Grooming clinics???

Does anybody know if there is such a thing as a dog grooming clinic? I want to try my hand at grooming before I get my puppy. I'm sure my breeder can show me a few things, but I want to just take a weekend out and practice... Especially using a clipper, as I want to maintain my dogs coat at about 2-3" I love that flufy lamb look they have at that length. Anybody have any ideas where I can go to do something like that???

Karen :)

no, but ill let you practice on panda 8O we're used to bad haircuts around here :D
Do you have any petsmart's in your area? I've heard they offer things like that.
I went to one that was offered through the local Kennel Club.
JMO, but I'd stay away from PetSmart/Petco when it comes to serious grooming, like an OES. I think their experience is better suited to simpler coats. I'd try to find someone who had OES experience to make sure you learned proven methods!

On the plus side, your first 6 months are your freebie grooming months so you have lots of time to practice until the time comes when it becomes more vital. Then from there, you always have us to help guide you through!

Agree with this. Really, until the puppy coat change comes, you are just getting your pup use to the brush and the grooming process.
Check with indivdual groomers, some will give private classes
for the basics. We are lucky, a local groomer is opening
a school and in addition to programs for a professional degree,
she will have classes for dog owners!!
8) 8) I am already on the class list
:D You might want to check boarding kennels that also groom. I've been very fortunate in that the best kennel in my area where the owners are Schnauzer breeders are very familiar with OES grooming. They are giving me tips on how to maintain Willoughby's coat Best wishes.Lynda.
Thanks guys, I'll start checking around at the local groomers to see if anyone offers anything. I'd really like to get started prior to the puppy coming, as I'm going to have to TRAIN puppy to sit/lay nicely for grooming... And to do that, I'd prefer to know what in heavens name I'm doing first

And Darcy- I wouldn't mind a trip to AZ right now... what is it out there 80 degrees???? You gonna pay for my airfare??? I'll groom Panda all day long if you want :D

Karen, once you're done with Panda I'll bring Bailey over. You know, you should practice on both just in case you wind up with a boy sheepie. I just want to be sure that you're prepared...

Oh yeah, I'll bring the wine too! Sue
It'd be a regular sheepie grooming party!!!!
Just got my Morgan home from Petsmart grooming...hmm wont be going back!!
