How do you guys not have any broken toes?

I always wonder how elderly deal with having (any) big dog in the house that steps on toes.

It's bad enough that my feet already feel swollen, but the top of my foot is always blue/green. Sigh. My husband just tells me I'm a wuss because he never has any battle wounds, lol, but it's not like I can help that I bruise easily!

There isn't much that drive me bonkers about the most loving dog ever, but her love is just SO MUCH ...you know what I mean? ;)

She doesn't even know she does it, but while getting closer to see something, backing up because she's afraid of her new blue water bowl (it's too bright and she thinks it's a small animal), trying to catch a toy, or trying to get close for a hug.... her nail goes straight into the veins of my foot.

Screaming (in pain...not at her) just confuses her. She really has no idea she's on anyone........................................ever. How do we know? Well, hang out with her for a day. ;) You do anything that intrigues her, the rest of the world is blocked out including what she does with her body.

Otherwise, if she's just roaming around, she always avoids us. With the cat, she's the best. I guess she fears the kitty and/or you can't top the lungs of a hurt cat (tail got stepped on). I'm surprised we're not all deaf. ;)

So anyone else get a headache over this?
I feel a little guilty about getting upset because Mr. Joah always says, "it's not liek she knows" ........as he sees steam come out of my ears b/c I've busted another vein in my foot, but I can't help it.

We even keep her nails trimmed and filed nicely with one of those dremmel nail trimmer thingy's (professionally done..not by me).

I guess it could be worse? She could be 100lbs. ;)

I'm withh you on this. I bruise easily too and I always have marks on my feet and hands from Clyde stepping on me-- and he is getting close to 100 pounds. It's true, he has no idea how clumsy he is but it doesn't make it feel any better! At the same time, Lucy goes out of her way not to step on people or objects in her way. That tells me Clyde just has bad manners! ;)
This sounds like my life! I bruise easily (I swear, a feather could bruise me!) and Barney just callumps around, not knowing he's doing anything to hurt me. I have 3 long bruises on my left thigh where 3 days ago he was excited for dinner that I was putting together and he jumped up and kind of hooked on with his nails and just went down (does anyone else's sheepie do this--use their nails almost like fingers?) and it hurt so much! But he had no idea why I was yelling in pain.
Joah, I have no idea what to tell you--maybe put on a bubble wrap suit
That would be SCHWEET if she avoided the feet or things around the house!! Oh, I'm spoiling myself with even the though of this. :D

I guess Yuki goes into the group with bad manners.

I feel so guilty when I do get so upset and scream (at her) because 1) she has no idea what she did and 2) then I get the speech from Mr. Joah and my mom about the baby not needing to hear me scream. I say, Why? Not like the baby won't be deaf anyway from Yuki barking right at my stomach (about what level she is height wise when I'm sitting) when she needs something.

I could use some patience from anyone giving it out ...when I reach that point. ;)

Well, since we've gotten so many gifts from our wedding that were shipped to us, we have our fair share of bubble wrap and packing peanuts...Maybe I can fashion something together...I'll have to go watch reruns of McGuyver to catch up on those skills...
Paking peanuts are one of Clyde's favorite foods!
I HAVE broken my toe on Beaureguard. I should know better than to go barefoot around him. He stops short in front of my while I'm walking and when I took that next step, my little toe hit the back of his foot and jumped out of the socket. OUCH!!
Once in a while may be accidental, but constant staning on your feet is a sign of dominance, and should absolutely not be tolerated from both a physical well being of your and your guests standpoint, as well as a training standpoint.

Give a command, such as "no feet" and removed the paws from your feet. With one of my guys, I simply "stepped" on his foot -- at that time I wasn't into seperate commands for everything so I'd say "No!" and pull my foot out and PLACE it on top of his (NEVER, EVER put any weight on it).

He learned in a day or two, and avoided stepping on my feet, but continued to step on Joan's feet, until she tried the same technique... and then he stopped doing it to her as well.

Just my opinion.
Wow, you have a smart sheepie, Ron. ;)

No, that is actually a good idea. I wouldn't say it was "constant" just EVERY time she gets in a "huh? ba-doh-doh-do-doe" zone. The kind where she is so happy prancing around the house that saying "no foot" and removing her paw would only result in her laughing at us and her thinking we're also in the happy prance mood.

Like, she knows not to jump on us and "No Jump" but instead she jumps right in front of us (since she is not allowed to "Touch" us). Well, by jumping up and down, her front feet will inevitably land on ours. She has no concept of space. If she hurts our hand or steps on our body, all she gets is that we're hurt...and will lay down next to us to slobber us with kisses. Though again, did I mention she laid down ..................on our feet with her nails stuck somewhere between the 1st layer of my skin and the surface. ;)

She also knows "STOP" (where she walks backwards until she bumps into the feet or object behind her .......or the wall). So she then proceeds to "STAY" until we say "Good Girl" (release command)............and then walks up to us to give us kisses (feet where? ...I'll let you guys guess).

I would really believe this was a dominance thing if she "Got it" ....but she doesn't get it. She doesn't do things to outsmart us or "have the last word" ...she does things purely out of love and "accident." ;)
Her bouncing right in front of you totally reminds me of Barney. He knows not to jump on us so he'll do that jumpy, rearing kind of thing and that's when I got the bruises going down my thigh, and when he lands on our feet.
Barney doesn't so much stand on our feet, it is more like they are just in the landing zone.
I guess some dogs are clumsier than others. Sofa steps on us in the morning if she gets on the bed to wake us up... it hurts! She does not do it in any other ocassion, except by accident when she gets too hyper and forgets to look where she's stepping.

It was more constant in the past, so we started yelping like a puppy every time she got close to stepping on us and that helped a lot, she's more careful with us now, but we still get the hard bumps from time to time due overexitement... I just hope I'm never called by social services or I'll have to explain those bruises on Danita.... 8O
I think Harley is worse than Pepsi. Harley will walk right over to me and sit on my feet  Pepsi just steps on mine.
I would say wearing shoes helps.
Elissa :D
Dancer is generally dainty and careful, she gives little butterfly kisses... so cute...lol.... Sky on the other hand is a clydesdale in disguise... she is so rough and tumble, so clumsy.... so I often have bruises on my legs from her nails when she is so excited to see me home from work. It's just part of owning an oes I guess....
How to not have broken toes: I avoided this situation by tucking my toes "under" my feet when the dogs were running past me. When they ran out the door I knew my toes were safe and prayed they'd all missed the tops of my feet. I had more of a problem with mine running into my heels. I constantly reminded them that they already had four feet and didn't need to use mine too.
