SheepieFest! 2005 report

I can't believe I'm the first to post. But if everyone was as tired as I was last night I will understand. We had a great time and a great day yesterday in northeastern Illinois. The weather was beautiful (until about 3:30 when a massive storm moved in but the picnic was over) and I lost count of how many people/sheepies were there. Lots from this board: the Michigan Jil(l)s with Bentley and Clyde, Holly (sans any of her 4 dogs), Karen with Beau (all 4 of these ladies are from MI), Deborah with Pirate and Kiera, me (with no dog), Winston's dad/brother/mom (Jim/Keith/I'm so sorry I forget your name but I'm thinking Nancy), Amanda and Melissa with Izzie, and a load of other people I didn't know but got to know yesterday. The award for the biggest coincidence went to the TWO Izzies. Yes, 2 baby girls (4 and 5 months), BOTH named Izzie (short for Isabella) and with very similar markings!

Everyone (uprights and puppers) was very well-behaved! We had tons of food and Deborah's husband Tony was grill master. He did a fine job. Lots of people took pictures and I'm sure the pictures will be up ASAP!!!!

Many thanks to Deborah for organizing the second annual SheepieFest. I'm amazed at the amount of work that went into this and Deborah earns a well-deserved round of applause! :clappurple:

I hope that even more people come next year. But we'll definitely need a panoramic camera to get the "group shot!"

(bowing) Thank you, thank you, thank you!

It was great. It exceeded my imagination. I can't tell you how tired I am today. I'll give you some very cool facts, and general comments, but will have to write more later.

We had 37 uprights, 22 sheepies and 2 non sheepdogs. I think we went through about a million tons of hot dogs and hamburgers, not to mention all the other food that was consumed.

The weather was absoulutely perfect. Upper 70's and a bit cloudy. Then right after we all left and got on the road, the skies opened up and poured. But it waited for us to have our party and clean up first. I personally believe all our dogs at the bridge were watching out for us!

I was delighted to meet so many wonderful people, and honored that the "gals" from Michigan came. We also had a delightful couple from Missiouri.

Saturday night, Tony and I had the pleasure of having dinner with Karen Johns (Beau's mom) from Michigan. Karen, you're adorable and we enjoyed spending time with you.

We have an official name for our mascot. Its (drum roll please!) Rupert! Nancy Abrahovitz (sp?) from Chicago named him.

I've been very negligent at work the last week, and since I will be off tomorrow for the Jewish New Year (L'shona tovah to all it applies to) I better get some work done.

But I will write more later.

Again, special thanks for Auntie Paula for all of her hard work and wonderful prizes that she made and donated. Pirate, Keira and I love you to bits!

And thanks to everyone who made it, and to everyone who wanted to come, but couldn't, I guess we'll just have to do this again next year!!!!

xoxoxo Deborah
Someone just sent me a group picture from SheepieFest! This was taken late in the day, and several people (and dogs) had already left.

As more pictures come in, I'll post them to the photobucket sight.

Deborah,

Can't thank you enough for hosting this event. :D We greatly appreicated all the time and effort that you and Kathy and Tony put into it.

Kathy, thank you for the grooming tips and training tips. I'm going to buy the cheese strips this week and try that.

Auntie Paula, Beau says hi and thank you for watching him.

Aunt Toni, Beau can't wait for the pictures to be developed and thanks for watching him.

We got home around 9:45 p.m. EST and Beau just laid down on the kitchen floor and fell asleep. He had such a big day.

We certainly enjoyed meeting everyone and watching Yoda and Cody in the agility trails. The weather was great and the company of sheepie people was even better.

Thanks again for a great Sheepiefest!!!!
Wanted so much to be there but just couldn't work it out. Sounds like a wonderful time. Maybe next time. Looking forward to seeing more pics.
Thank you Deborah and Paula --

we got there quite late, but better late than never! We really enjoyed meeting the other uprights and their fine friends. I look forward to next year so I can bulletproof my plan to be there for the whole day!

Thanks again,

Michelle
i wish we couldve stuck around longer, it was very nice to see everyone i met last year and meet new people/sheepies!

walter would also like to formally apologize (especially to bentley and clyde) for being so crabby!

i also have some pictures i will post sometime in the next few days
Heather, it was nice that you could come if only for a short while. I'm sure you hear this all the time, but you look exactly like your mom!

And Walter was very well behaved. He's growing up.
Wow 22 sheepies is a lot of sheepies 8O
I wish we could have a Sheepiefest here on the west coast.
Looks like a great time.
What a great group picture. Let me guess that HUGE sheepie with his back to the camera is Bentley... Too Funny!
Elissa
I think it's safe to say a great time was had by all :) I didn't get back until almost 1am but well worth it! Thanks to Deborah and Paula for making everyone feel so welcome and for all their hard work. I was impressed how well all the dogs were groomed, and all the owners were so friendly. And thanks to the Jill's for meeting up with me in Kalamazoo, can't wait for the next trip :D Well, I'm going to take a nap now :D
What a great looking group! I'm so jealous! Glad to hear that you had such a great day.
Now, how did you know that was Bentley, Elissa?

