Bentley's going to the groomer today

Since he still thinks brushing is a game, I'm temporarily giving up and taking him in for a bath, nail trim, brush, and shaving of the genital area and anything else they can do to him.

Any bets on whether or not he is asked not to return, LOL!?!?

Jil-

I bet he'll be good :D Luke is horrible for me but every groomer he's been to told me he was so nice on the table  I guess he knows I'm a pushover
It's true, most dogs that are little devils for the owner, will be the sweetest dogs once on the table.
I heard time and time again, good luck, he's a pain in the butt. But I could do anything with the dogs.
The only time I would refuse to do a dog is if they tried to bite. Rowdy pups were the norm, but like I always told clients, my hands are my livelihood, if a dog bites my hand (which is where most groomers will get bitten) severely enough I may never be able to groom again. Most people could relate to that and understood.
Hopefully he will do well today and you will get a good report when you pick him up.
Yeah, well, biting is his thing with the brush. Not hard, but it's biting just the same. I certainly wouldn't blame a groomer for refusing to work on a biting dog. Heck, I don't want to work on a biting dog! I'm just hoping that he won't be such a pill for someone else.

(It is getting better . . . .)
He might be better with the groomer though. He's got that comfort level with you where he knows how he far he can go-- he didn't have that with me so I think that's why he let me brush him that one day! I bet he'll do great and it'll be a huge load off your mind.

Oddly, sometimes they act the opposite when they go. Clyde's great for me to wash and brush him but the first time I picked him at the groomer (with adult coat) the groomer, looked all frazzled and said, that one's a handful!
Why not suggest the groomer put a muzzle on the dog. Maggie's first trip to the groomer after I gave up trying to get her dematted, was quite stressful. She spent a total of 6 hours removing the mats. Maggie had no problem with the soft nylon muzzle and it kept her from trying to nip the brush and the groomer.
Hi Jil,

I bet he will be well behaved. Look how great he was at the Sheepiefest! :D
When they are out of their comfort zone it is always (or it seems) better.

I took Mollie to have her nails cut at Petco and I told the groomer that she might not like it. With me, she didn't want me touching her paws. Well, she made a liar out of me, and just stayed there, looking straight ahead. She didn't even glance down to see what she was doing to her paws.

Good Luck,

Karen
Speaking of Bentley, I wonder what happened to Uncle Pete? He seems to have disappeared. I hope he still reads the forum so he knows what an amazing job Jil has done with him. Uncle Pete, if you're out there Bentley looks wonderful and was GREAT at the Sheepifest :D
Jil,
I'm sure Bentley will be fine. Barney the first couple of times at the groomers decided to pee on himself and the groomers at least 3 times per session, so they kept having to re wash him! He's getting better now, but despite all that they still let him come!
Oh, and he likes to bite at the brush too...
GoodLuck Jil, I know they will love him as much as I do!
OMG - he looks Fan-Tas-Tic!!!

He was a pill . . . very aggressive they said . . . he didn't bite at the brush ('cause he was muzzled, LOL!) but he used those long legs of his to bounce and push and be generally obnoxious. They said he's too smart for his own good.

The most amazing part is that it was only $48. $48! Best darned $48 I ever spent - maybe even better than that $100 to have the guy take out the old bathroom floor tiles.

Now, I must find my camera.

Hey - he's plum wore out - he's stretched out on the floor. Do you think I could take him to the groomers EVERY day?? :P
What groomer did you take him to that was so reasonable, price wise?
Groomingdales in Plymouth. I got their name from my vet, the owner used to work there a long time ago.

He's so funny now - he's prancing around the back yard as if he doesn't want to get dirty.

And he's SO tired that he barely put up a fight to chase squirrels on our walk.

Did you know they're WHITE and grey, ha ha ha?!?!

Oh, the UPS guy just left us a package, I'll bet it's the SANTA SUIT! Now's my chance . . . .

Isn't he cute!

I'll bet it was water...lol

Just kidding, he looks so good! He's got that soft, velvety look-- I'll bet you can't stop petting him!
Ha HA ha.

:P
Handsome, handsome !

This could be the start of a beautiful relationship.
Bet the groomer enjoyed working with him,
he's a cool guy that Bentley......
Betnley looks great! And what is that expression in the second pic? Almost made me fall out of my chair, too funny!
Well, that would be the "what, what'd I do?" expression - I see it all the time.

It's also the "whatcha talkin' 'bout Willis" look.

"Whadda ya mean, I wasn't supposed to eat your toothbrush?"

"I don't think sitting is the appropriate action for this situation."

"Calvie wanted me to put his head in my mouth."

Hey, Zahra, they actually talked about the next time he gets groomed, so I guess he IS a cool guy. Opinionated, but very cool!
He looks wonderful. She did a great job.
Love the santa suit.
Aw, Jil, Bentley's GORGEOUS!!!! What a difference from the matted mess he was when you first got him. And what a bargain! You've found a find, friend!!

The Santa suit is hilarious! Could just see Drez wearing it - NOT! She'd have it off in a second!

He's charming, knew they would fall in love with him! 8)

Bogart has been great for the groomer, but at one time
did not like the hairdryer.
He has received great reviews the last 4 times at the groomer.
He loves going and they love him!

As Bentley gets to know her he won't want to leave.
I now have to pry Bogart out of the groomers and
the vet.

Boy, I'm blessed. My last sheepie wouldn't go into
the vets building---loved it once he was in the examining room.
He was first out the door after the exam!!!!!!!!!!
oh he looks so good! makes me want to get walter a haircut!
and i love the santa suit, where did you get it?
Heather, the santa suit came from www.jbpet.com

They've got lots of toys at good prices, including the Christmas iQube and other stuff like that. Bentley really likes toys with balls inside and I got him a few more along with the santa suit.

