My favorite sheepie quirk

I just love it when I am sitting on the couch and Sasha comes up to me and rests her giant head on my lap...and just as my heart is bursting with love for her... she will very sneaky like (as though she is the size of a toy poodle)start to inch her way up until she is PLOP on my lap.

What is your sheepies 'quirk'? (I love reading all the funny stories!!!)

One of my favorites is....Panda will be sitting near the sofa and looking intently at me....Ill tell her to pull her weight around the house...ie go vacuum, fold some laundry, make the bed...etc...she cocks her head, goes over to her toy basket and tips it over..and looks at me again...brings me each of her toys...with the look of ...this is what you were talking about, right?? Thanks my darling Panda....LOL
einy looks at the sofa then sratches at it getting all the pillows and throws of it by putting them of the floor he then get up, curls up and goes to sleep

if they are feet on the sofa he head buts them untill you slide them up so he can get on. you are then permitted to lay your feet on him

if hes cold he will manage to wrap him self up in the throw or a comforter and snooze untill hes warm

like his comfort does our einstien
Aww Darcy, that is the cutest!!! There so sweet and innocent.
We are starting to find the remote controls hidden under the corner of the couch cushions where Bosley hides his bones.
Mine is seeing the vigorous wagging of her butt when I come home every day.
Truman races in from the back yard and goes directly to the table in the rec room where we keep the treat jar. He will stand there staring at it like he is in a trance. Then he looks at me or my husband with a pitiful look like "oh, for the love of God, please, please, just one....." :P Nine times out of ten it works! He's got us trained!
At various times, one of my three will come and just stare at me. Quietly, but intently. When I ask them to show me what they want, they take off for the kitchen. Sometimes it is to the outside door, sometimes to the pantry where the dog cookies are kept.
I'm waiting for them to realize that they already know how to open the lever door handle and just help themselves.
I love how my sheepie scoots for the door whenever I flash a plastic bag or put on my ipod. And if I don't hustle over with the leash, she'll come running back for me and bark to urge me out the door. I also love how she grabs the leash and shakes her head vigorously. I know that I am not supposed to let her do that but she is too cute to resist. My husband is Alpha enough to keep Francesca in line for the entire family.
I love the sound it makes when Maggie bounces her kong down the stairs. She does it repeatedly -- gets kong, runs to the top of the stairs, and then turns around and drops it. She and I are both entertained by it.

I've also grown fond of Chummie's habit of jamming her face between my legs when she wants to be petted. It was disconcerting at first  but now I see that she just wants to be cozy.
Merlin presses his head against the window on the door to see if there is someone inside to let him in, he smooshes his fur until his eye is clear of the fur.
Avalon licks the window of the door I think she figures if she is nice to it, that it will miraculously open.
Faith 'smiles' when dinner is served...she closes her eyes and pulls back her face and it really looks as tho she is smiling.
My favorite sheepie quirk is when Bogart offers his paw
when he does not want to come in from outside.
The next step is to collapse to a down position then roll over
for a belly rub.

I just ignore this walking away stating, no treats today........

He is up and at the back door in a flash! :D
My favorite sheepie quirk with Beau is when he sees or hears something on the TV and he tilts his head, just like his avatar.

He loves animal planet and a particular Window commerical here in Michigan.
Maybe he's trying to tell me that I do need new windows
I love it when we take Sky anywhere she assumes if there is a tin or jar on the counter it must be treats for her. She will put her paws up and then nudge it towards whoever is nearby to encourage them to give her a treat. LOL
Dancer is just a little princess, she is very subtle about being cute. LOL
Barney has a racecourse that he has to run every morning while we are outside doing his business. He'll first go pee. Then he'll walk over to the poop zone and do his business. As soon as that is taken care of--take cover!! He takes off as fast as he can and just runs the same few circles around the yard, then jumps up the stairs onto the patio and circles the patio table a few times. The best was when we had just had an ice storm and he went flying and crashed into a deck chair. He recovered himself and gave me a look like, what just happened!?

