Need a visual aid, can someone post a picture of this?

This is going to seem like a really odd request but I'm looking for, uh, butt shots of sheepies that have at least 8 inches of coat or more to see how the hair on the rear is shaped.

Clyde's hair is getting so long, it's starting to kind of look like a shelf over his backside but I'm a little afraid to have too much cut off. I don't want him to look unbalanced. I have a clear idea of what I think it should look like and I'm pretty sure my groomer will have some advice but before I take him in, I was hoping others could share some pics with me so that I might have a visual aid to take with me. I always feel better knowing the groomer "gets" what I'm trying to tell her!

Any help would be appreciated and I'd be just as happy with a pic from the internet if anyone sees one. I did a couple of quick searches and really didn't find anything that clearly showed the backside!

Thanks!
Jill

If you click the little camera to access the photos I've uploaded there are a few showdog butt pics. :)
Thanks, Stacey. I guess my question is, how does the teasing of the hair affect the cut? I have a hard time differentiating where the longer hair higher up on the backside starts. If it fell down, would it also have the "shelf" look?

Lol. In looking at Clyde's butt, then that picture, boy does Clyde's butt need a trim! He's starting to look more like a sheep than a sheepdog.
No I don't think if it is trimmed the way I have seen it trimmed, and have had Sky's trimmed for me (too chicken to do it myself). I have had two different breeders trim Sky on separate occasions for show. They each did it a little differently, but still similar.
I prefer the more natural shaggy look, with thinning shears, but it is trimmed from just above the tail on an angle down, almost a flat angle, with the shortest area being around the bum. Sky has a fairly coarse topcoat, and a very thick undercoat, so I didn't have to do any teasing of her backside at all, no hairspray either. When it is trimmed a certain way it tends to poof out on it's own.
Most of the people at shows that I've been watching have lifted the coat in a level with their fingers and snipped off bits here and there along the topline to accentuate as well.
I think the main difference is that some people trim immediately before a show to show very clearly the grooming job, and some trim it a couple or three weeks ahead of time to let it get "shaggy" again a bit.
The only way I can describe the angle though is to put your hand flat on the dog's tail area and angle it down so that the angle of the cut and the approximate position of the feet when stacked kind of match up?
I don;t know if I'm making any sense, and I don't know if what I'm telling you is even close to correct...lol.... I'm just trying to describe what I've seen.
I really hope someone else can give a better description for both our sakes! LOL
Sorry. Can't help you....damn tail is in the way :) ...Does a good job of hiding the ...hmmm....., though, and I do trim the underneath of the tail so it doesn't get dirty.
Just another butt angle
Last time, it was "girl parts." http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=5281. Now butts and the . . . hmmm. . . . Poor sheepies have no privacy. 8O

Ooh, those are good! Thanks, everybody!
Don't forget to post pics of Clyde's butt when you get him trimmed. :D
I'm gonna tell you Clyde that you want to see his butt, Tammy...

Lol (at myself). I will. Hopefully it'll turn out well!
It's not for me....it's for Genevieve! She's been secretly harboring a crush on him for months now!

I hope it turns out well, too! :D
Well, I can find the answers to ANY questions on this board! I posted on the "Medical and Nutrition" sight of Tux's recent problem with impacted anal glands! My vet told me that all his long hair got caught up inside him and the "poop" was all tangled and he could not push it out :!: (absolutely--there is just no privacy for these sheepies!) Anyway, I have tried before to tell my groomer that the showdogs are cut short in the back around that area... She kept telling me she thought that would look funny. Obviously, we do not live in an area surrounded with sheepies! In fact, Tux is the only sheepie she does. Well, now I know why it must be cut short--and I will insist the next time! I came to this board for help(again--as I have MANY times) to request a "butt shot"! (this is the first time I needed help in this particular area!) Sure did not expect to find that! And, here it was! Great! Thanks again.....of course, after the vet was finished with Tux--we won't have to worry about cutting short in quite some time! It will be MONTHS before it gets in the way again!!!
Lol. His butt hair was crazy long so that was why I asked too! I never realized that could affect the anal glands-- thanks for sharing.

I never did remember to post a picture of how we ending up trimming Clyde after all the buttshot advice. The groomer cut him a little uneven after I cut him (go figure!) so I have to thin out his legs a bit to better match the short butt!

Have fun reading the site!

well, since this topic is still active, I thought I would share this picture of chummie's butt. The side contour is not on purpose -- she was shaved due to hotspots this summer. Sassy!

Thanks so much for the great pics of the "butt cut"!! I have printed & it will be going to the groomer! That last pic (the one with the side contours!) will really be helpful. The side cut out (although not done on purpose) actually shows the difference in the length on the sides and the back :!: This is great!!! Right now--I think Tux is actually enjoying the cool breeze from his shave!!! Silly boy!!
