New member intro

Hi everyone, my name is Kim and I am Merlin's mom. :D We live in Waterdown, Ontario, Canada.
Merlin is almost a year old sheepie. I want to thank those of you who were praying for Merlin's safe return home. For those that do not know, Merlin went to the groomer and when she took him to potty, he slipped the collar(maybe because she SHAVED him instead of giving him the puppy clip I asked for  ) Anyway poor Merlin was missing for 4 days and nights. We thought someone may have taken him in. No such luck for my Merlin. He was found and we were called and I went immediatly to pick him up. Poor guy had severe frostbite on his boy parts and some on his paws, he had also lost about 15-20 pounds in 4 days.
While Merlin was missing, our 13 year old Chow's health deteriorated. She had to be seen by the vet as well. 5 days after Merlin's return we had to do the humane thing and put our poor Chow down. Merlin and the rest of the family are missing Chelsea terribly.
Anyway that is a bit about Merlin.
Now about me, I am a stay at home mom of 4 small uprights(ages 5-10) and them and Merlin keep me pretty busy. I also like to do crafts and garden and home decorating. We are currently undergoing renovations to our home and will soon be putting in a 'grooming salon' in our garage. Merlin will never be going to the groomer again.
Hugs,

Hi Kim,
I followed your story on the list, and everynight sent warm thoughts wishing merlin to find a safe way home.
I'm also a stay at home mom..2 boys an almsot 3 year old and a 5 year old, and now cooper who is 13 months.
maybe you can post some pictures of your merlin, would love to see them!
Hi Kim and Merlin!!!! :D

I too, followed your heartwrenching story on the list. I haven't figured out how to post there. I was so glad to hear when Merlin was found. You guys were in my prayers then and also when you had to put Chelsea down. I am glad that she had a full life with you. You have had your share of troubles these past months and I hope everything starts looking up for you whole family!
I also am a stay at home mom of 2 uprights. Ashlan (6) in half day kindergarten, and Joey (3). They keep me busy as well as our goofy, lovable sheepies, Jack and Annabelle. We also have 4 Ragdoll cats, O'Malley, Toulouse, Berlioz' and Marie. As you can tell we love animals. I am glad that you have also came to the oes forum. Everyone here is great and they will give great advice and support. Welcome to the neighborhood! Stormi :)
Hi Kim! My name is Carol and I am a stay-at-home domestic engineer with 3 upright pups and one 5 year old OES. Mine our older, 21, 13, and 8 years old.
I also followed your story and was so happy you found Merlin and that you cared for Chelsea!
I am so glad to meet you! I have had mixed results posting on the list, so I just read and answer privately for now. I guess at this rate, I will forever be on monitored status  !

I feel like we should start a Stay-at-home-anomynous club  !

I hope you enjoy your visits here. You might want to learn how to use the search feature and search for the Winston story. It is one of our best on-going stories here!
And if you need any help posting photos, just let me know! We love looking at photos.
Lil Walty also has started an on-going bio/intro topic where we all had fun introducing and describing our beloved OES and their siblings. I forgot to include our parakeet, finches, lizards, gecos, and aquariums.
We enjoy similar things here, so there's never a boring topic!
And when you get ready to groom Merlin, we have a few comments on how that may be accomplished too! I myself have been grooming my sheepie since a mishap also. Although it is another time-consuming job; Abbi and I love it!
Welcome to the group! :D
Ok, I admit it - I don't know what the heck you're talking about when you refer to "the list" - what is it? You mentioned problems posting on the list. I guess maybe I don't know how to access everything on this forum and I hate to miss anything!
The list is the OES list. As far as I can tell, and the others can correct me if I am wrong. You talk to different people that have OES using email. In my opinion, it seemed to have a lot of posting rules that I couldn't keep up with and still have no clue how to even send an email to them. I think most of the people there give great advice on their sheepies.
To get to the list just type in www.oes.org and click on OES community pages. It has a link there to take you to the OES-L. I am sure if you want to learn how to post there is a way. Stormi :D
Stormi is absolutely correct.
The biggest thing about posting is that if you hit reply all it will go out to EVERYBODY. It goes back to the list. And the first 3-6 weeks all of your posts will be "held" a few hours, to be monitored.
And you may be thinking that is what is happenning when your e-mails are actually being denied by the server because you left the administration tag in the reply or because you left the message get too long (you shouldn't leave the original in the message -- it can go over the limits that way). Since your e-mail answers are being held, they are sometimes no longer relevant or taken out of context ( a lot like when you use an instant messenger). It can all get very confusing. And there are a lot of people on the list, towards 700 people who will read it and may answer you privately.
It is an interesting medium, but more time consuming than this one. I prefer being able to review what I said. Sometimes I just express myself wrong and here you can go back and fix that. If you are a member you can edit your posts here. Nice feature for those of us who seem to be challenged in the communication department.
The list does provide a WORLD of expertise though. Very qualified groomers, therapists, rescue workers and even vets are regular listers. If you have a serious problem with your OES, it is the place to go. You have to register, then go back and choose just how much you want sent to you. Another hint. You may want to open an e-mail account just for THE OES LIST so you can more easily handle the daily barrage of e-mails. You get 4-12 e-mails a day with topics inside. Some will be repeated even if you choose the digest method. You quickly browse and delete when you are on the LIST.
There are several other things that can go wrong when posting to the list, like it has to be in plain text format and needs to be fairly simple and consise. Still I have received great advice and met some VERY nice people on THE LIST.
Since their archives are being purged pretty soon I guess we should all do some research and save anything that is important to us ...
Hi Kim and Merlin

From Marianne and Merlin!!!

Wow! Merlin has a OES buddy with the same name as his!!! From the same country too!! Pretty amazing!

Kim I'm so glad you had Merlin returned to you as I was really heartsick when I read the story. What a terrible ordeal you must have gone through and I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your other dog.

Glad you decided to join and looking forward to sharing "Merlin" stories.

Marianne
Hi Kim and Merlin...welcome here!!! I am Vero from the List as well ...prayed so much for his safe return ...even posted your story here so the ones not in the list can know about it and pray as well.

although I don`t have much trouble posting on the list I rarely do...I have been taken off the monitored status but still rarely post.
you just have to answer in general using the correct topic you are writing in....other way the e-mail would get sent back to you.

Welcome Kim and Merlin....picture soon I hope coming this way :)
Vero and Pisco.
Thnk you so much for the warm welcome. I have to say it might take me a bit to get used to this forum. you could say that I am computer disabled
Merlin is doing really well. He was a nervous dog BEFORE he got lost and now he is really nervous! We are taking things very slowly. Before he got lost he would growl and lunge at other dogs. Even tho I took him to obedience school and all that socialization stuff, he never quite 'got it'
He is now coming around. We have a neighbour that is now sympathetic to Merlin's problem (now that he got lost they feel sorry for us!) and so Merlin and Buddy are slowly getting aquainted. The first time no growl until Buddy tried to hump Merlin! LOL! The second time same thing. The third time the 2 dogs just layed down beside each other, but they still have not run and played yet. We think it is too soon. We have also been going to Buddy's house, I think things might be different if Buddy came here. We are going to make them friends first before attempting that.

As far a the other list, it is quite easy to use once you get the hang of it. Yes the list is quite strict with all the rules(I myself don't know 1/2 of them! LOL) and be prepared for replies that are hmm how should I say it... very blunt and unfriendly at times. 8O

Hugs,
Kim and Merlin