I also love when he herds his toys to his blanket and then chooses just the right one and then just about shakes it to death and then lets it fly...and repeat...
Annie has so many quirks that I love! I think my favorite is that she gives us paw and rests it on our arm while that hand rubs her armpit. When we stop scratching that side, she give us the other paw so we'll do the same. It's as if she says, "Oh, you're tired of scratching this pit maybe you want to scratch the other one for me". She'll keep doing this until we finally decide we've had enough. Cracks me up every time which happens numerous times a day. :D

Clyde does so many goofy things but this is our latest favorite. We do this thing when we get home from work-- we work together so we always get home at the same time. I stand at the back door and James stands by the front. Clyde comes bounding over to me with slap happiest look on his face because he's so glad to see us and he squishes into my arms and curls his one paw up to hug me back and be pet. Then I'll say "Clyde, go say hi to Daddy" and he runs to James and does the same thing. Then James says "Clyde, go say hi to Mom" and he comes bounding back to repeat it again. Then we send him back and forth a few times between us. It's so cute. (For all you behaviorists, I know this severely violates the "ignore for 5 minutes" rule but we haven't suffered any repercussions.)
Fletchie, oh so subtlely, lays on the couch with all four feet sticking off of the edge. But he only does it when he thinks that no one is home. Hehe!

He also gets super excited whenever he even hears the word W-A-L-K. Or hears the metal bit on the lead clink around. He's a goof ball.
Sasha's latest is in the morning when she really has to go outside she will walk in a quick pace beside me growling in a very low tone as though she is talking to me....if I don't open the door right away she will give me a nudge with her butt and continue to "growl".
Oh so many quirks.......one that comes to mind is when I want to pull the car out of the garage, I put Jack in his wire crate in the garage. To keep him occupied I give him half a cookie to curb barking. Then when I'm out, I go back to the crate, open the crate door slightly, give Jack the rest of the cookie and then I rush out the garage door and close it. Jack remains in the garage and back yard while I'm away. His quirk is whenever he senses I'm leaving (purse in hand) he goes nuts no matter where he is. "Plllleeeeaaase don't forget to give my the cookie, I've got to get to my box...now!!!!" He is an extremely vocal dog, almost as if he's trying to talk to us. He has more squeaks, chortles, snorts, etc. And I think I'm learning his language.
Both of my babies are very aware of their surroundings. If one thing is out of place, they investigate and bark the alarm.

Last night, we had a storm with pretty strong winds (gusts to 50 mph). The neighbor's toddler's basketball goal fell down. Apparently, in that new position, it poses a threat to national security!  Beau was in mid-pee this morning when he noticed it and took off running and barking as if it were armed & dangerous. I finally had to bring him to a place where he couldn't see it so he'd finish peeing.

When Gen went out, it was a repeat performance! :D

It's nice to know I'm protected from any dangerous kids toys.
No kidding, Tammy, that storm was pretty intense! I woke up about 2 or 3 am and the winds were so strong and steady it sounded like a vacuum cleaner...
It's still blowing pretty strong here, Steph. The wind has opened the front door of my office so much this morning I had to lock it! :D
It is still pretty windy and stormy up here, but definitely calming down. Now it is more gusty than windy...Wow--that's a strong wind to open your door!

LOL... Very true. Maybe your boys are part of the O.E.S. Patrol too!

Our sheepies wake us up on weekends so they can get their breakfast. Lennon guides us downstairs, then points to the fridge where the eggs are stored, then to the stove and then to his plate.... He wants his scrambled eggs!

But my favorite sheepie quirk is having two 80 pound lapdogs. Watching TV is an interesting experience now!
Remy has selective hearing I am sure. She understands many words, but her favorite word is WALK. Now my husband, makes me walk her sometimes ...just by saying to Remy wanna go for a walk.

Well this sends her racing around the house, nudging, jumping, barking..like we don't know she is saying yes.

Now I wisper the word, that I am planning on going, but she hears me comes racing and gives us the look, "did I hear right?" We can't even spell it, she knows what that means too.

Yet to get her to come inside when you want her too...impossible, she comes if she sees a treat. Otherwise it's not worth her time.
another of einy is that when you have given him something he really likes in a container ( be it his bowl or a cup) he finishes it then picks up the container and brings it to you in hope of getting some more

he really careful with them to hes never broken any cups
he even has his owm clear glass tea cup

zoe and einy
Einy and his teacup is one of my favorite thoughts!
My old OES Shag had so many adorable quirks. My favorite was how he always greeted us at the door when we came home, wiggling his rump and with some sort of "gift" in his mouth. I don't think he ever greeted us without something to offer, whether it was a tissue he fished out of the trashcan, a shoe, one of my little sister's dolls... something. It was so sweet.

