What's not to love??

Hi Everyone,
I sent out pictures of Rags to everyone in the family. My SIL (The Mini Schnauzer Breeder) had this to say....
Dear Lord, he's a mop. What on earth do you like about these dogs? Ick!
My response... What's not to love?
They are sweet, lovable, soft, cuddly, protective, faithful, smart, funny, energetic, they love to play, a great source of entertainment and most of all they are great with kids. : )
Am I missing anything?? I am sure I have missed somethings.
I would love to add to that list if anyone has other things.
Thanks,

I think she is just having a visceral reaction to the appearance of the sheepdog. For whatever reason, we think they are adorable (they are!) but not everybody wants big or fluffy or tailless. I mean, I would never want a schnauzer but I imagine they have lots of loveable qualities that I don't see simply because I don't like the appearance. Maybe even some of the same qualities as we would ascribe to OES. But there is no list of schnauzer qualities that anyone could offer that would make me want one. I would just ignore her comment -- to each his own. :cow:

Yes, especially when they are wrong.
If you have to explain it, I don't think they'll get it!!!!!
That wasn't a very nice thing for your SIL to say. I know it's difficult, but try to ignore her comment and consider the source. Sheepies and schnauzers are very different. However, I do like schnauzers and think they are very cute in a little old man kind of way. :D
lol. My sister is appalled by both of my dogs-- more Clyde than Lucy. She has a serious aversion to all the hair which is why Lucy scores slightly higher with her. The best part is, Clyde knows it and is all over my sister for attention when she comes over.

It really is funny what different people like in dogs. I guess it's a lot like the kind of people that you're attracted to. Everyone likes someone different.

 .They say WOW!!hes so ugly hes cute!!Is that a compliment??So one day the lady who says that all the time one day i seen her and said "Becky your so ugly your pretty today!!"
Some people!!
I love schnauzers and sheepies...my two fav. breeds. I've had both. They each have their own little quirks, and I don't like one breed better than the other. I loved Sampson, my mini. schnauzer, but I love Jasper too. Honestly, they have some of the same qualities that I love most - loyal, intelligent, loving, and a good friend.
Well she did it again! My SIL has got to be the rudest, most negative person I know. She never has a nice thing to say. The day we put Harley down she stopped by to bring Hayley a late B-day present.
She told Billy it's his fault that Harley is dead 8O Even though I explained to her the Dr said he had cancer, probably bone cancer that started somewhere around his hips...explaining his hip problems for the past year and metastasized to his lungs. Hubby and I are smokers, but we do NOT smoke in the house. Boy was Billy mad!
Now, I sent a picture of Rags smiling that I had posted on here.
Here is another rude comment from the witch.
Quote:
Just what you needed, another big, stupid hairy dog that likes to bark in your ear!

Rags is VERY smart and she only barks when someone is at the door.
She talks like she hated dogs, yet owns about tons of Mini Schanuzer show dogs and seems to always be getting more... including my Nephew's Akitas and my Nieces Giant Schnauzers. Also she debarks all her dogs because she can't stand barking dogs.
I really feel I need to respond to this e-mail as I didn't to the last.
Any suggestions??
Oh, boy...family dynamics. This is a touchy one. Are you close with your SIL otherwise? She sounds like a bitch with a capital "B". Some people find it difficult to keep their mouth shut and consider how what they say might hurt another person. I have gotten into too many email wars with in your face, rude family members. There are so many things you could say and I'm sure want to say to her. To avoid getting into it with her, might I suggest a simple response such as "I wish you could see how much Rags means to us and we're really happy she's here." :D
I agree with Annie,

I had real issues with my SILs when we were getting married... they really stuck their noses into our business, and I really wanted to strangle both of them, but in the end, you have to deal with these people for a long, long time. It's probably better to take the high road, and just tell her you're sorry she feels that way, but you really love your OESs, that there's a breed out there for everyone, and that you hope that at some point she can see that.

What a rotten thing to have to go through!!!

Karen

Wish you were my SIL instead, than we could share in the glory of sheepiedom together!!!!
I agree. I can see how it would tick you off and you'd want to respond, but you don't have to justify your new addition to anybody. Your family is happy, and its really apparent that Rags is happy, and in the end if your SIL can't see that--then I'd say the light bulbs just not buring bright enough!
Maybe your SIL is miserable?

Aww Thanks Karen, How about we switch? Your SIL can have my SIL....lol
Stacy,
She is always a "B" Billy didn't talk to her for almost 2 years a few years back. Then when she met me she refused to call me by my name. I was her or she. I even took in 13 of her Schnauzers during the wildfires a couple of years ago. She would invite us places and send an invitation for Billy & Guest.
She really didn't start talking to me until Billy & I got married. The only time she has been nice to me is when I was pregnant. She expects everyone to help her out when she needs help and if you don't well then you get the wrath of the evil SIL
Billy knows she a "B". That is why he doesn't talk to her much. Of course when she calls....it is always because she needs him to do something for her. I have always been so nice to her. Last week I even picked up a Stuffed Animal Schnauzer for her when I found the OES that looked like Rags. I don't even know why I bother. I didn't give it to her yet and maybe now I will let Ryan keep it.
Do you all think it would be beneath me to respond?
I was thinking of writing to tell her how wonderful Rags is with the kids,
that she is very smart...doesn't shed and only barks when someone is here.
Or should I just ignore the rude comments?

Stacy,
You hit the nail on the head! She hasn't had a man in years... She ignored her Dr's advice about changing her diet (Which consisted of Fast Food 24/7) for some many years that her Diabetes is so bad now that she has to give herself shots of insulin 5 times a day. Also she is 4'10" and 300 + pounds. She treats her poor 23 yr old daughter like a slave.
She does not allow her to go out, she works for her Mother for free taking care of the dogs in the kennel, bathing, grooming...cleaning.
All while My SIL sits on her butt and barks orders. My poor Niece has no self esteem, no life....is also 300 + and has a 9 mos old baby.....and is now more that ever under her Mom's control.
That's terrible! I still would just provide her with a simple or no response at all. Consider the source...I know it's hard. Val is really good with this stuff. Oh Val, where are you???
E.. Your sil is just a bully..all you have to do is just nod your head at her and say...interesting opinion..Ill be sure to NOT keep that in mind....
train your dogs to pee on her shoes, then when they do, she will inevitably tell you they are stupid,

knod along and let her think so, the secret will be safe with you rags and pepsi that they did EXACTLY what they were taught to.

revenge is a dish best served warm....and on someone's shoes.
She sounds truly horrible. I would write something like "I had no idea you felt that way about our dogs. We wanted to share a bit of good news during an otherwise difficult time and we hoped that you would wish us well. I recognize that different people have different ways of showing affection and I will try not to be offended by your comments. We are very happy to have Rags join our family and we wish the best for yours as well. Warmly, . . ."

I guess I tend to think if you stick to the highground you will feel better in the long run. Don't sink to her level of mean and hurtful comments. Sometimes being nice is the most powerful response.
Gotta love the "Out Laws"...oops, I mean "In Laws"!!! :D

I know it is hurtful but, take the higher ground!
