smokin' on the SI.com website??? 8O He's a hottie! Never seen 'em like that before.
Mandy your outfit is great and the shoes are exactly what I talking about!!
Smokin's handler is Colton Johnson. He is Doug and MichaelAnne Johnson's son. The Johnson's have the Bugaboo line.
Smokin is the same OES that won the herding group at the Eukenuba tournament. There are some pics of him at the Top 20 in the Centennial album.

There's kind of a funny store about Colton. At the National, I was pulling out of the parking lot and he was at the outdoor wash area scrubbing down one of their dogs. Suds everywhere! I was laughing as I drove out, which was about 6:00 or so at night. When I came back the next morning, about 7:30, there's Colton scrubbing again. It looked like the exact same scene that I had left the night before. I had to go over and poke fun. At least he was a very good sport about his seemingly 14 hour washing!
Here's a link to the story about the whippet who escaped from JFK airport:
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/02/16/missing.dog/index.html
I'd say there's one canine vote against checking dogs in the cargo hold.

As for the shoes - I agree, what are these women thinking? I spend a lot of time running through airports and standing to do presentations, and I would never be caught dead without cute shoes. If you don't like heels you can certainly buy shoes that are flat, comfortable and cute. If you want to wear flatter shoes, then you coordinate shoes and hose the way Deb did (yay Deb) so that the look is one unbroken line. These handlers wear big ol' black shoes, then wear nude hose and knee length skirts. Why not just carry a sign that says "LOOK AT MY SHOES".

And Mandy, I love the whole outfit.
