Have had a Beardie for 15 years and he recently passed away. We are looking to get an OES puppy and have found a few breeders, but seem to like this one. Was wondering if anyone has heard anything about them. The name of the breeders is"Paws Up North" / Angela Walker & Diane Brown located in Michigan. Any info would be appreciated as we do not want to buy from a puppy mill! Thanks!!
Please contact Tarja Peters. She is the chair of the Old English Sheepdog Club of America's Breeder Referral program.

You can contact her here through this link (if you're a member, and logged in),

or you can email her directly at oescrazy2@yahoo.com

Good luck!
Sent a PM...Thanks Ron...
She is unfortunatly unable to say anything ,one way or the other about any particular breeder. While i understand; thats not much of a help. If anyone has any firsthand knowledge of this breeder , or knows anything for that matter..please PM me, as we have given a deposit and expect a litter in early april. Thank you very much!
Ahhh well,

I hope whe was able to tell you whether or not they have at least signed the OESCA Code of Ethics. At least that would give you some idea.

Have you asked the breeder herself if she's a member of OESCA and if she's signed OESCA's Code of Ethics and if not (to one or both), then why not?

I know that I'd be interested in knowing one way or the other, and if not their erasons why not. Perhaps other visitors would be interested, too.

If anyone has firsthand knowledge of this breeder, could you PM CRJB?

Thanks.

No i havent asked yet Ron....but i Am goin too now.. Smile
I will keep ya posted... Cool
Another thing to discuss is if her dams and sires are all offa certified (for more info, check out offa.org If the breeder has provided you with the registered name of the sire or dam, you can check for their certification online! the search engine is a little touchy though...). a responsible breeder will do their utmost to make sure their breeding stock is healthy, and that they are not passing on genetic diseases. Do they check for:

Hips (offa)- what's the incidence of hip dysplasia in their dogs, and in the puppies they produce. Note- NO lines are 100%, but they should be doing their best to make sure the incidence of severe dysplasia is low.

Ears- is there a history of deafness in their dogs

thyroid- is there ahistory of thyroid issues

heart- I can't for the life of me remember what the heart issue is... can someone help us out here???

If your breeder is making an effort to make sure their dogs and puppies are healthy, you've probably got a winner!!!

Good luck with your puppy search!

I'm nearly positive that someone on this board has a dog from that breeder because I've seen their site before, no doubt about it. Unfortunately, I cannot recall if this person still posts here or not. A lot of good I am, right?! Sorry for the total lack of helpfulness!! Embarassed
Best wishes for your search for a puppy, so exciting!!

Another thing to ask the breeder for as well as all that Iriskmj has stated is that the Sire and Dam of the litter has had eye clearance/testing certificates done before breeding. Make sure that you sight both certificates one for mom, one for dad, before making a decision on a pup. In oes "entropian, Juvenile cataracts and PRA (Progressive Retinal Dysplasia)" is a hereditry condition that OES can suffer from. The last one PRA sends them blind in there early years. Any reputable breeder should have those eye clearance certificates for you to view!

Good luck with your search, do your homework, ask lots of questions and all should pay off with a healthy addition to your family Wink