I think my favorite Blue quirk is the way he anticipates cuddling with us in bed when we watch TV. As soon as he thinks it's bedtime, he'll start trying to herd us into the bedroom. Then he'll wait impatiently until one of gets in bed. As soon as we do, he'll leap up (quite gracefully -- it's the ONLY thing he does gracefully) and snuggle up to us. He usually wants to be in the middle, or preferably, on top of one of us puppy pile style. He'll stay up there, sleeping soundly until we turn the TV off, then he immediately hops right down and goes to guard the door. I think he'd stay up there all night if the TV stayed on. We've never made him get down, it's just his quirk!

Yeah, her and Bunk are so related. Walk, knows what it means and how it is spelt. She only hears what she wants to, as well as see's only what she wants to. Cookie is the only way to get fattie in the house at night. My baby has some major issues.
But my favorite quirk is having to lift her into my truck because she is too lazy to lift her $^@ in herself, and using my lap as her very own personal face cleaner.

Her latest is after we eat dinner at my parents, she will not leave my Dad alone until he takes her for a walk. She will follow him everywhere whining and stamping her feet.
Too funny about Bunker...hehe

They have issues, or are we well trained humans.

Remy sitting outside, me yelling come here...she is thinking "wait for it, wait for it...." COOKIE...."there it is...good human"
My favorite Rosco ones are these: he kisses my face very softly and I think how sweet...in reality he's smelling me to see if I have any food  The other one is when I'm sitting down he'll come up to me and stick his butt in my face so I can see if it needs cleaning   He's so used to me picking at him he just does it automatically

Bunker does that so I can see if she has Dingleberries, Rainger Girl (My sisters Dog) just drags her ass, then you know if she dingleberries. Thank God my Mom had Lino everywhere.
  That's funny, Holly!
Beau hates it when I start picking at his butt. He gives me this look like "MOM! That's private!"
My favorite Bentley quirk is this:

The dog food is kept in the smallest room of the house. I go in, shut the door, get Bentley's food, pour Kayli's food and then shut the door behind me when I leave to feed Bentley in the kitchen. I only let Kayli out after Bentley's done with his food, it avoids arguments.

One day, Otis the cat discovered that the door to that room doesn't shut tight most of the time, so he likes to go in and hang out. Bentley saw him do that and now when I go in to get the food he pushes the door open and then just stands there supervising the whole process.

He doesn't come in and he doesn't even bark at me to hurry up anymore, he just supervises with a big ole grin on his face.

Makes me laugh every time.

The best part is that I actually have a favorite Bentley quirk!! Yay!!
One of my favorite Drez quirks is that she LOVES, LOVES, LOVES (did I mention she LOVES?) to "go bye-bye." Doesn't matter if it's only for a short distance and 5 minutes and she doesn't get out of the car, she just loves being IN the van. She knows when she can or can't go, too. In the morning, she just walks me to the back door with a really sad look on her face, cause she knows she can't go with me to work (darn!). We're nearly ALWAYS barefoot at home, shoes come off right inside the back door. So when we start moving a little faster and even remotely head in the direction of the back door, she stands at attention, gets the deer-in-the-headlights look, then dashes for the back door. If she doesn't see us getting ready, we just say - do you want to go bye-bye? - and she nearly kills herself "running" to the back door. We can spell it, too. Still sitting in the chairs and with no motion towards the door, if we just spell - g-o-b-y-e-b-y-e - she bolts for the door. If we take too long to get our shoes and coats on, she starts barking. When we open the door, she dashes out, heads for the grass, pees (she knows she has to do this before she's allowed in the van), bolts for the van and just stands there at the back door waiting for us.

Offering a treat to get her to come back in is something she's does, too. You can call her and call her, and all you get is the deer-in-the-headlights look. She'll stand perfectly still for however long it takes, thinking if she doesn't move we can't see her, until we're ready to strangle her! But offer her dinner or a treat, and she comes bounding in.

Yep, she has us trained VERY well, thank you very much!

Chris
I love these posts! It's so much fun to read your sheepie's quirks!! :D
:D Great fun reading all these posts. What a treat! Willoughby loves to chew his latest bone and when it's really messy, he comes over to put it in my lap and continue chewing. He also loves to have me hold his bone as he chews it. He likes to give kisses and tries to climb into my lap when I'm reading or watching TV. He loves TV and watches anything with animals. I like to watch CSI and for some reason so does he. His funniest thing is humping his bed: it's a round bed with fake fur on one side and cotton on the other. He turns it on edge and attacks it. He stops and looks sheepish if I say in a small voice: Ohhhh noooo! Willoughby! My oldest cat is a Maine coon and has taken a protective view of him. For some reason she tolerates him: he loves to lick and pester her when she's in her favourite chair. If he goes too far, she hits him on the nose but keeps her claws in! Outside, he loves to race around the garden, jump at my shovel in the snow and play dodge 'em with me when he has a toy in his mouth. :D
Bye Bye story jogged a memory. Crumpet insisted she get her ride every day. Some days it was just 30 feet down the driveway and into the garage. That was fine with her. Woe to me if I forgot and drove in without my assistant. I'd have to let her in, back up and drive in again.

