Panda and I are going to dance!!!

Hi Everyone,

I'm as happy as a little pig in a mudhole!!! Last year (April) I went to see musical dog agility (freestyle) with my friend and I was hooked. The upright and their dog move to choreographed footsteps to music and competitions are held all over the world. Always wanted to do it but since I worked nights it was impossible to attend classes.

My night job ended last week and I had the time!!! Wheeee! Unfortunately, they are so booked up ....there is a waiting list of a year. Boooooooo :?

However after chatting on the phone and learning of Panda's incredible rescue story and how I take him out daily to run through a series of things..like "circle" - Panda then runs around a huge circle in one direction , then I wave my hand in the other direction and he does it. I then point my finger and he immediately sits , two fingers and he lies down. Okay not spectacular I agree, but he's so willing to please that I always thought he'd be a natural at musical freestyle.

Please note musical agility isn't picking your dog up by the front paws and dancing but of choreographed steps by both dog and upright, usually with a theme in mind. Psss aren't OES the clowns of the dog world? Some of you may remember that I was a professional clown for a number of years before I became a magician. We can be clowns!! Ha Ha!

Mandy once sent me a beautiful poofy thingie for Merlin to wear around his neck, which I think he could loan Panda.

On another note, I had just asked the vet about this very thing 3 days ago, concerned if this may cause strain on Panda's hips and she said no. It keeps his mobility and moderate excercise is good.

Ahhh I'm so wordy again...in a nutshell they said, YES!! ....We'll make room for you and Panda!!!!! I'm thrilled and tomorrow I'm going to class!!!

How exciting! I can't wait to hear all about it 8)
Thats funny you said that. My pap forwarded me a video clip on the computer of a lady doing exactly the same thing. I was amazed. The name of the forward was best trained dog ever. Maybe someone will send it to someone here on the forum and everyone could view it. I didn't know how or I would have. It was awsome pretty amazing.
The 2004 NEOESR Picnic DVD has Peggy Anderson dancing with her dog for several minutes. :D
That sounds like so much fun. I can't wait to hear how it goes!
We not only want to hear but we need
PICTURES
Finally! Now we can yell, "Shake it Panda, Shake it!"

WooHoo!!!!

You could also be dancing bananas.
That's fantastic! I can't wait to hear how the class went. I've seen the dancing before on tv and it is so adorable and a great bonding opportunity for you and Panda!
Panda sounds so smart! :) That is so exciting to hear an OES do. We definitely need a video eventually.
Marianne, is this like that video that i have seen with the lady and the golden retriever dancing to grease??? if it is that is wickedly cool....panda girl is sure to swoon over a panda boy that not only can dance, but wants to as well!!!
Hi,

Darcy, it is the same thing as the famous vid of the woman with her Golden dancing to Grease. I'm supposed to show up in a few hours and they gave me the option of either bringing Panda with me the first day or coming alone. I'm thinking I'll just observe by myself today and then can practise some stuff with him before going to Tuesday's class.

If you look on the photo gallery of that site it shows some of the people with their dogs. In the lower right corner was a woman I was so impressed with. She danced the tango with her dog and at the end her dog brought her a rose in his teeth!

Panda boy is now enthused about Panda girls reaction to his new dancing career and promises he'll work hard at it.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes!

LOL Sounds like fun.... you wouldn't catch me in a million years doing that though!
Yup, I CAN SO SEE YOU dressed as a flamingo dancer with a rose between your teeth dancing away
Ha! Ginny! My thoughts exactly when I viewed the performances...That is SO ME!!

Well sadly nothing to report as I got lost and drove hopelessly around for 2 hours!! urg! We've had a wind storm hit the West Coast unlike ever seen in our history...took so long to drive there, power out at all the intersections, rain , wind..ewww ugly weather and so hard to slow down and read addresses. I knew I was close by somehow couldn't find it. Probably kick myself later and realize I had passed the place numerous times. I just went home and will try again to find it tomorrow in the daytime, although classes aren't until Tues. I'll be armed with cellphone and map the next time.

Aw. Sorry you had trouble locating the facility. Glad you got home safely. The weather has been crazy all over the map this year!
Rotten weather spoiling your fun! :x

This sounds like such a great thing for you & Panda. I can't wait til Wednesday to hear all about it! :D
Marianne you are going to love the dog dancing, it is just the best, I have not done it myself but have a friend that does with 2 sheepies and it is just fantastic. I often go and watch her and the group all dancing together, so great for them as a lot of training involved and just takes all to the next level with people and their pooches.
Let's know when you start your first lesson how it goes, I know you will just have so much fun with panda doing this together.
Hi Marianne and Panda

Dancing with the furry!
I created a poor quality/low bandwidth excerpt from the video...

It's still 1.8 megabytes, so if you're on a dial-up connection, you might want to right click on this link:

and save it to your on machine.

Otherwise, you can click on this link:

to see it on the photo gallery.
Tove, your hubby's talent is just amazing....
Thanks for posting it :)

Tove, your husbands artwork is just amazing!!!

Ron, your video clip started my day with a smile!!!

Marianne, I can't wait til you are a FAMOUS dog dancer  The next big reality show will be Marianne and DANCING WITH THE DOGS
Ahhh!!!!!! how cool and exciting!!!! You have got to keep us updated Marianne, this just sounds too neat!!! If I wasn't so dance impaired, I might be tempted, but I'd have a harder time trying to remember and accomplish the moves then the dog would!!!

Be sure to take pics!!! I wanna see dancing Panda... Darcy, maybe you should do this with Panda girl, then you guys could do a duet (quartet?) of the dancing Pandas!!!!
LOL...that is a great idea Karen.....I was just thinking that Marianne needed to take Panda boy on that Pet Stars show on animal planet!
Forget the pictures - we need video!!
