Limping

My 5 month puppy has been limping quite a bit for no aperant reason. I'm guessing it's just growing pains. But I keep reading things about hip displaysia...Should I be worried?

Being the worrying mom I am, I would go to the vet to have her checked out.
Me too...but Im a nueotic sheepie mom...limping is not good, no matter what.
Unless she was playing too hard I would certainly take her to the vet. Limping is a sign of many things so better to be safe.
Ditto a vet check is warranted, she may have been hurt when you didn't notice...
I hope it goes away quickly.
Yeah... PLEASE go to the vet and get a professional opinion. You may find it's just a pulled muscle or injury that just needs a couple of days of downtime to heal. You can also ask if your pup is growing too rapidly which can cause problems down the road.

We adopted a 10 1/2 month old sheepie in September that has severe hip dysplasia. Simple meds currently control Panda's pain allowing her to run and play with the others. If the vet thinks it may be HD he/she will probably recommend an x-ray. If this is the diagnosis, Cosequin DS tablets would probably be prescribed to help provide cushioning of the joints.

Note that one of the most promising surgerical treatments is based upon age and joint condition: triple pelvic osteotomy (TPO). It is said to offer the best future for the dog however it must be done during the growth stage and when no arthritis is present. This leaves only a small window of opportunity before you have to go to the next surgical option (IF surgery is ever even required). Panda arrived with x-rays from August when she was 9 months old... they showed that arthritis was already setting in and by 10 1/2 months TPO was no longer an option for her.

Note that NOT all dogs with HD require surgery... it's based on how the dog responds to his/her disease, not the x-rays according to Dr. Flo with Michigan State University.

Please let us know how your baby does. Best wishes to you both.
