Do all girls do this??

Strangest thing happened today!!  Sasha was playing with another female puppy today and the next thing you know Sasha started humping the other dog   she wouldn't stop until I finally had to YELL at her. Has anyone else had this experience with there female? Why would she do that??

It's not a sexual thing, it is a dominance thing. Done to dominate the other one she is playing with. Just discourage this behaviour and it will stop. It does happen with a dominant female.
Ok, well then, it's good to know my Sasha is Boss. LOL.
There's a young girl dog at my dogpark who is constantly trying to hump maggie! Maggie seems to be oblivious but I wish the owner would make her dog stop. The owner and the dog bark nonstop!
LOL!!! It's amazing how owners and dogs become alike.... the dog park we took sasha to in the summer had this one lady who brought her PIG to the park and it was just the perfect pet for her.We stopped going to that park...It really annoys me when owners let there dogs have bad habits and don't stop them or just laugh it off.
There's a real mix of people at my park. Some are awesome and have wonderful dogs. Others are clueless and some are downright irresponsible. I've learned to leave immediately when it seems like tensions are rising.

This one particular dog literally barks NONSTOP and the owner spends the entire time yelling her name, which sounds like a bark in itself. we were all amazed this morning to see her leave with the dog still in the park and then the dog followed by climbing over the fence! like that is perfectly acceptable -- a cute trick. seems very ill advised.
I've come to realize at the dog park there are always a few humpers and usually a few "victims"! Unless the "victim" is really upset, frightened or being hurt by the humping behavior, I think it's best for the owners not to get involved. As Lisa mentioned, it isn't sexual, it's just dominance and the dogs usually work it out for themselves. If there is a need to intervene, there's no need to scold the humper, just put him on a leash and walk him away from the victim until he calms down and try again. There are some dogs that are so submissive I swear the other dogs smell them coming before they ever hit the park! Even the regular non-humpers seem feel the need to mount them. If a dog doesn't like it, they usually let the humper know. Clyde has a stop, drop and roll manuever paired with a dirty look to any dog that trys to hump him. I've never seen a dog brave enough to try to hump Lucy...
Since it isn't sexual, would it be ok for me to go hump the leg of an abusive dog's owner?
Why stop at the leg?
Touche'! :rimshot:
I never intervene but it bums me out to have maggie's play interrupted. This one particular dog humps everyone. all the time. barking the whole time. owner yelling the whole time. every day. it sucks.
No, I agree. Barking and being overly obnoxious in general is another story, I was just talking about a little humping being left alone. If you have to scream and yell at your dog constantly in public, you really need to do some training first and then try going back out into public. It really ruins the good time of others, which does stink.
i'm all for a little humping. :D
It's like you could make a TV series out of the dog park "happenings".(look out desperate houswives) It's such a mix of people and behavior. I know humping may not be sexual but I just think it isn't something I want to let my dog do. I think I'm going to create my own dog park for normal people and normal animals ONLY   Although I have to say I just love going to show off Sasha, it seems when people see her they have to come over and make a ~mister mugs~shaggy DA~peterpan dog~ comment.lol. Or ask me if she is a bouvier. I like Ron's Idea..we should all start humping peoples legs...the next time I have company I'll give it a go.
My female sheltie humps any pillow, cushion or rolled up blanket she can find. 8O
A little humpin' goes a long way, but try having a litter of pups that at 6 weeks and younger all decide that if momma ain't around, well.......find the next best thing to nurse on.
I took the little guys and gals, a bundle of 10 to the vet to have their tails docked and to get their shots. Of course they were all on their best behavior so I had to come up with a way to tell the vet my problem.
Please, I mean no disrespect to anyone so don't be offended! I told him that I had a problem, and that for lack of a better term, I have a litter of [homosexual] puppies. SORRY! That they suck and suck on one another until their privates are red and I know it should hurt, but they seem to lay there and enjoy it!   Of course he laughs and I tell him "Don't you have something I can rub on them that tastes bad so they'll quit?"
He gives me the bitter apple or something like it and it did the job! Thank God! I had to constantly seperate those pups unless mom was in there with them. And no, they weren't hungry. I think the one doing the sucking was nursing, but the other one, well.....it didn't budge! If that was domination.....well.....they loved it. Talk about tight lips, when you got ready to part the two, I worried about pulling it off in the other ones mouth! Talk about a domination grip!
That's a riot! I love how random questions give rise to such funny stories.
I'm dying over here! :D :D :D These stories are hilarious! My only humping story is with my Dad's OES, Bentley, who died a few years ago. We were playing ping pong in the basement and all of sudden Bentley jumped on my back. Of course, I thought it was funny as I had given these types of piggy back rides to my female OES, Muffin. All of a sudden my boyfriend at the time, yelled "he's humping you". I looked back and his red crayon was sticking out. EW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Apparently my stepbrothers had taught him that this was funny so Benthley thought it was okay. YUCK!
Dancer and Sky have gone through that as well, and still do anytime one is close to coming into heat. I know it's not a sexual thing, but I think the hormones when they are close to coming into season makes them vie for dominance a little.
 OMG Stacy your story is too funny!!!!!! I can only imagine how embaressing it must have been to think "aww Bently is being so sweet" Only to have him humping you. Thanks for the giggles. My mom has a pom/poodle so it's the size of my foot. When you are at her house you have to be on gaurd because he won't hesitate to hump your foot at any givin time.He used to have a teddy bear but they got rid of it because it became a show when company was over, Buddy would drag it out as if "look at what I can DO!!!!!"
Baylee (female) often does this to my 10 year old son whenever he walks into the room. She latches on and starts thrusting away. I know it's a dominance thing because she thinks she's #2 out of 5 in the family (after me, of course). For some reason, she has targeted my 10 year old son for humping. She doesn't go after the rest of us.

It's hilarious to watch. So funny, in fact, that I sent a digital movie of it to my in-laws.

Bentley is known as The Referee at our dog park. He's not a wrestler (except with Clyde), he's a runner. When no one will run with him anymore he will referee a group of one or two dogs. This means he hovers around them and barks at them. He doesn't get involved unless he feels one dog is "losing" and then he'll kindly intervene.

If he gets bored he will wander around and make sure every single person there gets to pet him.

So far, the barking just makes people laugh. It bothered me at first, but he's happy to fill this vacant position andI haven't seen anyone annoyed by it.
Between this thread and the gas & pee one I have not stopped laughing over the last few days, Oh dear I hope it is not "small things amuse small minds" LOL 8)

LOL - at least it was another dog and not you - Maggie used to try to hump my leg all the time and I was told that she was trying to tell me that she was boss - Letting her know that the behaviour is not acceptable made her stop - - - I guess us females need to feel we are boss and in control in all situations!! lol guess our canine friends are not very different from us. :D

at least that is what my husband says
