Every toy has it's place

I've always said Mallory is a smart puppy. I can usually show her something once or twice and then she does it. Like teaching her to sit took all of 5 minutes, now, one snap of the finger or one click of the clicker and her bottom hits the floor. Such a good puppy.
Well I didn't teach her this, she just did it on her own.
She's a funny pup in the fact she doesn't like the doggie toys laying on the floor. If one toy is on the floor, she will pick it up and put it on our couch. So I was bored the other day and decided to get some toys out and play with Mallory, who was laying on the couch happily playing with one of her many toys already. Just as soon as I tossed a toy to the floor, she would run over, grab it up in her mouth and run to the couch with it. I'd toss another and so on the game continued. She had about 20 of the dog toys on the couch when my husband Tom gave me an odd look and said "HONEY!"
I said "WHAT" we are just playing a game! He said NO LOOK!
That's when I payed attention to what Mallory was doing with the toys I was tossing on the floor. I knew she was putting them on the couch but what I hadn't paid attention to was the fact that each time I tossed a ball she would put it on the right side of the couch and each time I tossed a plushy or rope toy, she would put it on the left side of the couch. She continued seperating the toys like that until the last toy was out of the basket. She had a total of 44 toys on the couch and not one ball lay on the left hand side of the couch. And not one plush or rope toy was on the right. They weren't all spread out over the couch either, just two neat piles of like toys.
Isn't that the weirdest thing?

Too cute. Pretty smart girl. So which pile is her favorite? The balls or toys?
I guess you could say she was herding her toys into the right pile lol

She doesn't have a fave toy. Just as long as it's a toy it's fair game.
That's amazing. How funny. Take a picture!!
I wish I had a dog that would pick toys up off the floor. If I put them away in his toy box, Clyde gets annoyed and starts grabbing them, one by one, and putting them all over the house so he has one handy wherever he goes. Mallory can come clean up at my place anytime!

Yep. Remind me to never let your dog hang out with mine ButtersScotch. I can't imagine what trouble they'd get into together.

When she was a puppy, she had to keep track of ALL of her toys, but now she immediately takes each one out when they're placed in the basket. Each of them gets a certain amount of play time. At least she's fair about it.

That's cool that your dog cleans up after play.
Wonder if there's such a thing as obsessive-compulsive behavior in dogs??

TOO cute!

Chris
I don't think Barney should be allowed to come over and play, either. He doesn't have any cleaning sense in his whole body. His toys are all literally strewn about the house. We've even found his gorilla in the kitchen sink (we were assuming he was shaking his head violently and it flew out of mouth and into the sink)!
LOL Too Funny! Maybe he just wanted his gorilla to get a bath!
Mallory hasn't ever shaken any of her toys (YET) but I could see something like that happening around here as well.
What these sheepies won't do for a laugh!
Bosley has a gorilla, too! Actually, he has two. One "squeals" and one doesn't. The doggie toy basket is filled with toys, until Bosley gets into the room. One by one he shoves his face into the basket, and removes a toy to play with for a few minutes, than leaves it and goes for another one. Like a toddler's toys all over the place. He has a crate of outside toys...frizbees, balls, etc, outside by the back door, and those are found all over the place, too. He is a very gentle chewer, though. We don't even worry when he gets our shoes, as he just chews, and they get wet...no holes or anything. Same with his toys...He still has his baby toys in really good condition. Only one teddy bear lost an arm, but that was while playing tug with one of my sons, so hardly counts.
Wonderful! A great story, Pam!

Clyde's stuff also winds up in crazy places. Peter Panda found his way into the food bowl this morning. I'm pretty sure he didn't crawl in there himself. One night I rolled over and hit a lump that I couldn't push down. Somehow his stuffed tiger got "stuffed" into my pillowcase. Very clever, Clyde.
She's so clever!! Take that Border Collies!!
What a talented dog! My first Toy Poodle knew all of his toys by name.
When I vacuumed I would put all of his toys in his doggie bed. As soon as I was done he would take his toys back out one by one and put them in different spots all over the living room..He was OCD. Each toy had a place. I guess so he could find them easier.

I wish my boys would put their toys away! When its time to vaccuum around here, I pick up all the toys and put them in the toy box, only to turn around to get another armful and they are in the box pulling them out! 8O

Also, the toys move to where ever I am, for instance, I'm sitting at the computer this morning and all the toys have been dropped all around my chair! And they are both sleeping amongst the mess!

I just had a lightbulb moment...maybe I should move the toybox by the chair in the office! It's worth a try!
