Chummie is a Svelte 77 Pounds!

Her diet is working!! I can kinda sorta feel her ribs. You may recall that she was 90 pounds when I got her in July. She looks great!!

That's great news! Svelte at 77 eh? How tall is she? 77 seems big to me for a female still, but she may be just taller than what I'm used to. Just curious....
Svelte may be an exaggeration

She's a big girl. vet says 75 is her ideal weight. she could maybe go to 70 but I think less would be too skinny. I'll measure her later.
Yay! Congrats Chummie and Val! Can't wait to compare these two girls in a few weeks. Drez is about 70 lbs and just about perfect (except for her hips, of course).
Chris
Good for Chumley!!!!! :D
Congratulations Val and Chumley, how tall at shoulder is your girl. It is a long time since we used imperial measures in Australia. Ok how much in Kilos roughly is 75lbs?
I measured her. She is 26 inches tall at the shoulder and also 26 inches long from shoulder to bum. 77 pounds is equivalent to 35 Kgs. She is definitely not skinny at 77 but she looks good. Robust and not slouchy. I am going to try to get her to lose a bit more but I am very pleased with her progress to date.
Wow, 26 inches is quite tall for a female! She sounds like she is doing great, I was jsut curious about her height, we don't see many big oes in Canada.
Really? I have no idea since I have no experience with other sheepies, male or female. I was starting to worry that maybe she would still be considered porky at 77#. Her build seems a bit on the husky side. She has a very deep chest. It is a big change to be able to feel her ribcage. When I got her, she was fully padded.

How tall are yours?
Good job! :clappurple:
Chumley is getting her girlish figure... gotta work on mine someday soon. :?
Yeah Chum and Val! That is good news. She'll be lookin' good for bikini season next year

My parents' sheepie Maggie is about 76 pounds. Her highest weight was 80 or 81 and we were told to get her to lose a few, so 76 seems to be about her stable weight. She's definitely not skinny at 76 pounds, but you can feel her ribs (if you try!)...she is just a couch potato. If she wanted to work out, she'd get better results...

Here she is...you can't really tell how skinny or fat she is, but I wanted to show her off...and, since she's wearing her Charger's bandana, I thought it was a good time to include this photo. The other photo I had of her made her look chubby, so I thought I would stick with this. I think Chum and Mags are about the same age...8...

Congrats to you & Chumley, Val! That's great news!

It's about 34 kilos-- 1 pound is about equal to 2.2 kilos.

Actually 2.2 pounds equals 1 kilo :)
Thanks everyone!

She actually looks alot like Chumley (although with long hair). She's very pretty!! Chum will be 9 on December 21.
Yea! Chumley looks great! I think the weight is probably about right. Annie ways between 72-75 pounds and is 8 yrs old. When we got her 2 yrs ago she was a little over 90 pounds. The vet said she was on her way to obesity and couldn't spay her until she lost some weight. Well, with meausured cups of food and a few short walks a day, she quickly lost the weight. She looks stocky with her fur, but small when the fur is shorter in the summer. Right now she looks like a poplar bear.
yay that's great! sseems like the average size for a female is 65-75lbs? whate about for a male?
Valerie, the weight sounds good! My youngest girl is 24 " at shoulder and her show weight is 32Kg's so chums sounds like she is just about right in her new slimmer figure, also take into consideration the boning, some OES are more thick set in the bones so this makes them heavier without being fat, ie they will weigh more due to chunkier boning. Our breed standard does not have any emphasis on height the standard here in Autralia is "22 inches and above for dogs, slighty less for bitches". In our standard SIZE does not matter, balance is what is important ie same height at shoulder to length of back. Well done again on chumleys trimmer figure :clappurple: She is certainly a well balanced girl with her measurements :D
YEAH CHUMLY!!! I think if she were at Weight Watchers she'd get a key chain or something!!!

 Just measured Tasker and at 27.5 inches he weighs 90lb........ he's big boned..........................

Dancer is only 23 inches at the shoulder. She has a small bone structure though, so at 55lbs she is actually a little chunky. I can feel her ribs but I have to poke around for them LOL

Sky is almost 25 inches at the shoulder (I just measured her and had to do it twice because I didn't think she was that big! LOL) She is at an ideal weight I think, but she is young so I'm sure she will still fill out over the next year.

Both of my dogs need to be exercised more. Muscle weighs more than fat, and I think mine need to tone up. Their muscle tone could definitely be better.

Sorry Tasker... we're very proud of you, no matter what you weigh.
Well, after picking up gigi from her foster family, i learned chummie aint so svelte afterall. . . she's got at least five - seven more pounds to lose. his dogs did look extremely gaunt, but he says low weight is the reason they have such long lives. one of them was 16. . . chum has a soft, meaty quality that i love though. . . but we are still working on the diet.
Having a dog in older age not so weighty does help prolong the life span. Less pressure on there joints so much more easier for mobility when they are in their golden years. Two years ago I had an oldie that kept loosing her back legs, ie she got up and lost balance and would splay at the back legs and go down like a ton of bricks. She went on a diet, lost weight and started glucosamine supplement and was a new girl, getting around with no problems till I lost her at 14. Having them slightly lighter just helps the mobility in older age, she had a new lease of life by being strict with her weight. :D
