What cool stuff did you get for Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa?

Some might say I'm a little too old to get excited over Christmas presents, but I say we're all still kids at heart. Cool stuff I got for Christmas included SOCK MONKEY flannel pjs and matching slippers (I love sock monkeys), white chocolate candy that has crushed up Oreos in it, a t-shirt that says "Keith Richards for President" and a handmade beaded bracelet with a silver horse in it. I bought my bestest friend a t-shirt from "A Christmas Story" that has the leg lamp on it and it says "FRA-GI-LE. It must be Italian." And of course I bought one for myself.

I know some of you have "Christmas" birthdays so you can include your cook birthday stuff too.

I love presents too! Nothing too exciting this year though, except my Mom did buy me the OES calendar. Sorry, Ron, I did plan to purchase it for the forum proceeds.
Hey Paula, I asked for those sock-monkey jammies myself, but didn't get them. :(
What the heck's a sock monkey!
I got a pair of red University of Wisconsin (my alma mater) slippers. They are all red, black sole with the fancy "W" over the top. Very comfy...

Sock monkeys are stuffed animals that are made from Red Heel socks. When people couldn't afford toys for their kids, they made sock monkey dolls.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sock_monkey

Rockford, Illinois is the official sock monkey capital because the Red Heel Sock Co. had its headquarters there. Two years ago I made myself a sock monkey. His name is Underpants. Don't ask.

Jil, get over to Target. That's where my sock monkey pjs came from.
I still wake up at like 6 a.m. all excited to open presents. James laughs at me and says I'm like a little kid, which I am. I really made out this year! I got a new snowboard, boots and bindings, a sewing machine, 5 movies, season 3 of Family Guy and Buffy the Vampire Slayer on DVD(I know, it's guilty pleasure of mine!), a Bissell upright steam cleaner, a handheld steamer (like the kind that you squirt steam on to clean stuff), 2 computer games, clothes, a Tivo and a few other things. I'm still unwrapping! If anyone's interested in seeing pictures of my bruises from snowboarding yesterday, let me know and I'll post them-- they're incredible!
Holy Cow Batgirl! Jill - I'm going to your house for Christmas next year! :D (I'm serious)

OOH! Paula! I think I'll head to Target after work! Sock Monkey Jammies sound like the perfect thing to wear in front of the TV with my knitting and floofy dogs on New Year's Eve, dontcha think?
Doug got me a George Foreman Grill  I love him dearly but someone needs to tell him you NEVER give a Chritmas present that needs to be plugged in. It's very nice and I'm sure we'll get alot of use out of it but................ kitchen appliances and Christmas just don't go together (but shhhhh don't tell him I said so!!!) 8)

Lol. I begged for my steam cleaners!
I do have to add that I did get what I REALLY WANTED and that was for Doug to quit smoking. It's been two and 1/2 weeks and he hasn't strated back. THAT ALONE is enough of a Christmas present for me!!!! (don't want you to think I'm a TOTAL BRAT!!!)

Was he, perhaps, made from something other than socks?

I think Jill took all of Santa's gifts...What kind of snowboard?
Do they have mountains in Michigan?
Wow Jill, You really made out very nicely.
My hubby got me the Homedics Therapist Select Quad Roller Massaging Cushion, with shiatsi & rolling massage. It is awesome :D
He also bought me 2 lbs of Dunkin Donuts Coffee....yummy
My Aunt & Uncle got me a bunch of clothes, a gold ring, a gold rope bracelet with a gold bead on it, a silver initial pin, a jewlery box designed to keep silver from tarnishing for up to 40 years. They spoil me.
I also got a shirt in NJ that had the name of this pizzeria that I love on the front and it says "Bite This" on the back (How NJ!) with a slice of Pizza under it. I asked the guy if they sell the shirts because there was one hanging up by the menu. He said let me see what I've got. He came back with a white folded paper bag with the shirt in it and handed it to me and said Merry Christmas 8) My old neighbors gave Billy and I a set of 4 hand painted wine glasses. The wife Crystal, who I was very close with gave me a silver ring. She first showed me a ring and asked if it looked familiar....which it did but I could not place where I knew it from. Then she told me that I gave it to her right before I moved to CA. She said I took it off of my finger and gave it to her to remember me by. She had bought this silver ring shortly after to give to me and has been wearing it until that night. I thought that was so sweet.
Tonight I will be getting some Hanukkah presents from Mom & Dad

Elissa, I think you win the prize for the present with the longest name! :D
lol.... I asked my Mom to pick it up from Macy's for Billy because she gets my Grandmother's employee discount because she does all her shopping. So we saved 20% on it.
When I told Mom the name she said e-mail it to me! I will never remember that :P Billy sent me to Macys to try it out. He told me to look for the Homedics one with the really long name 8)
Jil, sock monkey pjs are haute couture for New Years Eve. What are you knitting? I want to make something with eyelash yarn just because it's so soft.

