Stuart..our new family member

Well sitting with my son one night we heard a dreadful meeeeowww as one of the cats came through the cat door. I instantly told my son.."that's a prey cry", "quick!!!!". He raced down the stairs and Paris the beautiful Russian Blue cat had caught his first mouse. Seeing my son, he dropped it and Todd instantly picked it up.

The little thing didn't appear to be injured but must have had a terrible scare. I had just washed out my son's 25 gallon fish tank and so "Stuart" was placed there to recouperate for the night. Timothy Hay, which is rather expensive and used sparingly in the rabbit area was placed thickly at the bottom. Food and shelter were gathered up. Water dish too.

A week later, Stuart is still with us living the life of luxury. Do other people do this? I'm waiting for my son to come back from out of town so we can release Stuart back to the wild..maybe he'll tell his family about his wonderful vacation.

HAHAHAHAHAH LOL!!!!!!!!!!! Oh Marianne, you are too precious!!!!!!! I always thought I was an animal lover but I guess I draw the line at mice!!!!!! I'd a escorted him out the door not provided a European vacation!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope Stuart enjoys his holiday and has a great tale to tell when he returns home :D
Growing up we rescued cats, dogs, ducks, turtles, tadpoles and frogs, baby birds, bunnies and a squirrel.
They were all wonderful lessons in learning to care for Gods creatures.
P.S. The tadpoles weren't really a rescue but, they were qute a lesson.
Never leave the lid off the tank after they get their legs or you will be rescuing frogs!

No, only glorious rescue angels do! :clappurple:

You have an amazingly big heart and find fun in such unusual places. It is a treat to read your stories.
I found a mouse in my garage last year and the girls next door took it and kept it as a pet for a year before it died.

They put Scabbers in an old aquarium and got him a wheel; that mouse would go so fast on that wheel that he'd fly off and slam into the wall and then do it all over again.
Well, I have never rescued a mouse, but we have had some rather interesting rescues. We have raised a deer, a blackbird, a rabbit, turtles, frogs, there are probably a few more I can't remember. I have two boys, so as they were growing up, I never knew what might come in the door next.
hilarious, I gotta tell ya...I'm so terrifed of disease that rodents carry, I couldn't do it. I don't even like the cats killing them, but they have fun, and we have a real problem of moles in our backyard (behind our fence)...we have a open field as well.

You should put your little stories together and make a book of their adventures.
Well we almost kept a field mouse that got into the house when I was younger. I opened a drawer in the kitchen and it was suck in the glue traps. I felt so bad, especially when he looked at me with those little black eyes. I got him out and took him a few blocks away and released him into the wood. Mom wouldn't let me keep him. She wanted him dead.

We had rats at our old house. I had never seen a rat until I moved to CA.
The had been getting into our garage and attic. I went out in the garage to do laundry. One ran into the house and Harley cornered it in the kitchen. I was able to get it with the broom and direct him towards the backdoor. I should have killed him or let Harley do it. Those darn rodents ate all my Christmas decoration... Clothes... all sorts of things I had stored in the garage.
While it's true they are not the more endearing critters to have around..one on one..when you see they are in trouble ..think you can't help but want to "save" it.

Wait until I find the time to post the lenghty story of my sisters rescue and the hundreds of dollars she spent at the vet for surgery for her rodent! You guys will die laughing!! Sweetie pie..what she named it..even has a custom made sweater so as the stitches are protected.
