Stripping out Undercoat

Howdy all
I was told by someone that you could strip out a sheepies undercoat and leave them with a full looking coat on top. I was wanting to do this with ours as it gets to sweltering temperatures in summer in Australia and this would be a good tradeoff with not having to clip her off each summer.

Does anyone know how to do this and would it be an uncomfortable process for the sheepie in question??

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Cheers Kathy

I had always read not to cut the under coat, because it never grew that long and it was water resistant, and once you cut it it looses some of that resistance. this may or may not be the case, but it is what I read
