strange noise had me running or do oess howl?

i was in the yard this morning when i heard a strange noise sounded like einy so off to the house i ran

he was in the house on his own and i was scared that he had hurt himself
so i ran to the house and as i got closer i could see einy howling in the kitchen he sounded so miserable

do they normally howl?

i know he has really bad separation issues but i was only in the yard about 3o metres away

but on a better note i have been unable to get him to go for a walk for about 8 weeks and he managed two this week so proud of him were finally getting there only little walks but a walk!!

I've only heard The Gooch do that awful noise once! It was the first week we had him and hadn't figured out that he was deaf yet. I came home from work and had had him in a room with all his "stuff" he was leaned up against the wall screaming! Needless to say he never stayed in that room again and I have never heard it again! I think that now that I understand that he cannot hear and relies on his other senses he always needs to be around familar surroundings. He now happily stays home in the basement area where he always plays and watches TV with us...we've never had a problem! :D

I feel for you...that really is not something I ever want to hear again! Sheepies can sure be dramatic! 8O
Carl howls when my husband plays the drums. It's very funny. I'm not sure if he doesn't like it or he thinks he's playing along.
One of my dogs howls quite often....anytime she is alone in a room, or outside or whatever...I have heard Bosley chime in with her a couple of time. I'm not sure if he is showing support or what....A very eerie sound I must say.
Mine don't, but my first oes did, we used to call it "singing" ...lol....
Have any of you seen the movie Because of Winn-Dixie? It's a horrible movie, but the dog is cute...lol... and howls.
My first sheepdog Trouble and my mom's sheepdog Libby howled every Saturday at noon when the area of Oklahoma we lived in tested their tornado sirens. The siren would be long silent but the girls would continue to howl over and over again, one would howl and as the other got to the end of their howl then the other would start. It was rather comical.
So far, no howling from Pepsi. Peanut & Harley howl whenever they hear the sirens from an ambulance or fire truck. They try to immitate the siren noise. Peanut does a better job. The police have a different siren so they don't howl with that. They rarely hear the siren. So it rarely happens. Harley actually just started doing this. My husband had never heard him. Then a couple of weeks ago he heard this strange noise and there was Harley outside at 5 am howling 8O for no apparent reason.
I wouldn't be surprised if Pepsi learned how.
Elissa
Mitch howls.
A very long eerie call of the wild howl. All he needs is a full moon behind him and he would feel right at home.

First time he howled was about 3 am one morning.I woke up with such a shock my brain was thinking there was a wolf in the back garden.
Benny has been known to howl at an ambulance or two. I think it is the funniest thing. He throws his head back and his bottom lip drops just enough to see his crooked bottom teeth and then he just howls....

It makes me laugh hysterically!!!!
I had several OES and none of them ever howled until these two!
I was so surprised. I thought I had a couple of wolves.
All the same things mentioned in the other posts, being seperated from one another was the first time, then sirens of all types.
When they both get going it is really loud and strange sounding.
I have been working on discouraging it to say the least.
When my Shadow had her first litter of pups, I had to make her go outside the first time. As soon as she was finished she returned to the door, whined a couple times, but before I could get to the door she started howling. It was soooooooooo sad, a new mommy taken away from her babies and you could hear it in her voice.

Well, she was bad enough, then my other 5 OES started in and sounded just as pitiful! They were all mourning with her. It was so funny, and sad, shoot they almost had me in tears too, that I called my sister-in-law to listen to it as I was going to let her back in. Somebody had to hear that serinade besides the neighbors. Since she raised German Shephards, I knew she'd get a kick out of it too.
Merlin howls, he talks, he mumbles. The first time he howled it was because the kids were all making a racket singing with the kareoke machine! We made such a fuss telling him good boy and we howled along with him, he will now howl or talk on command. He is now teaching Avalon that it is ok to howl or 'talk' to mommy. They howl every morning now. We all love the sound...their stump of a tail wiggles when they are howling.

No mine dont howl but they do mumble talk and grown

One day when Frodo was waiting for me to let him out of the patio doors, My husband said "Frodo the kitchen door is open." Frodo turned to walk to the kitchen, as he walked past my husband he looked at him and gave the loudest mumble as he went past. It was just so funny

Chris Frodo and Smeagol
We live close to a fire station. The fire whistle blows every day and trotter lifts his nose to the sky and howls the entire time! He is noise sensitive. My husband plays the guitar and Trotter barks while he is playing. Maybe, he is really singing.
Oh yeah, mine howls too!
I live close to a main road where the fire trucks and ambulances run and he howls everytime. Every Friday, the tornado sirens are tested at noon and he gets after it.
Scared me the first time my first sheepdog howled, as he was laying beside the bed and woke me in the middle of the night, not for sure if it was a bad dream or what?
Harry has a wonderful howl for sirens. Glacier, the Pyr-pyg has learned to howl from Harry. MO and Jack the other two sheepies don't howl...but I think Jack will someday. He's rather vocal....barks, grumbles, growls, whines.
Lennon and Sofa learned to howl from our neighbor's husky. They make a huge production out of it on weekends when I let them out to the yard so we can sleep in late. As soon as they get bored they'll start howling like they were in the greatest suffering, which stops as soon as they hear the door slide an inch.
Mine sound like a pack of wolves when everyone leaves the house. They throw their heads back and howl as long as they can or until we rap on the window so they stop. I'm sure the neighbors wonder....
Bunkie throws her head right back and lets go. She learned this from my sisters dog. SHe also has learned to talk (only when I get on the phone) and stamp her feet for my attention. Its like having a 2 year old in the house. So silly.
Bogart howls. Wow! I was surprised to see this thread. I have never heard of another sheepie howling. He has done it since day 1 for like the first 5 mins in his crate when we leave. I had to record it for my Mom- she couldn't believe it. I hate to laugh when he is miserable in his crate- but his noises are funny!