I may make the groomer a monthly thing, mostly because he was so quiet last night, LOL!

Zahra, she said he hated the dryer and that was the worst part, which shocked me. I figured all the rest would be the worst part.

I got a muzzle with my JB Pet order and I think I'll try it tonight and see if I can brush him myself. So if you hear a shout, you know I accomplished my task.

I'll have to call and ask what they used to get him so white. I'm sure water was involved . . . .

Or (::chomp::) Bentley accomplished his....

. . . .

Jil,

We practice brushing at home. I have a high powered treat in
my left hand, and brush with my right. No chopping, he gets a
random treat. Now he waits for the brushing and gets
a jackpot of treats at the end. So far, no muzzle-
but my cheat (opps, treat) to win is so far working.
I desensitized him to the dryer by running mine at home.
He has gone to this wonderful groomer since 10 weeks old.

Good luck with Bentley, he really is a treasure!! Love his
eyes , and his cute pose for picture no 2.
How tall is he and what does he weigh? He looks like a friend
of mine's sheepie Casper (years ago)
I've tried the treat thing, it just spazs him out, especially if Kayli discovers we have food. Then Bentley just gets nasty about the whole thing. He's such a squirmy bugger, most of the time I'm just not fast enough to keep the treat away from him. He also positions himself so his body is away from me, but his mouth isn't and if I get up to walk away he jumps up on me from behind.

At least I'm getting a workout . . . although my blood pressure is probably sky high by now.

We'll get there eventually. I've even got a script for valium from the vet - her idea, not mine - but I'm not that desperate . . . yet. I was against teh muzzle, too, but his hair isn't getting any shorter and it's quickly getting to the point where daily brushing is in order.

Boo is 32" at the shoulder and weighs 78 pounds.

When he's good he's very very good and when he's bad . . . .
omg hes a giant !

einy only just reaches 22" at the shoulder and weighs 53pounds

my house would be destroyed if einy was that big

Wow, he's tall !! But he really is a handsome guy!

If the treat scene is a not an option, how about trying
Rescue remedy. Its worth a try before the Valium...
that might make him to groggy....
Tried it, made no difference what so ever. He's a stubborn bugger, that one!

He's just too smart, in addition to being good looking
Can I give the suggestion that I give for all your other projects?

Sledgehammer?
I think that would do the trick!
So THAT'S why I still haven't taken the sledgehammer down to the basement!!!

I'll be back in a minute with an update . . . .

Hi Jil,

He looks so handsome! :) Is he as soft as he looks in the picture?

Ever since Beau got his fur all shaved off, he's been a brat! I don't know what's worse: putting up with getting all the matts out or putting up with his bad behavior. I think he has too much energy now that he has all the hair gone.
Bentley looks Great! :) I never thought of putting a muzzle on him when I tried to brush him but I don't think it would of made any difference since his legs were all over the place - maybe he was trying out a new dance. Glad to hear he's doing great and having fun. :)

Uncle Pete :)
Wow, Jil - he looks fanatastic!! And what a bargin!! :D

Please do let us know what they used to get him so white - in addition to the water! :D :D I'm in desperate need a good shampoo. I'm fighting red clay mud stains.
I thought the Valium was for you, Jil.

How was he for your nightly grooming?
Yes, he is VERY soft and fluffy too! He's still prancing around the house.

I haven't had a chance to call the groomers yet, but I'll try tomorrow. I'll tell them how impressed everyone is with him, LOL.

Nightly grooming . . . you mean the nightly wrestling matches? Seriously, some days I can get most of a back leg or maybe his upper body, but that's about it. Forget the paws or head entirely. Well, sometimes he'll "allow" the top of the head.

I haven't tried the valium yet, but I did try the muzzle last night. I wish I had a camera! His teeth may have been out of commission, but I'll bet he looked just like a bucking bronco from a distance! Then he figured out he could still jump on me so I walked away and that stopped that behavior.

The funny thing was that when I took off the muzzle he was calm for the rest of the night and he's been calm so far tonight too.

We'll get there . . . eventually.
Maybe it's starting to sink in, he seems so much better behaved than he was :D Lots of time and patience....
Ha, someone should tell my mom I'm being patient . . . she'd never believe it!
Hi Jill!!

Your last comment made me this of this line..."I wanted to be a doctor oce, but I didn't have the patients".
<<waits for groans

Wow!! Is Bentley a good looking boy!!! Those photos are priceless..his expressions!! Love that Santa suit..now you must promise you will get dressed up as an elf or perhaps Mrs Paws?

Then again, I think an angel would be perfect for you as all you had done for Drezzie, and now Kaylie and Bentley.

Marianne and the boys
Marianne, I know you meant to say Belle, not Drezzie, but it's odd, I was thinking of Drezzie when I was reading that, so it didn't even click!

I like the elf idea! Mom would say I'm no angel, either, LOL, but I will take the compliment and run with it. There are definitely days when I need the pat on the back. :?

Boo was good yesterday! I muzzled him and tried brushing again. I limited myself to 5 minutes this time and he was still Pony Boy, but at least he let me put the muzzle on and I managed to get a little bit more of his front legs.

I think Holly's right, it's starting to sink in and I actually think the muzzle is making an impression.

Kayli got some Jillie time of her own and she liked that and Boo didn't even bark once. I'm a little worried about her, she's still chewing and now I think it's stress. I think I'll try the Rescue Remedy on her tonight.
:clappurple: :bdcake: :clappurple: Bentley!

Okay, I know it's not his birthday...hey, we need a treat icon
