Pregnant Momma coming into rescue

I got a call Saturday from a women from NE Texas with a pregnant Sheepie she doesn't want.....She said she was tired of taking care of dogs and didn't want to put up with puppies....I tried to ask her questions about the Momma and Daddy? She was almost indifferent!!!!! She said she had had puppies before and she was about 6 years old......She said she thought that the Daddy was a Sheepdog but wasn't sure...... I have learned in rescue to really not believe anything anyone tells me.. I told her I was going to be in Dallas Wednesday and could drive and get her.. I ask directions and tried to set a time to pick her up......She just said I will call you back...... She called back last night...She said she would meet me Wednesday in Dallas......I don't know what I am getting into.......I'll take her to the vet Thursday for an ultrasound..... I will have to foster her with my helper....Can't bring a pregnant Momma here with all the Old Babies.....Mercy!!!! I deal with a lot of strange people in rescue. But, this is a new one for me...... I don't even know when the Babies are due....She said it was around Christmas she thought that she got pregnant.....Since she didn't want me to drive to her place and get her tells me she doesn't want me to see her place....None of this makes any sense to me.......We'll see Wednesday if she even shows up.....I have seen so much that nothing really surprices me......This one bothers me.......Kaye Second Chance OES Rescue

This is a contravercial subject! Great for some good, passionate discussion..The owner could have just terminated the pregnancy, instead of contacting rescue to take the dog.

We took in a pregnant rescue dog last year and I got to foster, whelp and raise them. We really enjoyed it. We had all single-breed females and they were all spayed at 8 weeks old.

Puppy breath! I am sooooo envious!
Oh goodness! Bless you, Kaye! I sure hope you get her - for her sake!!
Good luck and be careful. Let us know who you make out.
It just doesn't make any sence to me. If she is a miller why would she be getting rid of a Momma with Babies? Maybe she knows that the Daddy isn't a Sheepie? Maybe health problems. She had no compassion at all about this girl.. I don't even know her name. She just said " I"m tired of taking care of dogs and don't want to put up with puppies" I could hear dogs barking both times I talked to her. If the breeding took place around Christmas the Babies would be due around the 3rd week of Feb..... I don't know why she contacted me??? Just got a weird feeling about this.......Kaye
Did she say she is a breeder? Did she mention having any other dogs right now? She must have a male oes if she thinks the father is oes....
It does sound odd Kaye... I would insist on going to her home, or at least get her phone number and address, maybe you can check in on the situation, and if need be, call aspca or something?
If you have caller ID get the phone number and do a reverse phone number search. But if she gets suspicious or thinks you are being too invasive she may not give the dog up, and do something terrible. Sometimes it is best to just get the dog and don't ask questions. The answers are often lies, anyway.
If it were me, I'd worry about getting momma dog out first, then try to figure out what weird lady's deal is... If momma has obviously been neglected, you should be able to contact the local law enforcement authority to help sort out this lady's issue... but for now the important thing is to take care of momma! Bless you Kaye!!!! Let us know how it goes!

Karen :)
I'd meet her to get the dog and just take down her license plate. Call the SPCA and let them know your feelings and they should be able to trace it from there. Don't put yourself in jeopardy with a potential crazy.
I have learned the hard way to go in easy until I get the Baby. If you come in to hard on these people they back off. My Job is to save Sheepies in need..... After I get the Baby I will take care of business.....That is the hardest part of rescuing....Wanting to Chicken Choke People for what they do to these Prescious Babies.....You just have to learn to deal with that frustration or you burn out....Just keep your Heart Right and save as many as you can...... Kaye
Definitely, getting her out is most important.... if it's at all possible to get more info after though, it would be nice to do something that might prevent these people from doing it again....
"Chicken Choke" that's funny!!

Definitely get her license plate. Car registrations will tell a lot about people. That can be done from a distance and very covertly. If you can, take a pic of her; maybe a cellphone camera or a friend with a desire to be in a Mission Impossible episode?
Also, write down a description of the woman as soon as you leave. Pull over just after she's out of sight and document her appearance and any distinguishing features. Height, hair, skin, eye color, clothing, jewelry, tattoos or anything out of the ordinary in speech patterns or her behavior. Also note vehicle description and distinguishing characteristics of the car, paint chips, rust or dents, bumper stickers or any notes about engine noises. All this info will be important if there ends up being a prosecution on animal cruelty or the like.

You can also call the local police and tell them that you will be meeting this woman ad said location at said time and you will call them when completed or set a time limit and if you don't contact them they should check on you.
If you have caller ID and have the phone number, you can Google the number and, if it is a listed number, it will come up with the name, etc. All you do is go to Google and put in area code and number as follows:
316-111-2222 (or whatever, obviously!) FYI to everyone - if you have ever put your phone number on the internet, anyone and everyone can google you and get your name and home address!
Mandy - you sound like you've done some covert surveliance yourself! :D
I don't have any info. ...Caller ID Privicy Control Out of area.. I tried to get her phone #....I tried to even get an email address....She is supposed to call tomorrow...... I am trying to put this in perspective.....So if she calls tomorrow and she meets us Wednesday... Great...Then I will go from there...Kaye
Best of luck with getting her home and safe Kaye. How heartless this person is, it made me so angry & sad to read this. You are such a wonderful person and bless you for rescuing this poor baby.
I agree with the philosophy of trying not to get this woman upset at you UNTIL that Mama is safely in your car and then you can get the license number.

Shug you've always had good gut instincts so it's good to listen to them. Good luck and I'll be waiting anxiously to hear news.

Marianne and the boys
What happened??

Are you ok??

Is the sheepie ok???

Did she turn up???

OOOh, I hope it had a happy ending!
This is really hard not knowing anything really about this girl... Not even knowing when she bred or to who. Not having any health history on her other then she had puppies before....What I was taking as "getting ready" was an infection. So she is taking Amoxicillin now...That is the only antibotic that won't hurt the Babies. Watching her very close. She is very Sweet and Humble.....Not even grumpy......Hopefully can clear up the infection and it doesn't hurt the Babies. Sheepie Hugs, Kaye
