Genetic testing for Hip Dysplasia

I forgot to mention that at the Centennial they were pulling blood from all willing OES for genetic testing. They are attempting to do a DNA map to see which gene is responsible for Hip Dysplasia. OES will be the second breed to have this mapping done, I believe Portugese Water Dogs were the first. They are using dogs with smaller gene pools to help narrow the field.
They are requesting 3 generation pedigrees from all dogs tested to help with the lineage. Even little Toby got to contribute!

Hope I got all the info for this correct. If not, someone correct me.

Too bad I could not be there. I wonder if it is still possible to give them some samples.

I have a brother and a sister, both with HD and I have the pedigrees.

I would be willing to help out in any way I can.

Have a nice night,

Eric
I'll get the name of the woman coordinating. There was a lot of stressing on dogs of the same lineage getting tested so they could see family markers and help match the stuff up. Especially with your dogs having the 'disease' and being siblings it may very well help!
It's great news... there are so many more things I hope the breed clubs do the same testing for, like epilepsy, neurological diseases, and autoimmune diseases.
Were they JUST testing for HD or other genetics as well? If so...perhaps The Gooch should send some blood! :? See how his genetics pair up with his family.
AT this point they're just mapping for HD. It would definitely be good for Gucci to send some because that would make 4 dogs out of the litter to get tested and would definitely help! You would need Murphy's AKC reg and a 3 generation pedigree for him to participate and any help should be welcomed.

Even if Murphy doesn't have the requirements to participate Gucci would still need someone to hold his paw while he gives. :D
Contact is Cass Arble brightcut@mindspring.com

She should be able to tell you what all needs to be done and where to send it to.
I will send Cass off a note! :D

As for Murphy...he unfortunately comes without a lot of background! So he can just be cute and supportive. The Gooch has NO PROBLEM going to the vet for anything! He sits at the door and plays "Walmart Greeter" and then proceeds to love up the vet...she keeps threatening to steal him! 8O He actually cries when she LEAVES the room for something, not the opposite of most NORMAL animals...

So...The Gooch will probably be happy to have to go to the vet! I'll keep you posted!
