TREATS for an OES on a strict diet!!!!

Chelsea has suffered Bloat in the past, and was put on a strict diet of NO snacks or treats. About a month ago I had called the vet for mom and asked if there was anything Chelsea could have as a snack/treat where she wouldn't vomit. Also, she had quite a bit of a weight problem (very overweight) before she was rescued and adopted out to us.

The vet told us that we could try to give her a no fat snack from PETCO. It just so happens that it's at the open bar (the one you buy by the pound), so we tried it out.

These snacks are in the shape of a pretzel and smell like animal crackers. Chelsea was given a couple over a three day period with NO problems whatsoever, and she seems to absolutely love them.

A girlfriend of mine also has an OES with the same problem. I told her about the snacks, and so far my girlfriend hasn't had a problem either.

I just wanted to mention this in case anyone has an OES out there with Strict Diet issues. It's a great way to offer a snack every now and then, with no consequences or side effects. The dogs truly do seem to love them. And they are NO FAT!

I didn't think it was fair that Chelsea couldn't nibble on a snack every now and again. What pup doesn't deserve a little treat?

They probably are animal crackers-- did you try one? I bought Clyde and Lucy some dog cookies before and they smelled so humanlike that I tried one. Turns out they were just stale cookies!
In Traverse City there's a gourmet dog bakery, lots of great looking stuff. I'm pretty sure no low cal things :(
I have an extremly overwight dog...and we have been feeding her carrots for treats and she loves them! Our OES loves them too! Also green peppers. It's worth a shot!
My pooches love carrots, too. Just remember that they do have a lot of sugar in them, so the calories are there, still.
And green peppers have a lot of sugar too...

Almost no calories though-- a whole green pepper is only about 40 calories-- they're all water!
That's true. Actually, when I finished writing that I pressed submit and then thought, well actually, green peppers don't have nearly as much as red peppers do, but I was too lazy to retract my statement!
My overweight Layla and cookie crazy Sophie have been brainwashed into thinking Ice Cubes are cookies! LOL.
Whenever I want to get them into their crates/bedroom, I say Ice Cookies! and off they run so excited that the word Cookie is included in the name that they seem to be oblivious to the fact that its just a hunk of ice.

Has me laughing every time as they crunch and chew away at the ice.