He kept wanting to shake my hand, something I haven't taught him, and e did not want to look at the cameras. What a goofball.

Thanks Deb & Paula for hosting a great event!

Oh, and Bentley says "bring it on Walter!" :)
Lol. Clyde and I just woke up about an hour ago-- and he seemed annoyed that I even suggested that he do so. He's beat! We had a great time. It was so neat to see so many OES in one place. Clyde made some new friends and developed a huge crush on 4 month old Izzy. It wasn't 5 sheepies in a van but it was a fun trip!

I've got lots of pictures to post. I've asked Ron to create us a Sheepiefest area in the events section of the gallery so we can all post there.

Jill
Ron jumped to it and set it up for us! I've posted the group picture there. When I get home and can really study the picture, I'll post names.

Thanks Ron! :D
Thanks everyone for such a great picnic. Izzie, Melissa and I had a wonderful time.

I have submitted the few pictures I took for approval. There will be one each of the two Izzie's...you can compare and see if they are really the same pup or not.

Thanks Deborah and Paula for all the hard work!!

Amanda
It was so great to meet the three of you lovely gals! And your salsa and potato salad were delicious! Hope we see you next year! Mark Oct. 1st, 2006 on your calender. Izzi will be a big girl then!
So the date is set for next year??? Deborah, you are tooooo organized. Note to all who didn't attend: mark your calendars now. I actually had an idea this morning for a game for next year. But now I can't remember it.
The pics are up now for anyone who couldn't be there. I didn't realize I took so many pictures!
It is so fantastic that everything worked out (weather especially!) and you all had so much fun! :D

The Gooch and Murph will not take any answer but YES to next year! It wil be a long drive for us...but we want to meet all of you so bad and it was just too bad we couldn't make it this year!

But, the fundraiser that we stayed home for raised $5225 for the 20 Louisanna doggies that BARK brought back to Ottawa! So it wasn't all for nothing! All the pups are in foster homes and getting some well deserved loving! The Gooch and Murph were big hits yesterday at the Bark in the Park, but they were very disappointed that they were the only sheepies! So they made me promise to take them to Sheepiefest3!

Congrats Deb! Sounds like all your hard work paid off and there are alot of happy, sleepy sheepies today!
SheepieFest was wonderful!
Thank you very much for all the hard work to Deb and Paula. It was truly a success. The sheepies were beautiful. Let's see all I can remember as far as sheepie names were, Oliver and Phonzie, Johnny (what a big cutie),
Izzy, Pirate and Keira, Winston, Walter, Oscar, Bentley, Clyde, Beau and Mollie, Wabash and ?. That's all I can remember. And as far as the sheepie people I can't remember. It was too many names to remember.
But we all had soooooooo much fun. :D Telling sheppie stories about our sheepies was fun because it seems like they all act and do the same things. I guess sheepies all have the same traits. I know Winston loved meeting all the other sheepies. Today he is very tired and has been sleeping most of the day. He doesn't even want to play. It was fun seeing them all interact with each other. And what good manners they all had.
It was incredible. You didn't even hear hardly any barking. All the sheepies were just so happy and friendly with each other and the sheepie people. I had to pet each and every sheepie that I met. And I couldn't resist picking up Izzy just to remember what it is like to hold a sheepie puppy in my arms. The puppy cut on some of the sheepies was wonderful. The groomer did a wonderful job on their haircuts. All the sheepies were so wonderfully groomed. I can see we all have good luck with our groomers.
Thanks again Deb and Paula :!:
I forgot to tell everyone that my pictures are posted under the SheepieFest Chicago, 2005 in the picture gallery. I hope you can all help me with faces and names.

Jil,
I just looked for the Horse that was pretending to be a Sheepdog....lol
Knowing how big he is and hearing Bentley stories there was no way it could have been any other dog.
Elissa
What a great day! Johnny and Oliver (the Sheepie wannabe) had a great time. So did their uprights.
Many thanks to Deb for putting on this event two years in a row!!
The dogs had a good time, the uprights had a good time, the food was delectible, the weather was outstanding. THIS will be a hard act to follow.
sounds like you had an awsome time i will have to steal all your ideas for sheepfest uk 2006 maybe we will hold in on the same weekend

international sheepieing woo hoo

love and hugs zoe and einy
If you haven't looked at the pics yet, GO OVER THERE! There are 3 pages. Thanks to all the photogs--Butters, SheepALot, Jeeperz, Killrprncss, Beau and Mollie. You all did a great job!
I'm going to get my pics developed today. So, I should have them up within the next 24 hours.

I'm really excited about seeing them.

I was able to send NEOESR a check from profits of the treat bags. I still have some left, and would love to send them another check. So, if you're interested in buying one, email me.

Deborah
(GO WHITE SOX!)
I've posted a few more pics at:

http://photobucket.com/albums/y181/debcram/SheepieFest/

The process is going very slowly, as the disk I got from Walgreens has all of the pictures upside down and I have to fix each one, and try and remember everyone's name

I promise to finish posting them this weekend...and I will get them up on Ron's picture site too.
