Is there anyway to reduce the amount of 'browning' in Sammy's beard? I tried clipping it back which helped for awhile. A breeder at a recent dog show suggested Apple Cider Vinegar in his water, I tried that but he wouldn't drink it even if it only had a few drops in it Confused Confused He isn't digging when he is outside so it isn't dirt, I can only assume if saliva.
There's a ton of threads on this if you do a search but the simplest way that's worth keeping up is to just change the water frequently. Clyde's beard is much less stained if I keep fresh water in the bowl as much as possible. There are products you can get but it's going to be a losing battle no matter what-- it'll keep coming back! Some dogs stain more than others too. It used to bug me a lot when Clyde was really young but I've come to accept it as part of having a sheepdog around. You know, kind of like the wet stains that are dragged across everything after drinking, muddy paws and never ending energy!
