Does anyone have an OES with children? I have heard that OES are very good with kids. We just went through a bad kennel dog experience with an airedale mix that had a problem with my 6 year old and continued to visciously growl and snap at her unprovoked drawing blood a few times on the face and hands. Finally had to take the 8 month old puppy back for fear he would hurt my 6 year old or our 18 month old.

How are OES with children? My children have been around dogs and are very repectful with dogs. The 18 month old spends daycare with a bichon and my 6 year old knows the rules and is excellent with dogs.

My question is if an OES is good with children?

There is a much younger female puppy around 12 weeks old that is available for adoption and we thought a younger puppy would socialize into our family much better....
Hi!

I have an 8 month old OES and four children- 9 yrs, 6 yrs, and twins almost 4 yrs. The OES is very tolerant of children and is described as a great family dog. HOWEVER, they are big dogs and they love to play, and with an 18 month old, it could be very hard. I have put alot of time and effort into training my dog - we have been attending formal training sessions since she was 3 months old and I plan on continuing for quite a while. She is a great dog and is great with the kids, but she now outweighs 3 of my 4 kids and can knock them down in an instant. I cannot leave her unsupervised to play with them, and I am constantly "reviewing" the rule with the kids. The number one reason that an OES is given up and winds up in rescue is because of problems with kids - usually because they are knocking down toddlers.

So, to answer your question - yes, they are good with kids but alot of time and effort needs to be put into the relationship in order for it to work and it is usually not recommended to get an OES when you have toddlers in the house. If you really want an OES I would wait until your youngest in a little older. Good Luck.