Jill and Elissa win for biggest hauls.
Hmmm all I got was a piece of coal. :(

Then again, I'm the optomisitic type and believe it's a diamond in the rough!!

Marianne and the boys
Paula, TylersMom sent me some cool sock yarn for Christmas, so I think I'll try my hand at that this year while watching a LOTR marathon. I've only made ONE sock in my life, just to see if I could.

I think the making of some hors d'oeuvres is in order, too, for me and the furkids. (Was gonna type horse doovers but didn't want to scare Bob!)
I was feeling uncharacteristically unChristmassy this year and didn't really expect to get anything at all and only bought gifts for my three youngest nephews. But my family/friends suprised me with a Bissell Flip It, 2 cds, 2 books, a tin of toffee from swiss colony (my favorite!) and some cookie cutters and recipes for making doggie biscuits. Plus a cozy blanket and a funky purse for my upcoming birthday. Not too shabby. I definitely received more than I gave (which is not usual for me). I bought myself a vintage silver purse and a cashmere hat and sweater.

We've got quite a few ski resorts all over the state. It's not Colorado or anything but we've got decent elevation to make for ok snow stuff. I'd consider them giant hills more than mountains! This is where we went this time: www.skimtholly.com

It's a Burton board and bindings. I couldn't get the boots that matched my Burton pants because of my giant feet so those are Vans. It's my first board of my own-- I've only rented before. James has been snowboarding for 17 years and so he wanted me to learn. I didn't ask for the snowboard-- it was an optimistic gift on his part that I'd learn if he spent the money! I'd shown interest but it was a huge surprise! I'm definitely still learning so it's still a pretty painful experience by the end of the day.

Ironically I ended up taking James to the hospital last night. Mister Snowboard twisted funny on his board when he was barely moving and somehow fell right on his shoulder that he's injured before. He did some damage to the rotator cuff again so he's pretty miserable.
Anyone get a gift that HAD to be returned?
I did. Hubby bought me a jacket and snow pants....he went back to the store 4 times to get it right only to find out Christmas morning that he bought me a jacket and snowpants LAST YEAR
LOL at least it makes a funny story. Now I get to pick out my gift....hmmm dont even know what to buy myself.
wow...i actually got a good gift from my inlaws...i usually get cheap stationary with birds or something on it....this year they actually gave me a george forman grill....holy cow....made me look bad when i told my mom the stuff that they usually give me...she didnt believe it...go figure.
Dont even GO there with the inlaws LOL
this year they gave hubby and I ....are you ready to hear this?..... CHEESE
and it isnt even REAL food...its PROCESSED cheese. The only good thing about this gift is when I tell someone I can hardly talk I am laughing so hard. My sister said "CHEESE?"...."Cheese?"..."you mean Cheese you EAT?" I couldnt even answer I was laughing so hard I was crying

One year I got an orange tea towel, hubby got a drill set. He was so upset they only gave me a tea towel that he took back his drill set and bought me something from my favorite store... a Christmas tea set.
And they were MAD we had to NERVE to spend Christmas with my family. When we got there on the 26th and said "merry Christmas" we were told "Christmas is OVER" My 12 year old was so upset she doesnt even want to visit them next year.
We had a nice Christmas/Hanukkah.......

We had fun watching Bogart open his presents--
a toy quacking duck and his favorite treats.
He gave us kisses all day long, seems like opening
presents is a big hit with him.

We are going to get a DVD/VHS player after the holidays,
we couldn't decide on which one so we are still researching.

I got a dance dvd series for flamenco and Bob is
getting a new flight simulator software.

We'll hit the after Christmas sales for some clothes.

Keeping it simple this year, we are still in the Twilight Zone
of home repair

:D

That is hilarious! Inlaws, UGH! My MIL usually buys me things that can't be returned or she doesn't keep the receipt. I'm always really excited for the holidays, but this year kind of bombed. I know it's supposed to be about the giving, not the receiving...but at least think about the person you are buying for and what they like.

My husband is the only one who stuck to the formula. If you pick something from Stacy's holiday gift list that she starts in Nov, you can't go wrong. I must have had 20 things on it, half of which were gift cards to stores I like. Not a single family member asked him what I might like for the holidays. I'm really not one who likes surprises. Steve bought me windpants & socks. Exciting, huh? Something tells me he was out today purchasing a new computer, but I'm not positive.

