Barkley did something strange this morning, and I"m not sure why. The alarm went off and he came over and stuck his nose in the back of my neck and started licking it--i presume to wake me up. I rolled over to pet him and suddenly he lunged forward about an inch from my eyes and snapped. Any ideas? After he went outside he was his normal happy self, and was fine when I got home from work.

If it's out of the normal maybe it was just when you rolled over it startled him and he snapped? Just guessing. Hope it doesn't happen again.
Are you sure it wasn't a giant open mouth lick? Clyde does that to me all the time and it looks like he's going to kill me but it's really a kiss!
Well I was pretty groggy, so its possible. But I heard his teeth click together when he clamped his jaw shut. Barkley can be pretty bossy I've noticed, but not aggressive. He's lets me take a rawhide or a bone from him right out of his mouth. And I could mess with his food or toys all day long and he wouldn't fuss. But he does have his way of letting me know when he wants something. I was pretty shocked this morning.
China does that once in a while, it is her way of kissing sometimes. Just like when we get an overwhelming urge to kiss our kids or husband. I think that dogs do this to their owners, not meant to hurt us in any way. Do you get what I mean?

He's a new dog to you... right? Just a quick question... when he exhibits an annoying behavior in order to get what he wants, do you give in to him? It sounds like the snap was his way of getting you moving but it may not be appropriate. I'd talk with a trainer on how to stop the behavior since this has you concerned. He may need to learn to "wait" until YOU are ready or find a way to communicate his urgency (if he has to go out) in a different way.
Annie does this a lot when she gets excited. She'll hop up and click her teeth together. I tell her "no", but it was ingrained in her when we got her at age 5. What we do is try to have a toy laying around so she can grab it. She knows to pick up toys when she's excited. Maybe try to have one close to your side of the bed on the floor.
If he does it again I would definitely not respond to it, but wait until he resumes kisses and praise him, and then get up.
If he's like Pooh, he's telling you that he doesn't like the sound of the alarm clock very much!
You know I never thought of that, but you may be right. I know he's very jumpy about the radio, or when I'm playing sims, or anything electronic. I never thought the alarm my be bothering him but it makes sense. After it happened I scolded him and put him outside. He hasn't done it since--though he has taken to waking me up in the middle of the night and trying to get me to play with him. Maybe now he's trying to get me up before the alarm goes off. I'm not very playful at 4:30 though
Oh sims! Haven't played that in forever....lol

The new ones are great. The graphics and controls are so much better than the last generation. I literally have to limit myself or I'll play all night long. It's so fun to micromanage those little morons! Sometimes I create characters just harass the other characters. It's so like me to do that.
You can get get a hacked telescope that will cause a satelite to fall from the sky and squish your sim (in case your tired of your character--or just have a little demon inside that needs to get out every once in a while)

I love playing, but Barkley doesn't. Of course he's never forgiven me for showing him the picture of Bosley on the screen. Any time I take my laptop out now he barks and tries to bite it--silly dog!
I love Sims & Sims 2. They get WAY too addictive though (and expensive because I just have to have all the expansion packs too...) They're a lot of fun when I have time to play them though. :)

Benjamin doesn't like the alarm either! He howels at the clock until it stops! So much for sleeping through the alarm!
If the alarm goes off and my husband (Duncan) doesn't turn it off Sammy will jump on the bed to wake him and then jump off, he would also jump when one of our mobile phones rang. I looks like he doesn't like the sound of the alarm or the phones, changing the ringtones has helped and we just turned the volume of the alarm down.

What is sims?
Sims began as a PC game, but is now available on Xbox as well, and probably other platforms too....

It is one of my favorite games, ultra addictive, and once I get playing I'll do nothing else for DAYS. LOL

I've hacked my Sims 2, with all expansion packs, so many times. Have you tried the new "appliance" the "Insiminator" ?!! LOL  Just wild.

Have you checked out some of the sites that offer hacks, cheats, patches and add-ons?
My favorite is www.modthesims2.com

Do you get to the point where you start to understand simlish? Worse, speak it?! LOL

You know I was wondering the other day if we sound something similar to that to dogs. If so its no wonder they do that quizzical head bobbing from side to side thing that they do!

I'm definately addicted! I wish they would release an expansion pack for sims 2 like the pets expansion pack for the original sims--that would be awesome!
Blue pretty much ignore the alarm, except he knows that's when Jon gets up (I sleep in later) so he comes to the side of the bed and makes his little grunting noises. He hates the printer though. Any time I print something out he gets frantic. Any idea why the printer of all things would freak him out?
My guess would be that it makes a noise that he hears that you don't necessarily hear and he finds it annoying. I got this big ball for Barkley that is a funny shape and bounces and is filled with something that rattles when it moves. He will pick it up in his teeth, whine and carry it someplace where there is padding to sit it down (all my floors are wood), because he can't stand the noise it makes.

Probably the same reason why anything being swept on the carpet freaks Clyde out! I could understand the vacuum (maybe not necessarily to his crazy extent) but then I bought the Swiffer carpet flick thinking if I got rid of the noise he'd relax. Nope, in fact, somehow it's almost worse. Even weirder, it's only on the carpet. If I run a hard floor vacuum that makes noise or the regular Swiffer, he'll come sniff it but that's about it. Lucy just looks at him like he's nuts!