Crumpet also had a quirk about playing ball with us. When she had enough she'd take the ball to the toilet and drop it in. We learned quickly to keep the cover down.

Maudie loved to ride. We had a station wagon and she'd get behind us, lay down and put her head on the upturned back seat and gaze out the window as the world went by. My mother said it was quite a sight, the three heads pulling up to the house.

Oh so many more memories.........these are just silly dogs.
Gotta share my favorites...Pogo drapes his 85 lb. body across the side and top of the couch so that his paws hang off of the backside and watches me cook in the kitchen...he just smiles and waits...

I especially like it when he lays in the floor feet up and pumps his feet upwards like he's riding a bicycle! Still smiling. Does anyone else's sheepie do this? My first OES did this also, I assumed that they all do it.

Most of all he's always happy to see me and wiggles his butt. I was trying to put his collar on this morning (he has to sit before I will) and everytime I got close, he got so excited that he would wiggle to the extent that he couldn't sit down...I just had to laugh, he knew we were about to go.
I love the Drezzie story! She is such a doll! :)

Kim, your Pogo story made me smile too. My little princess Dancer does that lying on the floor thing pedaling her feet in the air. LOL Generally, that's when Sky pounces on her, with all the gracefulness of a hippo
Kim..Panda does that too :D and talks at the same time :D :D
Add Jack to the 4 in the air club. Mo puts her's up there but they don't wave about. Harry will only elevate one at a time.

This confirms that Drezzie looks and acts exactly like Chum! Chummie dashes out and waits by the car anytime she sees me with the car keys. Cracks me up. Treats are key to getting her back inside. If only she weren't such a nutcase in the car. . .
My little Sophie (15 months old, 53 lbs) has taken to sleeping in bed with me. I've probably had 6 dogs in my lifetime, but this is the first that I've allowed in bed with me (maybe it has to do with the fact that she's the smallest dog I've had).

Anyway, every once in awhile, in the middle of the night, I'll be fast asleep and suddenly BAM! Sophie, who is in a deep sleep, falls out of bed. The first time it happened, it scared the HECK out of me and once I realized what it was I just whispered, "Sophie?" and she laid there for a few moments and then just jumped back up on the bed and went back to sleep. Its very funny, but sometimes I wonder if she'll hurt hurt herself.

The BEST thing she does in bed is start out by my feet and by the morning, she has her head on my tummy and is starting at my face when I wake. Very sweet.
I Love It!!!!......when I come home from work and Ben somehow knows that I am coming back and he stands at our front window and waits for me. No matter how hard the day, when I see his fuzzy face....I can not help but smile! He is always there for that! A SMILE!!!
....I also love how, when Ben needs to go potty at night, he doesn't make a peep. He just puts his head under the sheets, finds my feet and licks them til I wake up! (It is like he just knows that I do not like my feet messed with, but somehow he gets away with it!) Silly Pup!
Gotto to laugh when they fall off the bed. My 95 beast does it at least once every 6 months. The first time it happen it scared the %&$# out me. I think I jump about 10 feet in the air, I look over and there is fattie sitting there with the look of shock on her face. I called her back up on the bed, gave hugs and kisses and checked to make sure she is okay and laughed the entire time.
Why is it so funny when they fall out of bed? Blue has done it several times, especially since he has a tendency to lie with his back to the very edge. If he stretched or shifts position, he slides right over. The look on his face is hysterical. Once he managed to catch himself and pull himself back up. The look on his face when we were laughing was priceless. It was as if he was insulted that we were laughing at him. He heaved a big sigh and plopped down with his back to us. I swear they're more human than some people I know.
My Pogo sleeps as close to me in bed as he can, he's such a cuddler!

Ever noticed that sheepies don't mind their legs or paws hanging off of the couch, bed, or whatever else...I think it's sooooo cute!
I haven't allowed barkley to sleep on the bed, so in the morning he comes over and puts his upper body on the bed with his back paws touching the floor. I guess he figures since he's technically "not on the bed" he can get away with it

Bunker does that when we won't let her up on the bed.