This year, my MIL bought be an ugly PartyLite centerpiece for candles and 6 blue candles that smell like spices. She knows I always sneeze and complain about the zillion candles she has lit in her house. Why the heck would she buy me candles? And I can't even bring it back because she must have ordered it some time ago. Then we do a grab bag with Steve's siblings. My youngest SIL is now engaged to a loser who never even comes to our Xmas celebrations. However, he is included in the grab bag. Guess who got me this year...the fiancee! He doesn't have a dime to his name so my MIL bought me some ugly cards and a cookbook. So while everyone else gets an $80 grab bag gift, I get junk. More stuff I can't bring back because she bought it at the holiday gift fair at her work.

Anyway, my mom usually knows what I like but she'll often buy what SHE likes. However, I don't know what she was thinking this year. Once again, she knows I can't stand the smell of perfume. However, she must have been bored one day and was watching QVC and bought a Philosophy gift set. Supposedly this is latest in perfumes and body lotions and Oprah had it on her show. I have no idea what it is because I don't care for that stuff. She kept asking, why can't you wear the perfume, why can't you wear it? I left that package behind so she could hopefully return it and buy herself something. She also gave me the OES calendar & a turtleneck.

I did like the wad of cash Steve's Grandpa sent to him. That will cover the cost of 1/2 a new front door this year!

There's a few more nights of Hanukkah. Maybe Hanukkah Harry will bring something good!
I got my Danita painting framed for Christmas.(from my mum) It was pretty much the only thing I really wanted. (aside from a new alarm clock with green numbers)

I will take a photo of it on the wall and post it when I figure out WHERE to hang it up.

~Katie. :-)

I got a brass sign for the front door that says Cead Mile Failte from my daughter, and of course the best present of all--Barkley!
Dale and I didn't go crazy with each other this year, cause we bought some jewelry while on our cruise and said that would suffice for our birthdays AND most of Christmas! So all I got him was one of those super-duper ladders, a couple of sweaters and a vibrating pillow for his back in the car.

He got me a sweater from a store that mainly caters to 20-somethings because he saw it in the window and "really liked it" (even though I'm not 20-something OR built like the mannequin, so of course it's going back). When he said he bought me clothes, I just looked at him blankly and said - you mean you haven't learned yet that you can't buy me clothes??? We go through this just about every year - he buys, I return.

He also bought me 3 tickets to the Philadelphia Flower Show in March, which I thought was a pretty neat gift! :D We used to go every year, but when they changed locations and the ticket price jumped, we stopped going. So this was a good gift - now just have to decide who to take with me!

And the thing I wanted the most, I got - a new digital camera. It's an Olympus SP-500UZ. Takes great pictures! Now I just have to set up the cable and stuff to the computer so I can download the pics I've taken. Too cool!

But our kids really surprised us. Since they "forgot" our 30th anniversary in October, and since my birthday is in November and Dale's is in December, they combined all that with Christmas and bought us a week-end getaway at a bed and breakfast in Cape May, NJ! :clappurple: :clappurple: Hopefully the weather lets us go - it's in the middle of January. But isn't that a neat idea? My daughter outdoes herself every year. Spencer just sits back and says, "How much money do you want?" and lets his little sister do the work. Must be nice to have a personal assistant to do your shopping, huh? Anyway, it was a great surprise, and we can't wait to go!

So all in all, I guess I made out pretty well!

Chris
Chris - take me, take me! And Marianne! The Philly Flower Show is supposed to be fantastic!

Jil, did you go by Target and check for sock monkey pjs?????? And you can say "horse doovers" in front of Bob--he doesn't take things like that seriously.

You guys got some seriously cool stuff. I'm jealous of Dale's sooper dooper ladder--is it the kind that you can make into 10 different configurations? And Stacy, Philosophy stuff is indeed the hottest thing. You should have taken it home and exchanged it. QVC is reallyreally good about customer service. Or you could have given it to me!!! LOL.

I feel bad that I didn't buy Bob any pony presents. I am thinking about making him a new saddle pad though.
No, I spent an hour at Media Play buying an obscene number of DVDs that were 40% off because they're going out of business and then I was so late getting home for the dogs I felt bad so didn't go across the street to Target. Dumb move, they would have waited another 30 minutes, I think.

I'll have to go out tonight after the trainer comes.

I hear that Philosophy stuff is good too, but I've never tried it.

