medical or behavior:einy acting strange

hello

einstein is actting very subdued. he drank no water all weekend but all his fuctions seem ok. i rang the vet but she says only bring him in if he start to act ill.

at the moment i can't get him to drink out of his water bowl (it a stainless steel only ) only out of his tea cup (i know crazy that my pup has his own tea cup) he won't drink the tap water (not that i blame him its horrid ) but bottled water for your dog is that ok? i'm gonna get him a plastic or ceramic bowl today and see if that helps.

he eatting fine but ever since we started getting the christmas decorations out hes been really submissive running from everything like the duster etc.
could it be that the decoration remind him of his first home ? this is his first christmas with us he would have been 6 weeks old last christmas at the people who breed him he went to another home at 8 weeks but the took him back coz they did not want him can things that happen that young affect him?

sometime he seems fine playing with isaac and bring us hes ball to play fetch (which he can play non stop for a good 40 mins) other times he won't come when called wanders around all misserable and stars in to space or just naps all day i just don't know what to do?

lots of games and hugs semm to cheer him up for a bit but its like hes suddenly not a puppy and more ( not that that stops him chewing my shoes lol)

sorry the post is such an essay to read but mummys gone on when their worried well this one does

thanks for listerning

I would definitely give him bottled water if he will drink it. Maybe get your water tested? He may know there is something in it that shouldn't be....
Try giving him ice cubes as well, going off food is one thing, but going off water is far more dangerous, and a lot faster too.
If he doesn't start drinking water soon, I'd get to the vet, and maybe get a new vet.

I think it is quite possible that he may be intimidated by the Christmas things. Maybe not from his past, but just that it is a big change in his enviroment. If he is feeling stressed if could throw him off his feed.

I think it is so cute that he has his own tea cup. But it probably doesn't let you give him very much water at a time. Mojo did not like his steel water bowl, he could see himself in it and would bark at that other sheepie in there. Bottled water is fine. If you wouldn't drink the tap water, I wouldn't give it to the Einstein either.

I know it is hard. Mojo went through a spell awhile back. We worry about them so. But like the vet said, if he is eating, drinking and bodily functions are working you just have to watch and wait it out.
things looking a bit better i've come to the conclusion that hes also scared of the sheepie in his bowl but hes has a metal bowl since day one so i could be a phase (he keeps walking up to it really slowly looking in it then running away)

i got him to drink two and half tea cups of water today will keep trying but i will walk him to pet store tomorrow to get him a new waater bowl

hes still subdued but we will keep working on that he might just be felling a bit under the weather as all his uprights including the baby have colds

hopefully things are looking up but we will keep a close eye on him

Barney does that sometimes too. All of a sudden, he'll get scared and start walking really slowly and almost shaking towards whatever he's decided he's scared of at the moment (sometimes it's his bed, sometimes it's his food dish, sometimes it's a shoe  )

I can't figure it out either. Hopefully Einy's just going through a weirdo phase too...
Try filling a water bottle with tap water then refridgerating it...Panda only likes really cold water....and she is scared of the Christmas tree...she races past it....
Hi Zoey,
Maybe Einstein is worried that you will leave again? My cockers did this....it took a few weeks to get back into it.

Hi,

Poor Einie!

I remember once reading that pets (especially cats) can taste the chlorine in our tap water and one should let the water run for two whole mins before filling up a water bowl for pets. Often they like to let the water stand for a while so the chlorine evaporates before they drink it. Much like one lets a fish tank stand with water for 24 hrs before adding fish. Perhaps it's that? The metal bowl may also give a metallic taste to the water as well. Could be? As dogs have a sense of smell far superior to our human noses.

I think it's super cute too that he has his own tea cup!

Hope he is his cheery self again soon.
