Help please...

Hi! I am the owner of a beautiful one year old OES(we rescued her). The problem I have is that she seems to be having some problems with housetraining, I have been letting here out after eating and every couple of hours. But somtimes when I take her out and she doesn't go, she goes as soon as she gets back inside? What can I do about this, and is this going to be extremely difficult training an adult dog? Any pointers on adult house training would be great, thanks so much for all your help!!!

With an adult dog with questionable hostory of potty-training you will need to resort back to teh basics. Treat her like you would a puppy and do not let ehr out of yoru sight unless she is crated or barricaded in a small area. What you want to do is show her that outside is where you would like her to do her business, so you need to make it rewarding. Take her out on a leash, it can be a long one, and whenever she does any potty say "potty" or whatever you want to call it and give her a small, tasty treat. Right there and then. Inside she can have some playtime, and losse, but always supervised. Then after an couple of hours or so she should be crated or confined again. Give her an hour or so, then start over.
What you want to avoid doing is bringing her outside when she does nothing. So you want her to have a full bladder, so she performs for you and you can reward her.
Any accidents need to be ignored. you can interrupt with a sharp noise and husle her out to coninue it, so you can reward her. Don't scare her as she will not want to go in front of you. Keep this up for a few days, consistently, and you will see results.
Hi,

I've had many rescues that were not potty trained when they first arrived and the advice you recieved already from Bosley's mom was good. I've often said sometimes it's not enough for you to just open the door and they go out...you may have to go out with her for a while. It's also a good idea to use the same word regarding this...eventually they go on command the majority of the time.

Another thing you might consider...time allowing..is that all dogs give off signals in their urine...which is why you frequently see other dogs sniffing and urinating where other dogs have gone. Hey, I'm a 5 year old spayed female, I'm a puppy, I'm a intact male..and so on..
A good way for a dog to empty their bladder is taking them out for a walk around the block before you go out.
I feed my three first thing in the morning...now open the door they urinate...wait a bit until their food digest...and make sure I take them out before I go to work. No accidents! Well rarely anyhow!

Good luck to you and welcome to the forum!

OOps just realized this post is a few months old already..oh well...perhaps someone will find it useful. apologies for the lateness.