Hey, I need one of those ladders . . .
----------------------------
Just got back from Target and not a single monkey sock to be found, however, I did find the Holy Grail, the one thing that was meant for me and me alone, and Paul gets all the credit . . . .

Flamingo Flannel Jammie Pants!!!

My two favorite things in the world (okay, you know what I mean)!!

Plus I found a pair of PJs with Snow Globes on them! (I have a fan-tas-tic collection because anyone who travels at work brings me back one - my collection spans several jobs.)

So Paula - you are the Girl Of The Day and get not one, but TWO gold stars!!
nice warm sweaters....mmmm cuddly.

If Mom can't locate the receipt & doesn't want to use the products herself, I'll let you know. We can meet somewhere and I can give it to you. I'm totally serious! :P
Hmm, I haven't gotten my gift yet and didn't get anything under the tree from hubby or kiddos. :( The ILs got me a new coat and a sweater. My BIL got me a new watch. I got a bath set from FIL and step-MIL. Great-grandparents gave us money. I haven't seen my parents yet to exchange gifts with them (going to tomorrow).

We just got the kiddos a new bunk bed set, so that blew my bedroom suite budget, lol I have no idea what hubby will end up getting me, but it better be nice since he ended up getting a XBOX 360 for Christmas. ;) Honestly, I don't care much if he gets me anything. The boys were excited and happy with all their gifts, and that's what matters most to me. :)
I got mostly things I needed. 3 T-fal frying pans . A mixer which is good because mine broke two days before x'mas and I needed one to mash the potatoes Christmas day. My kids bought my husband and I gift certificates to eat at Red Lobster and Garfields. I also got a printer scanner for my computer and a new pitchfork. I really wouldn't have cared if I didn't get anything. I love Christmas the lights and decorations and spending time with family and friends. I think sometimes your so focused on getting people gifts everyone is to busy and you don't get to spend much quality time with them around the holidays. I know I wasted alot of time on my days off trying to find just the right gift for everyone when i could have been spending time with them.
I think I'm getting the best Christmas gift yet, I got home yesterday and Doug had bought all the lumber for the window sills and trim for the windows in the living room. My living room has 3; 9'x4' windows without any woodwork. We've been in the house a year (it was a semi "do it yourself project") and I'd about given up on ever having REAL windows   He got one finished yesterday and plans on getting the other two up this weekend. The only bad thing was I had to take the Christmas tree down last night so he could get at the window

Our contractor did all the outside work and we did the inside, by the time we did the wiring, sheetrock, mud, paint and ceiling we were absolutely burned out. It was Christmas last year. I put the tools away for Christmas with EVERY intention of getting them back out after the holidays and somehow that NEVER happened  .

You can bet I'll be posting pictures :D My Dougals is sooooooooo talented :D :D (I have to forgive him for the george forman grill!!)
Hey Ginny, I got a george foreman grill...i havent used it yet, but im excited about it....i think im more excited because my inlaws gave it to me and they usually get me junk......what should i cook first?????
I've done marinated chicken breasts and salmon so far. I do like it, it just wasn't my idea of a "romantic" Christmas gift!!! I love to grill, use my gas grill outside in the dead of winter when it's below zero. Doug had a steak in it the other night and said it was good. I am going to grill some vegies tonight. It came with a cookbook which I hope to get a chance to look at today.
Romantic gift????? Whats that????? Only been married for under 7 yrs and my gift was a new 32'' tv for the bedroom.....hmmm....romance or the Simpsons???? I dont even want to go there..........
Darcy wrote:

LOL Awesome! I'd go for the Simpsons! What's romance anymore? Hubby says he lost his romance on his 60 mile round trip commute to work!
My FAVORITE Christmas gift EVER was the year Doug gave me a Nylon kite that looked like a butterfly and we went kite flying in January :D

MY WORST EVER gist was the year my EX gave me a balance beam scale (like the one in the Dr's ofice).... It was the year my daughter was born and he was telling me to lose weight  Just one of the many reasons he's my EX!!
What a jerk!
Brian has never been really romatic at Christmas...but birthdays he usually knocks the ball out of the park...one year He took me to a resturant in Scottdale (Italian) that had a "lake", they had gondola rides and he gave me a gondola charm for my bracelet...another year he surprised me with a trip to Vegas (I had never been) and gave me a dice charm for the bracelet....so xmas, I dont get upset...but now we are going to watch the Simpsons movie theater style....Ill never fall asleep..lol.....oopps...did I say fall asleep???? 8O
HAHAHAHA!!! We have a teeeny tiny tv in the bedroom. I REFUSE to have anything any bigger (it was a huge concession to even let THAT one in!!)