Sasha does the exact same, it's like it's there way of saying "hey!!!! You can't give me trouble na na boo boo". LOL. Although there are the times when the back paws slowley start to make there way up until I say "hey what are you doing?" Plop foot goes down.
Just had to share one more...Beaureguard's newest stunt is to lie down in front of the door in the mornings when he knows I'm getting ready to leave. He'll follow me around until I go to get my coat, purse & briefcase and while I'm doing that, he'll go lie down in front of the door. It's like he thinks if he blocks my path, I'll have to stay home & play all day. If only!! :D
Good Beaureguard.... poor Beaureguard...
I know! Makes me long for the days when he was coming with me to work. :(

I love when Annie does this! Our mailman comes late so Annie is often looking out the window when I pull into the driveway. She looks at me through the window with her head cocked to the side. I hit the garage door opener and then see her swing around leaving the drapes swaying as she heads to the lower level where I come in. She'll be standing there with one of her "babies" in her mouth whining. It's great to get her all riled up for when "Daddy" comes home. He'll call me from a few blocks away and I tell Annie to go wait for Daddy. She runs to the front window and barks with a very high pitch (like a puppy) when she sees his car pull around the corner. It's hysterical! I've put her on speakerphone so Steve can hear just how excited she is that he's pulling into the driveway! It's such a nice way to end his long work day! :D
Awww...how sweet...aren't they just wonderful??? :D :D :D
:D Willoughby goes to the door to the garage which is just off his play area and i have to step over him to go to the car. He looks ups as i go out with a very mournful expression.(He loves going out in the car!) I've started leaving him a trail of cooky pieces to distract him but it doesn't work. He's in the same place when I return (cookies eaten) and gets up wiggling all over when i come in the door. I still have to step around him to get in! Usually the eldest cat sits with him when I'm out. She's his baby sitter!
These are so fun! :D

I burst out laughing at this one! The Gooch does this too...today his lip was pressed up against the window! It looked hilarious!!!!

My favorite Gucci antic is how he gets so excited to see me and starts weaving around my legs and thru them...I have to stand on my tip toes to avoid going for a ride! He loves to rub himself on things!!! Everyday when I get home I go up to the bathroom and he proceeds to rub himself on G and I's towels from our showers in the morning, usually flipping them off the hooks and then rolling in them on the floor! Murphy always lays there looking at him like he's nuts! :D

My favorite Murph trait is how he cuddles! He always puts his head on my neck and falls asleep...then usually one of my body parts follows suit!

I think the best of all though is how they look at me, when they are relaxed and cuddling...I swear I can hear them saying "I love You". :D :D
One we really got tickled over was our Shadow. When it come time to trim nails. She'd watch me get everything ready and wait on me to sit on the floor. Then off she'd go to the other room. I'd call her, she'd come, lay down as far from me as she could. I'd pat the floor and tell her to "come here". She'd proceed to crawl on her belly (nothing left the floor) just a few feet. Just enough so you knew she moved towards you. We'd continue this until she was finally in front of me so I could do her nails. It was hilarious! Momma misses ya baby girl!
It is hard to decide on just one quirk that Mospy had, our favorites were:
1) wanting to be dragged while playing tug of war. She would let her whole body go limp like a rag doll and want us to drag her around the floor by her mouth except she couldn't do it after she grew up because her teeth weren't strong enough for dragging eighty pounds. That didn't stop her from trying to be dragged though.
2) Giving paws to you from the other room. She would sit in the family room facing the kitchen door and give a paw to her Daddy in the kitchen. As if we could see through walls.
Bad but cute honorary mention:
1)Barking at us if we stopped petting.
2)Crying over dinner, when she would rather eat treats, as she sat staring at her treat jar and only finally eating sometimes thirty minutes later after being hollered at to eat dinner or no treats!

My favorite Muffy quirk was without a doubt playing Lunge when she went by-by. She would sit in the middle of the back seat of the car and stare out the front windshield with her head in a lookout position (like Snoopy in the Peanuts strip when he is acting like a vulture) and watch for cars approaching in oncoming traffic. Just as it would pass us she would run to the back window on the drivers side and LUNGE at the car (sometimes growling). If another car was coming we would say "here comes another car" and she would get back in starting position ready to attack. We all had so much fun with this quirky behaviour that we would ask if she was going to play Lunge and she would get in position. We would add to the excitement by saying "Ready, ready, ready ...get it" then "Good girl!" She had great timing. By the way she only played this when the window was done. I think I even liked car rides when she played this.

By the way this thread made me laugh during my mourning period so thanks everyone for sharing.
