Eye Opener

Hi All

I have not been on this forum for very long, but I have read many posts etc.
I as a dog breeder & show person I was under the impression that I was well informed on how the other half lives. This meaning people who buy my dogs, those who buy from others etc. those who rescue....I had no clue as to what you all go through.
As a breeder I stand behind my dogs, give people all the info. I can, I'm here for them to call, e-mail with problems, I try to help solve, take dogs back if it doesn't work out. If a medical condition arises that my vet or I missed I help them out by paying for part or all, depending on what it was etc.
I didn't realize that so few people will help the new pet owner. They take the money and run.
I just had to share this with everyone.

Thanks
Barbara

People get taken advantage of so often from what I see. This has been a good experience for me.
This just all blows my mind.
So many questions that a breeder could answer in a matter of minutes would help the new pet owner......

You are a responsible breeder, Barb. It's hard to imagine when you are a responsible person, how many people are out there that just don't care. They take in the $$$ and send you on your way. I would like to think that there are many more breeders who love their dogs and breed/show out of love instead of for $$$. Responsible and respected breeders aren't in it for the $$$ as they can't make a ton of it doing what they love. Many would do anything to make sure their babies and new owners are safe.
Thanks for being a responsible breeder Barb! :D

And welcome to the forum!
You are absolutely right, not nearly enough practice responsible and ethical breeding.
The ones who don't shouldn't be allowed to at all.
Barbara it opened my eyes too, I still can't get over some of the stories, rescues, people sold puppies without any help etc. etc. Nice to know you take responsibilty for all that you have bred. A lot don't that is what I have learnt from this forum and it is nice to know that they can come here for support from people who are willing to help/advise no matter how big or small the question/problem is. :D
I think this forum is so valuable to provide information to people that generally wouldn't know what to look for in terms of a reputable breeder.

It's also linked many of us via the net across many countries and interlinked us with one another so that the rescue network reaches farther and wider than even a decade ago.

This forum was instrumental in allowing me to being able to help Panda my special boy from a puppymill in Hong Kong and through the members, here have him brought to my home in Canada.

It caused all of us to be aware of Summit and be on the lookout for him and to the eventual return to his boy and his family.

It's made many of us aware of the horrible conditions of puppy mills, dogs that need medical help, dogs that are in kill shelters, or some that need to find a new home for their sheepie, because of a family emergency.

It's bonded many of us sheepie owners where we cheer each other on and offer congratulations for those in the show world or an accomplishment from a rescue.

Yup, I'm such a fan of this forum and I could go on and on about the merits and importance of this place. Hats off to Ron and Joan for starting this forum, you guys do such a service to sheepies all around the world!

Sad but true, many breeders are in it for the money. I was lucky enough to have a wonderful breeder, we became good friends and I could rely on Margaret for answers to all my questions. You should be proud that you are among the good ones, your puppy owners are lucky to have you.
