Maggie Update

Well, I don't want to jinx it, but things are going pretty well. At home, she is pretty quiet and agreeable. Biggest challenge is her desire to chase the cat and eat his food (which is on the counter). I keep her on a leash and she has to follow me around. But we can all enjoy a pretty quiet evening of tv in the den. Chumley and Maggie spend too much time repositioning themselves to be closest to me. Miles (the cat) constantly wants to be in my lap, which is just too tempting for Maggie at this point. She is pretty hardheaded and inattentive but she knows sit, down, and come (when she feels like coming). We are working on stay. Outside, she is a nervous nellie and I have to hold the leash tight or else she bolts and spins with every noise. (I think I need to work with her on the leash at home so she understands what to do in a more secure environment.) At the dog park, she loves to play with puppies and is really cute and bouncy. She is very afraid of men and barks at people in the distance, but last night she was friendly to a man who was throwing a rope toy to his dog. He was very nice and encouraging to her. She would run towards the toy but never really came close to getting it. Still, it looked like she liked the idea of the game. I am exhausted by the new routine, but I remember feeling this way when I got Chum and I know it will pass when I get used to it. All in all, I think this was a good idea. . .They do look adorable together. . .

Very nice! It sounds like your routine should be back to a semi-normal state soon. (As normal as it can get with these guys. )

Be careful, 2 turns into 3 awfully quickly!
Yay! Sounds like you have a good schedule there for your puppers! A tired dog is a good dog! LOL That is wonderful about how well things are progressing! Thanks for the update :D
Yea! Keep us posted on the progress. Chumley is behaving herself, right? If I remember correctly, she is kind of like Annie. She didn't play well with other pooches. I'm keeping my eyes open to the possibility of another OES in the future (within a year). Can't believe it, but hubby is actually on board. He said 2 is the max. To me that's an invitation for another! :D

Valerie, I'm really happy to hear that Maggie is settling in nicely. It will take a bit for you to get yourself and all the furkids settled into your new routine. But, you're right, before long it'll be "old hat" and everyone will be comfortable.

Congrats! :D
This is such great news, Val! Can't wait to meet them both!
Chris
Great news, and it sounds like you are doing a great job with her. :)
Maggie really is coming around nicely. Being a 1 year old, she has tons of energy but now I've learned that she loves to play with mini-soccer balls and also will pee on command -- good stuff! She's very sweet and playful with other dogs at the park. She circles the perimeter like a good herding dog and loves to play chase games. I'm keeping her on the lead in the house and she is following me around nicely and happy to sit at my feet. Chumley is behaving nicely too. Chum is an excellent role model on the leash and for basic commands (sit, down). At this point, they both know they have to sit when we leave the house (so I have time to turn around and lock the door). That's huge progress for Maggie. Maggie pulls on the leash but it is getting better.
They were both invited to my brother's for thanksgiving and both were very good. Maggie is quiet in the car except when she sees pedestrians or people like the gas station attendants. Then she barks bloody hell. . . She also freaks out when anyone sneezes. We all laughed so she would see how silly it is. Chum remains a nutcase in the car. She worked herself into such a lather that she puked when she got out yesterday. In less than a week, I'd say we've come a long way! It is definitely a huge commitment but it sure is nice to have two snuggly sheepies at my feet (and a kitty in my lap).

:D
I had a Collie that went bananas when I sneezed. He could be sound a sleep at the other end of the house; if I sneezed he'd come running and jump on me. It got so, if he got loose and wouldn't come when I called, I fake a sneeze and he'd run right to me. :D
That's hilarious! Good thinking! Maggie is really settling in quickly. She is such a honey. Her manners are improving and Chumley is being a great role model. She's making lots of friends at the park -- both people and dogs. SHe had a bath and blowdry today and she is so soft and fuzzy. All animals are sleeping peacefully around me. It is wonderful.
Valerie,

I had been waiting in anticipation to find out how Maggie is doing. Good news!!! I'm so glad to hear she is settling in and how is Chumley girl?

Awww valerie, that is so nice to hear of maggies progress and chumley and her getting along. It is so nice to have two as they are great company for each other. You have done a great job in the short time you have had her. Maggie has found a wonderful furever home and family.
Look forward to hearing of her progress over the coming months & seeing a picture of your newest fur baby. :D
Awww CHumley is a honey. SHe is acting a bit sad and unsure, rather moody, but is being a pretty good girl about the whole thing. Not aggressive except in specific disputes over particular items. But right now, Maggie is chomping a bone right in front of Chum and it seems ok. I'm giving Chumley lots of love but trying to stay upbeat and not let her guilt me with her doleful looks. I can't say that she's psyched but at this point, she seems accepting and that is pretty good for only a week. Chum is such a sweetie.
