What age to transition food

I was curious to find out at what age some of you switched your sheepie puppy from puppy food to adult food. Lily is now 4 months old and she is on Iams puppy food. She doesnt seem to be eating much these past days so I started wetting down the kibble thinking it may be beacuse she is teething and the kibble are too hard. But at what age should I put her on adult food. I know that my moms OES transferred over at 7 months because the puppy food just had way too much energy in it for him. Any suggestions as to what the appropriate time is (on average)?

It depends on the dog really. If she is not eating much I would definitely not switch her yet. I think puppy food til 9 months to a year is most common. Some of the males grow faster and need to be slowed down so it would depend on the growth rate.
We transitioned Bogart at 11 months so by one year old
he was on adult food. We did the transition slowly so
he would adjust to the new adult food.
We kept him on the adult large breed formula (Nutro)
for a few months.

We changed once again to Canidae which he is still on and
doing well.

Check with both your vet and your breeder for their input on
the best time to transition.

Good luck and keep us posted!!

Puppies go through growth spurts where they will eat more at some times and less at others. As long as she is eating at least 3 cups a day I wouldn't worry about it, unless she doesn't get her appetite back in a little while. It also depends on her weight. Check what the bag says, and use that as a guide.
Bosley is going to be 9 months old ( I can't believe it) and he was still eating 5/6 cups a day of Nutro Large Breed Puppy, but not really looking forward to eating, and I started to feel some fat over his ribs. I changed him to regular Nutro Puppy, give him the same amount and he gobbles it down, but looks for more, which I don't give him. He is starting to lose the little layer of fat, and that is good. He has always been a big eater, but only weighs a little over 60 pounds, so I don't want to over-feed, and at 60 pounds he is not really a large dog. Besides, a fat dog is so unhealthy, and he has a grade 2 heart murmer, too.
At four months would let her eat as much as she wants to eat, but monitor it. She may not be getting as much excercise, too, which would slow her natural need for calories.
We transitioned Clyde from 10 months to a year with no problems at all. Though he'll eat anything (he has a stomach of cast iron-- nothing bothers him!) he's not a big eater. 4 cups at the most and some days not even that. Despite the fact that I leave the food out for him all the time, his favorite time to eat is between 12:30 and 1 a.m. He's weird.
Lily only gets about a cup and a half a day divided over 2 meals. She was on 3 meals at 1/4 cup but she started ignoring her lunch about 2 weeks ago and so I switched her to 2 meals but increased it a bit. I feed her at 7 am but wont eat until 9 or 10 and only eats about 1/4 cup, leaves the rest till about 3:30 and then she gets dinner between 5-6 pm but wont eat that until 7 or so or not at all and what she does eat it only about 1/4 cup. Today I saw that she was missing her two front teeth and so I wetted her kibble with some warm water and let them soak a bit. She ate everything this morning and evening so that seems to help. Right now she is 27lbs so she is on target pretty much. She also gets stuffed kong in the early afternoon and evening so she doesnt drive us crazy and I fill that with kibble on the bottom and some natures balance log so that it doesnt come out right away. I think she is doing better with the wetted down food so we will try that and see how long that goes for. She definitely is teething though, she just wants to eat my hands and everything squishy she can put her mouth on. I try to give her soft squishy toys for now cause she wont touch the hard ones... to painful I think... anyway, thanks for everyones advice.
At 4 months and 27 lbs she should be eating around 3 cups a day. If she seems healthy though she may just have a slower metabolism and do fine with it.
We started the switch with Barney at 9 months...and finished by about 10 months...
Lily is very healthy and full of energy. She plays constantely and is always into something and loves her walks and runs at the dog park. I dont think she has a medical issue though so thats good. She might just have that slow metabolism that Willowsprite spoke of. As long as she is eating whatever she can, I feel comfortable leaving her at what she is right now.
