Any recommendations on New England Breeders?

Our family is looking to get a puppy. I could use puppyfind, but am a little leery. I haven't heard back from Tarja on any breeders so I figured I would put it out to the general public.

thanks

I would not recommend puppyfind, please give Tarja some time, maybe try again to make sure she got your email oescrazy2@yahoo.com
Trust me, waiting a day or two for recommendations could mean the difference between a happy healthy pup from a reputable breeder, or a mountain of vet bills and heartache.
Yeah, I have tried all of her addresses and PM, and even AIM. I am sure I am being a pest.

Just hoping others out there might have some experiences. I am reticent to call the local Rescue place for a breeder recommendation.
You may want to try one of the regional people.

Scroll all the way to the bottom.
The eastern region was pretty quick to reply, but do give them a few days.

Best of luck!
Tarja should get back to you. Don't lose faith, patience grasshopper, patience.

And rescues can sometimes tell you who the bad breeders are so don't discount them as a source of information. If someone is out there selling puppies with health problems or they are unwilling to rehome one of their dogs themselves, the rescue would know.

There are tons of OES people in your general area so one way or another you'll get some answers on where to get a good puppy. Even if there's none within driving distance, a wonderful puppy can be shipped to you. Not getting to pick your own puppy shouldn't preclude you from getting a spectacular dog. A good breeder can know what would be better for you than you do.

I would also caution against puppyfind. There may be some good breeders on there but it's too hard to figure it all out. This is a commitment that you'll live with for 15 or so years it's not a chance you want to take.

Ahh, thank you.... that worked.

No such thing as being a pest when looking for a reputable breeder. I'd rather hear from you 100 times than you ending up buying from a puppy mill. :rimshot:
Hello! I am desperately looking for a reputable pug breeder...I either find one extreme, (a breeder who answers few questions but very well priced, to show breeders who want 1,000+ for a puppy)....is there any in between???

I don't think any well bred puppies of any breed go for under $1000 anymore. Don't forget, you get what you pay for. Pugs can have a lot of health issues so it's imperative that you get one from a reputable breeder to help cut down on the chances of future issues.

My experience has been that there are unscrupulous breeders of all types.

Whichever the source of your puppy, you should read up on the breed, so you know which important traits to look for. The most important thing is that you meet the dam and sire, make sure that puppy and parents are healthy, well cared for, and well socialized animals with a nice temperament. Make multiple visits, if possible, before you settle on your choice.

I wouldn't be particularly concerned about meeting the dam or sire if you're dealing with a reputable breeder who studies pedigrees and has a sound breeding program going. If you've seen their other dogs, you can get a good idea of what type of dogs a particular breeder has. Often, as part of their breeding programs, breeders bring outside dogs from other kennels into their line but do not own them. They may even have artificially inseminated their dogs with a deceased dog's semen that was frozen. If you trust the breeder, they'll know better about if the dam and sire were a good match for breeding than you will anyway! (Not you specifically, that's a general "you.")
I wouldn't say there aren't any good breeders w/puppies under $1000. It depends on the breed. I know for certain that pugs can be found for less than 1000. It may be harder to distinguish responsible breeders from bybs in the lower price range but recent economics change everything! (I know b/c my husband & I also breed pugs). At this point in time, if you aren't breeding pugs exclusively for the show ring, you have to take a monetary loss if your top priority is finding the right home for your pups. Unfortunately, most families are crunched for cash and don't see healthy puppies as their top priority. I tend to be very choosy about placing my pups so I still haven't sold my one available puppy. I dropped his price (bybs in my area are selling pups for 100 - 200!!!) into the 650 range but people don't appreciate what has gone into his breeding, his unique genetics (he's apricot) or the care he's received. Looks like we're keeping another puppy! :-)
